I will not be CGI; mainly because its an unnecesary risk, and they already had one of the best western animation studios based on FLASH to make a great 2D movie.
Also, its known that the total assigned budget [from writing to animation to distribution] had to be less than 9 digits (no 100+ Millon dolars productions like Disney); meaning a 3D "Shrek" animation [the bare minimum to avoid the "uncanny valley" with the big & expressive ponies heads), its out of consideration.
About the writer... he did not participate on the first 3 Ice Age movies at the scripting level, being instead just an associated producer for those (witch means he may not like dinosaurs at all).
He did not write Ice Age 4 alone; but he was the one who decided to focus the required "adventure" (planned by the executives, alongside the unnecesary "couple" for the sabretooth); as a "Journey to find yourself, trough your friends and family" [based on the ancient Greek epic "Odyssey"]; witch is hard to do when you must add "pirates" as the antagonists for no logical reason whatsoever.

The script of The Movie was made before the S4 finale.
