Positioning himself only one step ahead of the Princess, he began to lead the way. "Let us hope that your generals are not to occupied with tearing each other's throats out today," he quipped with a grin.

"I understand that your sister and former protégé stand against us," he said in an attempt to start a conversation, though moments after the words passed his lips he knew they were ill-advised. Impetus had no biological brothers but he had adopted plenty in the barracks back when he was a foot soldier. He couldn't imagine fighting a single one of them with intent to kill, unless they had committed some unforgivable crime.

Well fellow Twilight fans, here we go. The Day of Judgement is upon us. Let the glory of Twilight Sparkle be made plain for all to see.

Actually I'm a member of the Night's Watch from A Song of Ice and Fire, but close enough.

Fixit gave an incredulous yet warm laugh. "Upset? I'd be honoured. Your interest in this ol' thing makes it worth my while."

Fixit smiled at the thanks and mumbled that it was no problem, then felt his cheeks flare in a slight blush at the Princess' query.

"Oh, well, um, no. No it doesn't. " He coughed nervously "I can build things but I'm no magician, your majesty. I hope that isn't too much of a disappointment."

Fixit chuckled and shook his head "You misunderstand, your majesty. I ain't lookin' for your approval, though a bit of royal sponsorship wouldn't go amiss. No, I asked simply out o' curiosity. Plus, I wanted to know if you were worthy o' this little invention o' mine."

He turned round to the wagon and reached for the cloth covering the device beneath. He waited a moment to build the tension, and then, with a dramatic flourish, whipped away the scarlet cloth, revealing a spherical contraption. With a hoof he pushed the thing onto his back before depositing it at the base of the throne.

If she examined the thing, the Princess would find it to be a metallic globe of Equestria and the rest of the world, with the seas represented by steel and the landmasses by bronze. About three quarters of the way up the sphere was a smooth bronze band, and attached to that band by metal strips were a brass orb and a silver crescent.

Fixit pushed down a tiny lever, and the orb and the crescent began to slowly rotate around the globe, accompanies by puffs of steam from the orb and the clicking of gears.

"A gift for you, to remind you of the duties you and your sister do for us every day." he said with a smile.

Impetus wandered through the halls of Canterlot Castle, searching for the most important pony in the Empire.

Had he been told ten years ago that he would inhabit these hallowed halls, he would have laughed aloud and denounced the very idea as nonsense. He was hardly among the best military minds of Equestria; if he was, what was he doing scrabbling around in the dirt with a halberd?

Yet here he was, acting as military advisor to Princess Celestia herself. It was all he had ever dreamed. Now all that was left was for the Solar Empire to emerge victorious, a day which Impetus knew was as inevitable as the the dawn.

Of course, unlike the dawn their victory would not come overnight. There was much to be done before victory could be claimed.

Finally, Impetus found her emerging from a chamber, the living embodiment of the sun's radiance, as ever.

"Excuse me, your highness," he said "Might I escort you to the Military Council Chambers?"

If you guys don't like Pinkie better, please vote for Rarity for third place in the World Cup. Right now, she's in the same position Twilight was yesterday, trailing Pinkie by 10+ votes. With your help, we can turn that around once more. And I'm not offering to bribe you, I'm already going to vote for Twilight against Fluttershy in the final.
