  1. is it bad to use a reference just to get an idea of how to draw a pose you are trying to draw? I see nothing wrong with it as long as you dont just rip off someones art style and use your own style and only use the reference to get a general idea of how to draw a certain pose etc.

      It's not a bad idea, it's a great idea. I'm always using tons of references for my drawings. :P

      It's just last night I spent about 4 hours trying to get the anatomy right on a pose without references and it still had that "derp" look to it and I could not figure out why lol

      I've used references plenty of times! But if it helps you out, what I decided to do was use multiple references to make one piece. If you just use one-reference, you might as well just be tracing/recoloring. Take a bunch of similar poses, as well as elements of different things you like, and try to combine them into one original piece. :)
