friendship games Why are these films so praised in spite of their horrifically poor writing?
Quinch replied to Cleverclover's topic in Equestria Girls
To me, Cinch is easily most easily understood character of the movie. Heck, she even spelled it out for SciTwi when she press-ganged her into the Friendship Games. Reputation provides a degree of influence, which is in many cases synonymous with power, and she derives at least part that influence from the CPS's quad-annual curb-stomp of CHS. Of course her coercing Twilight to release a massive force she barely understands is stupid, that's the whole point. It's not an act of manipulation, it's an act of desperation - her demeanor notwithstanding, her back is against the wall. Canterlot already won one event and almost won another, both of them being completely unprecedented and she's grasping for something, anything that might possibly give her victory. That's why she outright rejects any possibility of a tie - in the world that Cinch built up, it's not enough to simply show you're good, or even great, but also that you are better than anybody else. After Canterlot put up a fight after she took it for granted for year after year that her students, and by extension her, would simply roll over Canterlot threatened what she valued the most - her power. And she acted as scared people tend to, by grasping at whatever straw she could see, blind to just how much more she could stain to lose. -

Anyone Notice Tara Strong Is Very Political?
Quinch replied to GXPBlast's topic in General Discussion
Haven't really noticed it. There's several twitters by different Tara Strongs, though, does the one you're talking about have an underscore or not? -
Kiiiiind of annoyed. I bricked my tablet and can't find a way to bring it back. @@A10, why not make something happen? It doesn't have to be big, but make it yours.

Unique? Not sure if there is such a thing. But I do try to aim for uncommon. Quinch A fish out of water. He came from a violent environment into a peaceful one, and is trying to adjust to actually getting {sort of} what he wanted. Really, really dislikes other humans. Not out of inherent misanthropy, but because he sees them as too complacent to help themselves, even if their lives depended on it. Has a chronic helper complex, occasionally bordering on martyrdom. He's not an altruist, however, and it's mainly a conditioned reflex. Drakontipa Only one of her species that she knows of - she remembers her mother, but does not know what happened to her. Volatile personality, and her mood switches rapidly in all directions. This is not a result of trauma or some event in her past, but just her nature, and cannot be changed or fixed. Owns a statue gallery filled with exquisitely realistic pieces. She's also somewhat based on greek Gorgons. You can probably make the connection between the two. -
I was referring to impending pun-incited retaliation.

I regret nothing. Except the impending doom.

Constantly. I feel that if I ever start screaming, I won't be able to stop. Snark and complaining are my safety valves and hanging around people online {i.e. you fine folks} helps me stabilize, but I often feel like I'm just one bad day away from losing it irrevocably.

Go for New Zealand. Australia's got crazy censorship. -
Who would you vote for this presidential election?
Quinch replied to Sugar Pea's topic in General Discussion
Well, I'm not in the US, so I don't get to vote, and if I did I'd actually do some research into everyone's who's running. But of the ones I heard of, I'd vote for John McAfee. Admit it, it would be interesting. -

Foundations are good - you've got a solid grasp of anatomy, proportions and expressions. I think the next step might be to focus on clear linework and inking.

Eeeehhhh. At one point. It's just that it's either really good or really, really bad, and it oscillates wildly between the two. It doesn't help that Hussie seems to have no sense of pacing whatsoever and the story goes from impressively dramatic to long stretches of boring, meandering nonsense. Anyhoo, my list of daily reads, both good and sort of meh. Schlock Mercenary: Space opera about a band of... conditionally scrupulous mercenaries. Fifteen years of unbroken daily updates, and for webcomics, that's something. Don't let it intimidate you, though, it's a smooth read. Kevin & Kell : Slice of life furry webcomic about a mixed-species family in a sentient animal world. Nothing too dramatic or crazy, though it does have time progression going for it - characters age, develop and grow. Kind of a consistent B-lister for me. Sinfest: Used to be meh, then it good, and then it got... sorta hateful. It intrigues me, though, and I like the art. Something Positive: Another slice of life webcomic, with slight occasional flirtations with the supernatural, though not in any kind of plot-affecting way. Quite heartwarming, despite the cynical tone. Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal: Gag-a-day intellectual{ish} humor. If you're familiar with XKCD, take that, add slightly better art and penis jokes. Stand Still. Stay Silent. : Post-bio-apocalyptic comic following an adventure of a motley Nordic crew of, let's call them archaeologists. Wonderful art, very intriguing setting, though intermittent updates. Questionable Content: More slice of life, this time two days into the future - mainly in terms that there is now artificial intelligence. AI characters are treated the same as humans, though, and the story focuses almost exclusively on their everyday lives, relationships etc. Freefall: Sci-fi webcomic focusing on the life of a genetically designed wolf on a newly colonized planet, as well as her squid captain, several billion robots and a handful of actual colonists. If you like hard science fiction, odds are you're going to love it. If not, you'll probably just like it very much. Start from the start, though, as at this point, there's a lot of plot resolution stuff going on and spoilers might be hard to avoid. Girl Genius: Steampunk, and lots of it. Semi-serious adventure comic following the adventures of the eponymous Agatha Heterodyne. Pretty good art and fairly consistent updates. A couple of sections have pacing issues {coughcastlecough} but still a fun read. Leftover Soup: More slice of life - I haven't realized I have this many of those - although with more drama than usual. Focuses on a small crew of somewhat, though not excessively, odd characters. Quite thought-provoking, both through characters and author notes, whether or not you happen to agree with them. Broodhollow: A slightly young webcomic, though from a veteran author. A quite disturbing horror comic following the life of an encyclopedia-salesman-turned-antiques-shop-owner in a very, very strange town. Captain SNES: A video game adventure comic, and it manages to pull off the "real person in Videoland" trope quite well. Alternates between serious and silly, with an overarching plot that looks quite promising. Unfortunately, it updates quite infrequently, though the RSS feed helps. Darths and Droids: Star Wars movies retold as a tabletop roleplaying campaign. Sort of. The comic follows the scenes of the movies quite faithfully, but the story itself goes completely off the rails almost immediately. Single-handedly managed to introduce the sentence "Jar-Jar, you're a genius!" to the internet. More to come, I'm getting tired.
