Through the unwritten social contract, those offended were able to make it so that most companies are required to offer that box. What started as a simple request of, "Please call me by the name of *name*." turned into company policy because of the social impact it held.

That is just proof of the power such a contract can hold. The fact of the matter is, 99% of EVERYTHING we do falls under the category of "between two or more parties". Exchange of currency for good...
