I followed them straight past engineering, but quickly doubled back and went I to the room. I jumped up on the console and, upon finding where they were headed, closed all the doors in front of them and behind them, trapping them in a corridor. It was all I could do.

A wild Selene uncloaks to your left, just... staring at you, like a creepy kid in a horror flick.

"... What are you doing with that console, Scarlett...?"

She's giving you the benefit of the doubt. Not immediately thinking that you'd be sabotaging an effort to save everyone, for whatever reason.

Amber paused, unsure of what to reply with. The girl seemed so innocent, so ready to accept even the faintest hint of hope; the pegasus was afraid to promise her anything with the fear of letting her down. "L-look, I don't want to make any promises. We barely know anything about technology as it is. But I guess we're too stubborn to just accept these things." Amber put on a brave face, weakly smirking at Selene and keeping her marefriend close. "We'll see what we can do, alright? But please don't get your hopes up. I doubt we can do much for the ship..."

She pauses, frowning disappointedly... before smiling again, with a surprising strength.

"I believe in you... even if you don't believe in yourself."

"Something tells me that you'll figure it all out. I dunno, really. But no matter what... I'm rootin' for ya, alright?~"

"I'm Amber by the way, since you asked. Amber Hearthstone. But no, we aren't stuck here it seems. However, me and Solar here aren't so happy to just leave. We're going to try and see what we can do to get the ship back on course with some power."

Selene's eyes light up with hope as you say that, a wave of golden yellow washing over her skin as the ear-like 'nubs' on her head perk up with excitement. "R-really? You're gonna figure out how to turn the ship around?~"

She waits eagerly for your reply, her tail swaying behind her.

Solar watched as the girl from earlier practically limped toward them, looking incredibly tired. As if she had given up all hope.

 

...like everypony else.

 

She looked toward the door to the hallway, and her determined scowl became more real.

 

No. If there's a will, there's a way. Everypony is going to survive, and I'll do what I must to do it.

 

Wasting no more time, she activated the suit Scarlett gave to her and got into it.

 

"I need to check if this thing has an oxygen supply..."

Selene looks at you a bit curiously as you start getting dressed, her skin turning the slightest tint of orange as she finally gets close enough.

"... Hello, there. Are you guys stuck here, too?..." She holds out her hand, to shake. "My name's Selene... What are yours'?"

Selene, at this point, is just sort of laying on the floor, her skin turning a deep, royal blue as she just sort of... sits there. She seems rather resigned to her fate... Depressed, even.

I guess... this is it, then. No more swimming... no more sleeping... just... everything's done...

...

... Well... all things considered... I'd say I lived a good life...

She looks up at @@Unicorncob and @@1Bit.

Those were the ladies that were cuddling earlier... They seem worried. Are they not on the list, either? Maybe I should go over and try to make them feel a little less horrible...

Selene approaches a bit tiredly.

I stood still, completely unphased by the sudden action. "You're not the only one who is going to be burnt alive. Buy if it's any consolation, the shield will protect us for a while. Well be fine until then. When it fails, the shipship will instantly be incinerated. No pain."

Selene laughs cruelly. "Painless, she says!... P-painless..." She slowly trails off, her laugh going silent... and then turning into sniffles and sobs as she just collapses on her rear, her skin turning a miasma of ugly colors, like paint that's been overly mixed together, as she tries and fails to just blend in with the floor and disappear...

I turned around to Selene. "I'm sorry."

Selene suddenly twitches a bit as if she were slapped in the side. She stands up slowly, facing Scarlett as her skin turns blood-red.

Her tail lashes around, the fan at the tip of her tail spread out wide. Her voice comes out with a tone of biting, hateful sarcasm. "Oh, you're sorry! Well, I suppose that makes this all alright, doesn't it?! Forget the fact that I never even asked to be here, or even on the damn BASE! No, EVERYTHING'S FIIIIIIINE, because some lady I DON'T EVEN KNOW, APOLOGIZED FOR THE FACT THAT I'M ABOUT TO BE BURNED ALIVE!!"

She screamed

As the dozens of ponies in the gate room all start inevitably shouting and panicking, Selene just covers her ear-holes, her skin slowly turning into stripes of lime green and bright red as she curls up into a nervous, breaking-down ball of quivering, whimpering vashti. no no no no no...

"As much as I hate it, Selene, Scarlett's right. This is out of our hands at this point."

Selene takes a deep breath... Inhaling through her mouth, and out her nose. She just sort of... lies down, seemingly calm and carefree.

Meanwhile, in Selene's mind...

oh god oh god oh god i'm gonna die somebody help please. No panicking. Gotta be strong, be happy and cute for everyone else. Maybe if I make them feel better, they can come up with a solution in time...

... hopefully...

Still at the balcony, I began talking loud again. "We have no solution for this problem, but we have found a way for 16 of us to survive. Excluding the 2 that I have chosen, 14 will be selected at random from this room to, survive..." I hated doing this, but there was no other choice.

And then Selene has neurotoxin (DEADLY NEUROTOXIN).

... Well, if anyone is GLaDOS, it's the DM. Otherwise, though... Check Selene's profile and actually look at the tidbits about her species. It's not a reference to portal, and said neurotoxin isn't deadly unless you're too dumb to feel pain.

Oh, and a note on Selene; I would very much compare her to River Tam of Firefly and Serenity. For those of you who know who that is... Good on you for watching good TV shows, and you have been warned.

I glanced back to Solar for a moment and said "Story of my life is being ignored. I think I might go for an extremely direct approach to get everyone's attention."

 

I raised an invisible magic barrier, only visible when being touched, over all of the doors leading out the gateroom. I stepped to the balcony railing and said in a loud voice for everyone to hear. "We are about to fly into a star."

You get, at the very least, a confused an incredulous look from Selene. She just sort of sits there, trying to process how exactly they're going to fly into a star, of all things, when she hadn't even known this to be a space ship. "... You... You're kidding, right?... I mean... our pilot can't be that horrible, right?..."

"... Right?..."

"We are about to fly into a star."

*insert literally all the "oh shit" and "nerds screaming over video game plays" memes*

She leaned Who the heck is that? She thought, seeing her sit next to Scarlett like a cat. She have a thing for her mom or something?

The... thing, looks back at you, its tail swaying around as it slowly turns orange with a curious expression on its face.

Huh? Why's she looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?

The creature promptly starts rubbing at her face, again, like a cat.

I stood there for a moment, ignoring the warnings going on in my head that there was neurotoxin near. I turned around slowly and in the most calm voice I had, I said. "Seven, put those fangs away. It's just a robot, nothing to be afraid of as long as you dont aggravate him." I turned to spectre "Calm down."

 

"Lightning, shut it. Flame and Sapphire, go with spectre. Please. "

Selene pauses and looks up at you, her skin immediately turning gray with the slightest tint of green, like mossy, chiseled stone. "... Okay, Scarlett."

She sits down like a big cat next to Scarlett, crossing her front legs and yawning, her fangs folding back into the roof of her mouth, returning back to her cuter persona.

@, Specter was now annoyed. A simple task that was made seemingly impossible now thanks to Lightning arguing with him. Now the survival of anyone at all was questionable. "He started yelling, rather loudly in Ancient. His light going red and his voice became distorted with hints of static. "I had one job. One Job! And now I can't even get a simple information task done because no one seem to want to listen to the Robot. No. Let's never listen to the robot, what can it know? Its not alive. It cant think about these situations like we can. It doesn't have empathy. Just ignore it, even though I understand the situation the best out of all of us, I'm the one the calculated out trajectory and point of impact by looking out of a window into deep space in seconds, brought this to people's attention to hopefully not get us all killed. I'm the one tasked with informing the only Pilot and Medic on the ship of why they're getting their lives prioritised above everyone else. So it's more than likely with the mood that has been set now they will never listen to reason. Why do I even bother?"

Suddenly, the vashti hiding against the wall flashes a bright, lime green, with stripes of red, as she is startled by the floating, polygonal robot. Selene hisses, backing away from you two quickly and hiding behind @@Ethan Sawyer, baring her serpentine, neurotoxin-laced fangs at the Spectre defensively.
