@rpc8169 New to this stuff, how do I do that Spoiler, "Show" "Hide" button thing?

I'm not sure arguing about who made it 'controversial' adds anything of substance to the debate. Any chance we can just agree that it is because some people found it offensive and then debate the nature of the offense? Those that find unflattering portrayal of a potentially mentally handicapped pony can give their two cents while the others can try to give their feelings on why portraying Derpy as she was/is fair game? Seems like that's a much more valid debate than the blame game.

Hard to say but things in the long term seemed to be better without than with. And the sirens and other banished folks didn't seem capable of doing all that much in the lands that they were banished to. The mice into horses thing was only until midnight, the frogs that became part orange probably weren't able to reproduce anymore so that nixes that. Stuff like altering the parasprites and vampire fruit bats were proably the most egrigious and dangerous examples. Those also turned out to be bad ideas for one reason or another.

Let's be honest though, everypony has some symptoms of something if you leave it vague enough. Big Mac doesn't talk much while Granny Smith shows symptoms of senility. The CMC's cutie mark obsession to the point where they're willing to risk injury, Trixie maybe be a bit narcissistic, etc. Just like everybody in the real world has a symptom or two of something if you look hard enough. Honestly without somebody to actually diagnose though it's largely just speculation and guess work, Unfortunately in the real world there has been a stigma placed on apparent/possible mental ailments that results in some being a little on the oversensitive side. I just wish that those mad at Derpy would go after them instead of somepony who was a bit clumsy and had a bit of bad luck.

I see that it has already been brought up once but I tend to agree with the original point concerning Snips and Snails. Is the rule of thumb that handicapped people/ponies can only be portrayed as long as they've got no redeeming values? At least Derpy was friendly while S&S have shown a tendency to side up with and suck up to baddies without much hesitation. I don't expect it to happen but honestly I'd like to see the writers double down on Derpy, give his eye issues and clumsiness a backstory. Maybe we find out what the Buckaneer Blitz is and that something bad happened while Dash was perfecting it. My idea is that Rainbow one day realized that she can kick a cloud to create lightning and she can go inside clouds. If only she could figure out a way to kick said cloud from the inside and use all 4 hooves, her head, and maybe her tail to create lightning simultaneously... Unfortunately she tried this before she had really perfected her control of which way the lighting goes. Rainbow feels guilty about what happened to a previously spectacular flyer so she drops out of flight school and brings Derpy along. The name Derpy is a nickname that came from her foal in the form of one of those weird, random nicknames or words that babies sometimes give to things.

I also think she may be slightly hindered by having an interesting family. So often when she has a scene she winds up sharing it with others we also like and draw a bit of focus off of AJ.

Just a few vague ideas of what you would think about these as moments or ideas. These are primarily Discord focused but not exculsively. Thoughts, expand on the ideas if you wish. Just curious to think what others feel. A group of ponys demand Discord to be turned back to stone. They feel he's had more chances than he deserves and make a powerplay to force Celestia's hoof. OR after all those chances Discord has had, Celestia decides Discord should be powered down a bit. A sizeable amount of his power is transferred to Celestia, the chaos magic messes with her head, and she becomes the villain that needs to be stopped at some point. We've had to deal with a very dangerous spirit of chaos. Now that he's 'reformed' perhaps the mane six could run into his opposite. An oppressive, over-bearing spirit of order might be something worth bringing into the equation. Rainbow Dash represents loyalty, Discord's loyalty has been shaky. Might be interesting to press that dynamic (either Rainbow tries to prove Discord is still bad, is forced into a position where she has to trust Discord, etc). Celestia takes a vacation. She's spent more than a thousand years as sole ruler of Equestria, and the past few years have been particularly hectic. Now that there are three other pincesses and a prince to pick up the slack she may finally be able to take a day/weekend/week off. How long is Twilight's lifespan? We know of 3 other alicorns and 2 of them are well over 1,000 years old. Now that she's an alicorn too does that mean she'll likely live far beyond the lifespan of her friends and have to come to terms with that? Is there something more to their long life spans and will Twilight get the chance to decide between a longer or normal life? We got a new castle in Ponyville with a new "princess of friendship." Any chance that the actions and decisions within castle inadvertently begin stepping on the hooves of Mayor Mare and her authority within town? Might be worth an episode. So, let's see some comments.
