  1. Would anyone be interested if I attempted to rewrite the plot (based on the synopsis) that is done in a way that doesn't require him to be a jerk and have him be way more interesting?

  2. I hope it doesn't happen. Crossovers are sort of boring if you're not a fan of both works. And I am not a fan of Sonic. If I were to watch that cocky hedgehog interact with my beloved ponies I might gnaw my arm off. I'm sorry to everyone that likes the idea, but to me Sonic is just an awful, unbearable character.

But I admit it would be adorable to see Fluttershy play with those Chao things.

Do it with Mario. The series work well with each other in terms of tone and design, we have the Mario and Luigi games to give way more focus on lore and character interactions, and Mario is pretty much universally loved.

  3. Even if Sonic was a top tier franchise, a crossover with MLP just sounds like a terrible idea and the only reason the idea is so persistent is because they both have a fast blue character. There's just better and more interesting crossover ideas

Remember this? This would have been a far better crossover.

  4. If that happens, it will lower both franchises reputations all the way to the bottom of the floor.

Sonic 06, Equestria Girls, IDW Comics, Sonic Boom

How is this a bad idea? Both fandoms eat shit and ask for more. As a marketer, the rivalry with the two fandoms will only drive up attention and curiosity. It would probably have a positive effect on sales.

  5. I meant tell mewhat Ideas that I mentioned would work do you think could work. ;)

Megan? Seriously? It seems pointless now, especially after EQG exists.

The spy episode would work better as a Total Recall parody, especially since it can be a dream sequence if someone wanted to interpret it that way.

  6.

Heh, your attempt at trying to describe how they relate to one another demonstrates exactly what I go through every time I need to pin those two down.  "They're like this, but also kinda like this. And maybe this, too."

I think even if the show decided one day to explicitly define their relationship through some dialogue, I would have trouble accepting it since there are to many instances of it being one thing or another.

I love that one. As soon as it came out I bought it. It confirmed many of my own thoughts on how Twilight was involved in raising Spike, even though it technically isn't canon with what goes on in the TV show. I was surprised however by how often Twilight had to drag hatchling Spike into her classes. It took me back to my days in high school where sometimes students who had babies would do the same thing. It felt like Twilight was some kind of pre-teen mom. :o

In my headcannon, I always imagined Twilight Velvet taking care of Spike while Twilight was attending class, but the comic didn't have Twilight's mom too involved with Spike, either. Same goes for Celestia, save for her initially seeing to his needs immediately following his being hatched.

If you think about his role as an assistant, then the employer-employee relationship makes sense. In fact, every time Twilight asks Spike to take a letter to Celestia it casts him in more of a secretarial role than a friend or family member. And then there's his cooking - he's also the household chef. And maid.

If it weren't for all the scenes where they're shown as very tight and close-knit, employee would actually be the most apt categorization for him.

I would rather that the show have a clear definition on how they see each other rather than it being confusing and complicated. It will allow writers to build on a defined dynamic rather than having it constantly change.

  7. We've seen this come up again and again in discussions and in Q&As. We've seen most show staff suggest they are brother and sister. We've even seen the two Hearthswarming episodes pretty much break the headcanon that they were employer and employee before going to Ponyville.

I mostly have this poll to see what you guys think, as I truly believe most of the fandom wants to consider Spike a member of or extremely close to Twilight's family. This makes me wonder what the show staff is afraid of in regards to confirming it.

  8. Though while I appreciate what they did, season 2 making the friendship lessons an individual journey for all major characters as well as the increased significance of Spike and the CMC (particularly Apple Bloom) lead to the writers starting to focus on their families.

We have seen a great deal of focus on the characters' families with it practically becoming an expectation now to see Apple Family or Twilight family episodes. We have regressed to the relationships these characters had before the pilot, and feel they are more important. While this may be treated as a good thing, it is odd when AJ has probably had more significance in the series being the leader of the Apple Family than as a member of the mane 6. After Twilight made all these new friends the fate of Equestria is better determined by all of the friends she made as a child (Spike, Shining Armor, Cadance).

It is beginning to seem like the Pie family is going the same route now, and Fluttershy will go the same route if the fans love her brother.

  9. The fact that Faust wrote the characters for the game so similar to MLP characters says one of two things:

    1. It's just a cheap attempt to get around copyright.
    2. That's all she knows how to do.

Both of which don't speak well for her. As a write, Faust isn't that good. As a professional, she's even worse.

Faust is AMAZING when it comes to character and world design, for the basic groundwork she is fantastic.

Let me make an analogy that might explain what I think of Faust's talents. She can do some amazing blueprints when it comes to construction, but when it comes to actually constructing a building she insists on using materials that don't make a lot of sense.

We have evidence that many of Faust's ideas were restricted or changed while she was developing the show, and honestly? Had Faust gotten nearly everything she wanted, I wouldn't have been a fan of the series. I really hope that the staff don't try to uphold Faust's vision where it clearly has issues, namely with Spike gosh I hate how little she cared about him.

  10. It's as Mesme Rize put it. Criticism does not equate to disrespect.

That being said, I have kind of slowly started detesting Faust as a creator as time has gone on. I think it's fairly common knowledge that she left the show on somewhat bad terms, we don't know the exact details, but it's made pretty clear that she didn't leave on wonderful terms. Now that the show is more successful than ever though, Faust kind of indirectly realizes she passed up on a huge payday. So along comes Fighting is Magic and Faust sees a chance to cash in and helps people who were given a cease and desist from her former employers and decides to help them get around the cease and desist in the laziest way possible.

I'm sorry, but Them's Fighting Herds is so obviously Faust giving the middle finger to Hasbro and it's super unprofessional. Her "changes" to get the game around the copyright problem are hardly even changes, they're more or less loopholes, look at the characters:

Arizona, an honest farm girl... So Applejack?

Pom a shy sheep who raises animals... So... Fluttershy?

Virtually every character is a carbon copy of an MLP character. It's a blatant loophole work around with little effort put into it. That is why I don't like Faust, she's uncreative and furthermore, she's unprofessional.

I love the brilliant writing, let's name all the towns "BAAAAAH", let's have fart jokes, let's make the characters far less relatable to humans, let's have some grimdark plot about the characters constantly fearing being eaten.

The lore is so uneven between being a serious fantasy world and a goofy fantasy world.

  11. While I do respect the work that she did to make the world and bible of FIM, I have to agree that the show got better after she left.

Season 1 which was the season she had the most involvement was probably my least favorite of the show.

I am more of a fan of the episodes that McCaarthy wrote and especially her direction on how they show would end up going in.

If it were up to Faust, we wouldn't have gotten Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo, Rainbow Dash would have never became a mentor figure to the latter, and the show would have ended at season 3.

Seeing how season 4 is my favorite out of the show, and how episodes like Sleepless in Ponyville, Flight to the Finish, and Crusaders of the Lost Mark are ones that I really love, I am fine with the direction the show has headed after her departure.

Also Faust seemingly wanted nothing to do with Spike, and the character only seemed to gain his own significance after McCarthy took over. I really love the Twilight-Spike dynamic, and I don't mind that it has become the norm for adventure episodes.

  12. That doesn't mean the Mane 6 stop representing them. It just means that the physical elements themselves are in the tree.

Love is likely a powerful magic too, though not as prominent as Friendship. Shining Armor isn't a war leader either; he's just the head of Celestia's guard, if I recall correctly.

I never said Twilight didn't have political duties, I just said she was more like a war general than a regular leader. Yes, she still has political duties, but they're more formalities and at public events, which is hardly the bulk of it. I wouldn't doubt that she may help the Princesses with royal duties, but Celestia, Luna, and Cadance are the main ones who handle all that. Twilight is just sort of someone who handles the lesser events that aren't as significant as the ones the more politically involved Princesses get involved with.

So what exactly are the duties of being a princess of Friendship? Unless it is leading others who do most of that friendship work for you, since it seems like Spike and Fluttershy make a bigger effort to spread friendship across Equestria than she does.
