  1. I imagine Celestia isn't your average princess who wants to sit around in a boring castle being royal and stuff. I think she's a thrill seeker. :twi:

Not just you imaging this. "The Journal of the Two Sisters" confirms this. Even though it was written over a thousand years ago, and we can assume that she has matured since then, we still see her less than serious side. Like when she was messing with the Cakes in "A Bird in the Hoof" or at the end of "Griffon the Brushoff" when she laughed about getting pranked with the invisible ink. And yes, as seen in the "Best Night Ever", she found the ensuing chaos that the mane six brought to the gala to equate to fun.

Now that I think about it, since Twilight had helped organize this gala, maybe Celistia invited Discord ...or current resident as payback on Twi for the chaos she (and her friends) brought to the last gala.

  2. I am pretty sure that she is nocturnal unless the Alicorn sisters are more god-like than we think and they do not actually need sleep or maybe not as much as normal ponies do.

Right! It's like fifteen minutes in "alicorn time" is like two hours of pony time. A one hour nap would a full eight hour sleep.

  3. I think it was to show that "nerds" can also be "heros". And that knowledge=power.

For the record, I have the "Journal of the Two Sisters", the "Journal of Friendship", and recently the "Elements of Harmony" as E-books. ...and I plan on reading more on my tablet.

With that, I have also bought a hard copy of "Journal of the two Sisters" for my five year old niece (who recently got into reading because of 'read it and weep". She loves Dash)

Chicks that like to read books are awesome!

  4.  I mean if Discord can look into the past with clarity, why couldn't he easily look into the future?

Anyone with a history book (or good memory) can look into the past with clarity. Looking into the future, not so much.

This post will receive two "brohoofs" and one reply. (That's me looking into the future.)

My last post received two "brohoofs" and no replys (that's me looking into the past with clarity)

  5.

So why do some people in this fandom, only see the bad or only see the good in this show? I sometimes have the feeling, that the word average is not used enough. Now, i don't want to say this show is average, because i love this show and i never miss an episode. But i think that there are bad episodes, that have good elements and there are good episodes, with bad elements. Same goes for all the characters of this show.

    What do you think?

I think that a lot of the extremes you see people posting are just due to the nature of an internet forum. My guess is that the average viewer, in real life, has more middle of the road opinions than what they post. As for why, total dedication to either loving or hateing, is easier to express anonymously. I also think that some people overly express extreme opinions in order to give their persona more dynamic. For instance, if I were to post " meh, it was ok. It had some good points and some bad points", you wouldn't really know what I'm about. However if I posted something like "OMS! That was the best ever! I love it for being so perfect" or "that sucks! The writer should be shot" then you would have a better idea where I'm coming from.

I don't think there's anything wrong with middle of the road or average opinions. Infact I think most people, if you talked to in person, probably would have more moderate opinions than what they post online.

  6. I live in the US and ship ponies several times a year and I find that the USPS flat rate boxes work pretty good. The small ones are are good for the blind bag size (you can fit like twenty or so in one box). They also work for the brushables. You can get three in with the back card attached if you pack it right (if you take them out of the package, you can probably get six in there, unless they are pegasi, which take more space due to their wings).

The USPS flat rate boxes medium size are good for shipping plushes. You can fit three of the Ty size (6 1/2") in one box. You probably wouldn't want to ship more than one of the Funrise twelve inch plushes in rhissize box. As for the five and a half inch, I've never shipped more than three of those ponies at once, but there was plenty of room for more. I would also suggest the medium size box for shipping the Funko ponies. The box is a little bigger than you need, but that leaves plenty of room for shock absorbing packing material, which I highly suggest for shipping Funko ponies, as they tend to be a bit on the fragile side. And shipping a broken pony is so sad.

Also, I usually buy ponies at retail stores, but Amazon.com will ship ponies for free if you buy more than thirty-five dollars of ponies (or if you are Amazon Prime) otherwise, it will cost about three dollars, so a nine dollar pony will end up costing around twelve. With gas at around three dollars a gallon and my truck getting like twenty-six mpg, and the amount of stores within that range, I only resort to ordering on lone if I can't find what I want in any of the stores. Hope this helps.

P.S. you may want to ask a mod to move this to the merch sub-forum as it has little to do with the show.

  7. Well first off, how would the changlings eat? They would have to steal some love at some point. And if there was a way to feed them without anypony getting hurt, There is bound to be a rouge at some point. And last but not least, What if the changlings demote Chrysalis and somepony else takes over because they think that she is now an unfit leader?

I mostly agree with this. My exception is with your last statement. Chrysalis can't be demoted or overthrown, because she isn't the "Queen" as in a monarchy way, as much as she is the "queen" as in a bee or ant colony kind of way. All the other changelings are akin to the drones of the colony.

  8. I hesitate to call all people who pull content by alternative avenues "pirates" as that implies malicious aforethought. Pre-teens aren't actively seeking to break rules when they download content online - this is the distribution method with which they have grown up, and production companies are going to have to deal with this (I realize older, actually criminally minded people are doing it, too, and yes, they are pirates). Merchandising and show production are intrinsically linked more than they have ever been. Also, MLP has an extremely age-diverse fan base. This is a very interesting subject to follow, at the very least.

That's a pretty good idea. Have the show, and allow for fan-created content. An MLP block of sorts could rake in the viewership, keep the show concept going, and would definitely please the fan base.

While you may be hesitant to call piracy piracy for various reasons (most of which are irreverent, pre teens should know what theft is. They probably weren't fought that it is theft by their parents, because the parents do it too. Because, you know, stealing shit is way cheaper than paying for it.) stealing is stealing and the lack of malicious intent or premeditation dose'nt change that. My guess is that it dose'nt feel like theft, unless it's your pocket being plundered. The way production companies "deal with it" is by having less employees and paying the ones they do have less. The way I happen to deal with it is by educating people about the fact that piracy has real life consequences, and that it affects peoples lives. I tend to do this by not sugarcoating it and calling it what it is, which is plain and simple theft.

P.S. sorry, if any of that came across as any hostility towards you. I wasn't directing at anyone in particular, just piracy in general. (And yes, I'm guilty of it too, I try to keep it minimal.)

  9. Whoever is suggesting they switch to Disney. You do realize Disney doesn't allow fan made works. Like it would be the end of the fandom and of all these websites dedicated to it! Well maybe thats a bit over dramatic considering fans would defiantly fight back but you get the point. C&D's would be common with Disney around the fandom, which would hurt the big guys in the fandom.

Does Disney Channel even air non-Disney owned content?

  10. The pandering is high here, me thinks.

Octavia being in the spotlight and talking just feels off... Very off. Don't get me wrong: I don't care how many head canons this destroys. Destroy them all, I say. I just think it's off to be pandering to this level. Especially when you completely leave out the other musician ponies that the fandom completely ignored. >.>

What you see as Octavia being in the spotlight seems off. She's not even featured for a full minute in a two minute trailer. For all we know that clip could constitute the entirety of her role in the episode. All I'm saying is I think its a bit too early to call. What some are calling "pandering" or "fan service" I choose to see as a "thank you" to the fans for their support, and making it to this milestone.

  11. First off Discovery Family hasn't even been around for a full year yet, so I think its way too early to be putting nails in their coffin. Secondary, they didn't "kick Hasbro out". Hasbro merely gave up majority ownership. Now, let's compare Discovery Family to Hub. Hub aired animated programming from six AM until five PM on weekdays, the majority of which were based on Hasbro toys (Sabrina and Teenage Fairytale dropouts being two I can think of that didn't). Discovery Family airs pretty much the same thing in the same time slot, with the exception of that now all of the animated programming is now Hasbro related. After sixPM Hub took the Nick at Note route and aired re-runs of old sitcoms like Sister Sister and Mork and Mindy. On Fridays and weekends they often aired family oriented movies, with very little to no original programsprograms during primetime hours. Now that it is called Discovery Family, the only difference is that now the primetime programming is no longer sitcoms, but instead it is re-runs of shows from other Discovery Network channels, with little to no original programs. So what does this mean? It means that Hub had to buy the rights to air those old sitcoms and movies, which cost them money, which they hoped to recoup by selling advertising. That didn't really work out. Discovery Family already owns the rights to all the programming that they air. So, what this means is that they run that channel for almost no overhead cost. Discovery Network probably sells advertising in a wholesale block that encompasses all of the various networks that they own, including Discovery Family. A really big difference I've noticed between Hub and Discovery Family is in the quality of the sponsors advertising. Hub had a lot of ads for low end toys "not in stores and available through their website" like juggle bubbles and pajanimales and crap like that. Since the name change the advertising is about the same as on any other network + toys and cereal.

So let's review. The only original programs being produced by Discovery Family is shows by Hasbro, who makes money by selling toys, not advertising. In other words, Hasbro dose'nt rely on advertising money to pay for the production of their programs. Discovery Family dose'nt produce any other original content and don't have to pay for rights to air the majority of the content that they air, except for the rights to the movies. So, they are making money by selling advertising and paying next to nothing for the content that they air. So, even if somehow this business model is hemorrhaging money, I'm almost certain that they will give it more than a year ( and likely try something different) before they fold. Really the only thing fucking it all up is the volume of people who steal content via piracy.

...finally, my degree in television and film production comes in handy (I work in live production)

  12. With me personally, there's a devious likability to the Sirens. Adagio is a cunning, manipulative yet surprisingly upfront leader when she wants to be. Aria, unlike many other subordinate-like characters ((like Silver Spoon)), isn't a blind follower, she has her own voice and outright challenges Adagio's authority multiple times. Sonata... well, Sonata's just too damn cute.

Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon have no such likability. While the Sirens had a legitimate goal that they were working for, Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon simply exist just to bully the CMC. Not to mention they took a level in jerkass that most of the fandom won't forgive when they made fun of Scootaloo for her lack of flying; comparable to making fun of a kid in a wheelchair.

Yep, that is the sober version of what I was trying to say!

  13. Except there was never an organizer position until the Winter Wrap-up episode. Amethyst Star was already the leader of the animal team and helps in the ice-carving as part of the weather team. Mayor Mare is more to blame for not making an organizer position and having Amethyst Star do it.

While you make a totally valid point, which I can almost get behind ( blame the government ) Amethyst didn't get that title because she failed to see the bigger picture. And as a result, all the winter wrap-ups failed to happen on time. Amethyst got out organized by THE master organizer.

P.S. Twilights OCD may be an unfair advantage, but what are you gonna do? She always puts " check the checklist again" as the last item on her checklists.

  14. While your arguement about Twilight makes some valid points ( of which I could debate as to whether the greater positive of her actions outweigh the negative consequences ...and you still might win.). The specific topic is about Amethyst Star, and weather Twilight usurped her as the most organizey, organizing pants pony in all of Ponyville. And the answer to that is NO! No, she didn't usurp shit! If Amethyst Star was all that as an organiser then the Winter Wrap-up would have been on time the year before Twilight showed up. And the year before that, and the year before that, and the year before that. According to Mayor Mare, keeping in mind that she is a politician and is therefore prone to telling lies.

  15. My guess is for balance. In the case with Snips and Snails and Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoons they are antagonists to the CMC, of which there are three. With Film and Flam, they are antagonist to the Apple Family, of which there are four. The only example of two ganging up on one is Upper Crust and Jet Set against Rarity. As mentioned earlier, the Pegasi bullies and the teenage dragons were in gangs of three to antagonize Dash (with Fluttershy and again with Gilda) and Spike.

Slips and Snails don't really bully the CMC, as much as they're just stupid. So maybe with them two half-wits getting togather trying to make a whole? Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoons are probably a pair because if it was just one it wouldn't be too effective because the CMC could easily one philly bitch in her place.

  16. I only watched the 2nd trailer not to spoil me too much, but I'm assuming from the comments that Vinyl's voice wasn't heard in the first one...I hope we'll hear her talking (after all she appears in the trailer, so it's not impossible), though I'm so used to have Nowacking dub her it may be strange if she had any other voice :D

Also, I'm really digging to see more Spa sisters on screen

Yeah, I prefer Vinyl as a nonspeaking character (she speaks with her hooves on the wheels of steel) But, if she does speak she better sound like Jessi!

  17. I know hardly anyone on this site watches Discovery Family channel, but after they premiered all the Rainbow Rocks shorts as "a totally new Equestria Girls adventure" they showed an extended two minute trailer for the one hundredth episode (in addition to the short commercials for it, that they've been showing all morning). So yeah, if anyone saw that and wants to discuss it...

Or just how they played the whole morning out on TV. I think they should have played the shorts in between the movies. At least the five where they acquire their instruments (and maybe Vinyl in "music to my ears"). It would have made more sense to show them getting instruments first. I mean that's how we saw it. They had all the videos on YouTube before the movie came out to bring us up to speed on the fact that the "human" friends were musicians and forming a band. Personally, I've never figured out why they didn't just use those scenes in the movie. So anyway, they should have played those six shorts as kind of a pre movie leaving out the two music videos (the "shake your tail" song is already in the movie) and using that time to play the whole movie ( if you've only seen Rainbow Rocks on TV, there is about four minutes they never show, including an awesome song over the end credits) it all would havefit into the time slot perfectly. And there still would have been the two minute space for the hundredth episode sneek-peek.

Wasn't sure if this should have gone in the Equestria Girls sub forum, so I left it here because of the one hundredth episode part.

  18. I think the morals are there, they're just not outright stated to us like in the friendship reports or the journal entries. I see a return to that in the future, but only sporadically.

The letters to Celistia, and journal entries took up time that is now being used for a couple extra minutes of story telling. I think we may see a return to journal entries when they come up short on an episode, and need to fill a couple minutes. As I pointed out on another thread, Spike is still holding the Journal of Friendship in the opening, so I think that it still exists.

  19. They have changed the opening every season as far as I know. In season one when Twilight descends in the balloon, its right in the middle of Ponyville. In season two, when she descends, there is the train in the background (with the CMC on it) also Granny and Big Macintosh are shown. In season three the photo of just the mane six being sent to Princess Celistia was replaced by a group photo of all the characters taken by Photo Finish.

The song is fine, but I think they need to add more characters.

Like Discord, he is reformed and all, shouldn't he be there with Flutters?

Season four added Discord in the window to Fluttershys cottage (during the part when the song says "sharing kindness is an easy feat") Spike is also seen holding the Journal of Friendship in the group photo, and Twilight is depicted with wings. In the season five intro the Golden Oaks library is replaced with Twilight's new castle.

As for the song, it tells the story of Twilight coming to Ponyville and what her friends are all about. The first ten notes of the song are iconic to the MLP brand since the beginning. Spike has been depicted humming this tune, as well as the bat from "may the best pet win" playing these notes on rims of glasses (before shattering the glasses with a high pitched shriek).

EDIT: The group photo taken by Photo Finish was added in season four, not season three.
