  1. Well what is it that you're passionate about? I want to watch someone who is really into what they are doing. I don't want someone to take up something they have no interest in for my sake.

I know. There is many things I am passionate about. Deciding one is hard as most of what i'm into is already over-saturated. And are all very part of me equally.

  2. Constructive Criticism incoming, feel free to ignore if you are offended by it:

Don't do a channel about pony stuff. There are already so many of them, and you're going to spend a LOT of time getting hate messages from trolls and non-bronies. Bronies have kind of oversaturated youtube at this point and you'd be fighting just to stand out from the crowd. It's not really that original or anything. It'll be a struggle just to get a decent following. It's better to do something unique that will catch people's eyes. Not to mention there are not really a LOT of MLP flash games out there, so you'll run out of material pretty fast.

I do see where you are coming from.

This is all really in beta. What my content will be is in beta. And I do welcome your critique with open arms. And do see what your saying about over saturation. And Hate........ So just one question.....If what my content would be was up to you.......What would you want to watch.

  3. @: Arachnids. But I'm not so scared for the movie CGI and game versions. Probably toned down.

And what also scares me are religious fanatics and SJW's. Those crazies are going really far to push their broken ideology.

Please Tell me about it..........It's sad people just can't use logic but would rather say what ever benefits them at the time.

  4. Hi my name is Carrick Reynolds.

I plan of making videos and uploading them to youtube.

So I decided to open this thread so I can receive advice on what to do before starting.

And about what I should do for my first video.

First video? you ask. Yes see I plan to play three MLP related flash games as kind of a introduction to my channel.

But don't know what flash games I should play.

    Bonus stuff:

    Here's a link to my channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UComU1mcqBojtFTHQegaBfSQ

I plan for my channel to be about me playing different ponies games.

This could be anything pony related.

I'm already planning a series where I play Ponymon Dusk 0.4.

  5. That's right. I went to Disneyland Paris more than 14 years ago without those problems. A few months ago I've read an article of a consumer watchdog who had to wait almost an hour before the first round of the diner was ready. And the shopkeepers where lazy as hell. An senior worker at the main Disney company even suggested that if Disney was still alive and saw the fiasco he would probably go in rage mode like Donald Duck and bulldoze the whole park to prevent further embarrassment and backlash.

Do you and others have questions about gaming, MLP or more?

And questions about Warhammer are welcome too  .

Finally I would like to know.....What scares you the most.......me?.........Aquariums......It has something to do with what happened to me when I was young......I won't get into it here.......

  6. Went it good in the California Disneyland?

All I know is that Disneyland Paris is pretty overpriced now. And they also have problems with their workers.

Yep Paris now a days is completely filled with greed. And while I have heard some similar stories in the Amercian ones .

I can safely say they are no where near as bad as Paris.

  7. That really sucks. I went to Disneyland with a good weather.

I've had gone to Disneyland before hand but to the California one. So I guess I'd already had my experience at Disneyland *sigh*

  8. I can't remember to have a bad holiday. And I don't think that I ever had a bad holiday.

I did. It was at disneyland paris of all places. We just had to go.....IN A NEVER ENDING SNOW STORM WHICH WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER!

  9. Also sometimes. But I've no problem to make something more obvious again.

    Sorry for the late post.

No problem I'm still waiting for replies from a lot of other people. I know people get busy. I get quite busy at times myself. No Sweat.

  10. In this topic we will post what is wrong with us. I have OCD, Tourrettes, Scoliosis, Avoidant Personality Disorder, and severe autism. DO you have anything wrong with your body or mind?

I have both a mild high functioning autism and a mild ADHD.

I suffer from social issues due to how quickly I'll change topics at random and having very different opinions than most people have.

My biggest issues were in the past and are so personal I won't talk about them. But I can be happy to say they have been resolved.

My biggest problem right now(If you can even call it that) Is hyper-activeness. A good example of this is when I sit down while I won't move obvious body parts like my body. I'll be tapping my figures or swinging my lags like i'm doing right now as I write this.

I will constantly move in circles when I'm talking at times.

Due to what feels like a endless amount of energy.

And will Sometimes when on the computer just get up and walk around the house for no reason and come back up.

  11. Three T-shirts displayed on my bedroom walls as I've grown out of them.

And a piece fan art of chrysalis saying "Change Is Good".

As you could probably tell I don't generally get much stuff as my family in general are not wealthy by any mean of the word.

As such I've barely get new things besides Xmas and my birthday and even then it's very lack luster at best.

  12. I don't think she has autism personally.  I've never been tested for autism but I'm 90% sure that I land somewhere along the spectrum.  Many people avoid talking to me because my mind can instantly switch from one topic to another.

And I'm most certainly not ignorant to social norms, but I'd rather not converse with ignorant people that spout ignorant statements, since that tends to irk me.  I never talked to anyone in middle/high school because no one ever understood my stances on certain things.  And now that I'm in college I'd have to say that it's pretty much the same scenario, just a bit more tame.

In all seriousness I agree. Besides being socially awkward she doesn't really retain that many common issues related to autism.

Now I can't speak for every autistic person. through I may be on the mild and high functioning part of the spectrum.

It does go on a spectrum and will vary from person to person. Like even through we may have the same issue with autism he might have it worse off then me etc.

I'm much like you MountainDrew. in the sense I change my topics very suddenly and have very different stand points then most people but I also have to attend to being Hyper-active.

You will find even when I'm sitting I'll be swinging my lags or tapping my fingers I'm constantly moving my body in one way or another to let out all the energy that is inside of me.

  13. Story:

After many years of fighting with many mythical beasts and creating friendship the heroes had successfully created a more peaceful world where creatures like Discord,Tirek and even The Sirens can get along or so they thought.

10 Years later a war breaks out due of a lack of room of expansion for the villains as they breed and grow.

While it would seem simple to give them more land The "Demons" want more than that they want to be one with the pony community.

Many ponies disagree to this movement as "Demons" as they call them.

Have a very violent culture which they feel is threatening.

In the end the new leader of Equestria Princess Starset Says no to letting the demons into pony society.

(Starset took the place of Princess Twilight only recently after a untold accident which has not been told to the public.

(This includes her friends who also died in the accident. Princess Celestia and Luna also dead trying to help them). )

Civil war starts to break out in Equestria over the two tribes.

On one side is the ponies who fear the demons being a part of their society.

And the other side our the demons fighting for their rights as creatures with some ponies joining in their fights because they believe their goals are noble.

    Rules:

1:You may ask to be a character like Discord or Tirek or something but you must ask me first and you'll need approval from me.

(Also if you start being to OP with their powers I will remove your right to be them. So keep that in mind.)

2: No content that is over PG13 should be in the RP

(No sexual content,No Drug use and No swearing (something like Skittles is allowed as a replacement) Are some examples of content that is not allowed)

3:Be nice and respectful to everyone in the RP

    4:NO ALICORNS

(The only Alicorn here is Starset and maybe Cadence or something. Most of these characters won't be fighting however)

    Characters in the RP:

    1: CoderSexyToucan

  14. Well I'm glad I can be of some help with your first OC! :) Now let's get down to it.

Design-wise, the base would fit right in! As for the cutie mark, however, the way you described it sounded like the aura, plus sign, and sword would be separated, and I feel this would make the plus sign stick out like a sore thumb. Instead, perhaps have a sword with a magical aura, and the plus sign on the hilt - with emphasis on the plus sign the form of "shine" lines.

    Kind of like this: sig-4173497.RcAy687cL.jpeg

Now comes an important question: How does he enchant the weapons? Being an Earth pony, it doesn't make sense for him to be able to cast spells the way Unicorns do. The only pony zebra we see using magic is Zecora, and she can only do so in the form of potions. So in order to enchant weapons, an Earth Pony would need to do it physically - reading a spellbook just wouldn't cut it! Some ideas that come to mind are:

    - Adding magical gemstones/gem dust to the weapons. (Either naturally magical or enchanted for him by a Unicorn.)

    - Adding potions to the weapons. (Either encased in a chamber within the weapon, or added right to the metal itself.)

    - Alchemy, still involving the aforementioned magical items.

If you want him to be the one to add the enchantment directly, potions or pre-magical gems are the way to go, but pre-magical gems don't seem to be common within the show. So potions is your best bet while keeping him an Earth-pony. It would still make the most sense to change him to a Unicorn, however, but ultimately that's an "elitist" choice and you can still get around it.

I think Paint Brush is very cute! ^^ Her design would fit into the show just fine, and her backstory is well-written. The only thing I'm personally curious about is why she likes to play pranks on other ponies - this was mentioned in her relationship with Magnum, but wasn't really explained. I know pretty much anyone can like playing pranks, but I'd want to know why it's such a big part of her and Magnum's friendship - Did she like playing pranks before she met Magnum, and it was a bonding point between the two? Or does Magnum like playing pranks, and while Paint had no real preference, she enjoys the bit of mischief with her friend? Or perhaps Paint was really unsure, and Magnum brought out "a bit of bad" in her? While their main dynamic will always be artwork, if the pranks were important enough to mention, they should be an important aspect to their relationship - and this demands explanation! >:0

Thank you. After redoing the cutie mark. I started talking with the "local witch doctor" *wink wink* about how weapon enchantment works.

It's in the other section if you wanna see it.

    https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/gem-sharpener-r8960

But no seriously thank you for the review it has help a lot more than you could imagine. If you wanna review the new updated version. Please go straight ahead. But you don't have to if you don't want to.

  15. After reading your long blurb, I don't really understand what you want help with? It kind of looks like you were just talking it out with yourself. XD If you really need help with something, please be more specific as to what it is! (Glad you like my art tho!)

Well, since you're asking for whether or not it's realistic enough (using the definition of 'realism' I've given in the original post) - No, it's not.

First off, I think you're going to have to re-write his backstory. When you do, make sure it's in chronological order (what comes first comes first). You don't need to go into as much detail as you have - only include the details that are important in explaining his character.

EG: How did breaking that bully's hoof effect his personality? He regretted it, but did it change him? Would he do it again? How did it effect his social life? If the event doesn't effect him as a character, doesn't change him, doesn't give him any depth - get rid of it. It can still have happened but it's not important..

As for his talent, a programming talent doesn't seem to be possible in canon.. or at least, not very viable. To be fair, Equestria does seem to have technology all over the place, but so far, we haven't seen more than arcade games, DJ P0N3's turntables, and that one joystick console game Pinkie Pie played in a Cartoon Network Promo (which I'm not going to count as being canon). I suppose he COULD still be into programming, but it would be very basic programming. You're looking at arcade games being the most advanced type of programming he'd be able to know - I'm not sure if "hacking" would exactly be possible. His name might need to be changed - "Binary Notes" is the first thing I can think of, or maybe "Chip Tune" - a type of arcade-style music.

Delving into the backstory, I don't understand how he would get a music note cutie mark - even with binary inside of it - from realizing he had a knack for programming. Sure, he loves music, but the music doesn't tie into the programming at all. If his cutie mark was going to reflect his "special talent", that special talent would have to involve both music AND programming, together. Perhaps he could learn how to make his program play music - music that itself needed to be coded - and so he wrote a song using the programming language? (This is possible - I've done it actually!)

I don't understand why or how he became interested in engineering and magic. Also, at one point you said he's, and I quote: "he's hardly learned anything at Programming" - how can he get his cutie mark in programming if he's not quick to understand it? He can't. Be consistent with this. If it's his special talent, he has to be good at it. No ifs, ands, or buts!

As for his cutie mark/design - for his mark you're going to want to make the note larger, and simplify the binary. I'd suggest only choosing a few lines of code to put into the "dot" of the music note. You want it to be easy to draw, and easy to tell what it is. For his over all design, it's acceptable, but personally I'd change his eyes to a brighter orangish-brown, and the black of his mane to a navy blue. The design changes are my own personal preference, and I feel they would make him "fit" into the setting of the show more. (Also because black manes with colored streaks are very common among OC ponies and feel very overused, while not being the norm in the show.)

Hi. Recently I've made my first OC. As this is my first OC. I've been looking for as much critique as I can get. Just recently I've edited most of his backstory to fit more with the canon. Now that's fixed. I've been looking for even more critique. And this would probably the perfect place to start.

    https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/gem-sharpener-r8960

  16. @@Gaviera, not bothered by late responses, promise, haha. I'm guilty of them far too often myself.  :) Anyways, I'm glad you found the critique helpful.

I saw the links a little earlier, before dA temporarily crash as it is right now, haha. They were really quite impressive, and I could see why you'd aim for it for practice.   I've said it before, but I think you're definitely on the right track, and I'd to wish you the best with experimenting more and more!

Hindsight is a weird thing, haha. I think overall you made great choices, and those areas aside, it continues to show promise.  :P Keep up the awesome work, eh? I hope your ideas wind up fun to play with, and help you towards your end goal pretty nicely.  :dash:

@, by the sound of it you're looking more at criticism on the OC side, rather than the visual art side. :grin2: You probably want to ask around the other section: creative resources > original characters

Though my basic criticism, since you asked, revolves most heavily around his cutiemark story.  :rarity: Gaining your cutiemark tends to be major epiphany moment where they understand some major insight about who they are and/or what they want in life. By how his history is worded, it seems like he got it from fixing a weapon, and accidentally shooting someone else with it. Actually that whole part of his story feels... a little out of place, especially in Equestria. Also, since guns are not canon, he could be disqualified from places like Equestrian Empire (I think?) just on that detail.

I think you would do better by redefining his early story around his discovery of his love for inventing (or talent), and focusing on his growth.  :fluttershy: As is, it paints him a very reactive person, with little input into the situation beyond curiosity and confusion--like, things happen to him, he gets his cutie mark, but we don't know the meaning of the events or why they matter.

Also just for profile purposes... appearance, personality, and such of the like are better repeated then just having that section be a reference elsewhere. For example, I have a slight issue discerning colors, especially in low light, so how would I know his color scheme for sure? Photographs often add tints and shadows. Or, what's his tail like?

And, backstory is a great place for just that.  :twi: His core personality, traits, and values are a decent place to put in his personality section. Profiles and reference pages are all about clarity and good presentation of information.  :grin2:

Also, just so it's said, I do like what I can see of his color scheme, and some of the overall ideas of his character seem pretty great. So, I think he has potential to be a pretty decent character for sure.  :)

Thanks! I see what your saying about the out of place thing. I think that would probably be a great place to start. But nevertheless thank you this has really been helpful!

  17. Hi. Recently I wanted to get into roleplay again. So I decided to create a new OC. I want this OC to be my biggest yet. But I don't know much about creating Original Characters so I made the best backstory I could make. And would now be looking for critique so I can improve on the character. As I feel he's not perfect what do you think

    Critique Exchange

    Hello all!
Let me welcome you to a little thread devoted to giving and receiving critiques! Part of the fun of being an artist is seeing yourself grow and learn, and from what I can tell there isn't a fully devoted place to get some solid critique from other artists here on the forums just yet.

Why Receiving Constructive Criticism is Great
Whether you're relatively new to art, or possess a large body of experience already, chances are there's still room to improve and get better at what you do! While we ourselves are capable of picking apart our own work, sometimes an outside perspective can catch things we ourselves did not see. Though sometimes it can be a little harsh, criticism is a great tool to use when drawing to improve.

Why Giving Constructive Criticism is Great
Strangely enough, giving criticism can be very helpful too! Not only does it help you learn to better articulate your thoughts regarding a piece, it forces you to look closely at a work and evaluate how different pieces fit together (or don't). You’re bound to run into a variety of styles, approaches, and techniques, which may spark ideas for your own work or provide insight for future improvements.

    Purpose of this Thread
The core theme of this thread is improvement. After all, no one is perfect, and facing potential areas to improve head on is one of the quickest ways to get better as an artist.

Everyone has something to contribute here! Whether you’re seasoned or new to the art game, chances are someone out there can point out an area to improve that you weren’t aware of, or help give you some ideas on how to proceed. On the other hand, you don’t have to be a great artist to find flaws or areas to improve in pieces of art. First impressions are important, and with how much media/art we see floating around, many of us know when something doesn’t look quite right! A lot of art depends on how it’s interpreted, as well as how it’s constructed. Even if someone’s ability seems to surpass your own at first glance, you may still find something helpful and worthwhile to contribute that they can use, so don’t be afraid to offer your thoughts!

Rules of Thumb, and General Guidelines

The best criticism is a mix of positive and negative! It can be discouraging to be given all negative words when you’re trying to better yourself, and likewise all positive words can leave you very little to go on.
Constructive criticism is still criticismeven if it’s meant well! Some people are more tactful than others with how they offer their thoughts, and being on the receiving end can feel a good bit harsh sometimes. If you don’t feel you could take someone putting down your work, you may want to wait on getting it criticized.
    - Try to be as clear as possible about your criticism. You don’t have to know what could be done to fix something, or exactly what bothers you, but the clearer you are the more likely it is to be helpfulFor example, saying a character looks a bit lifeless is very different than saying their pose comes off too rigid or stiff.
Put your own judgement first. It’s extremely important to hear what others have to offer with an open mind, but ultimately it’s the artist’s call on what to do with it all.Sometimes preference plays a huge role in stylized pieces, and you should look for areas that may be valid, but not universally sought after. There will be times where criticism may point you towards a direction you don’t want to go, and it’s important to recognize that sometimes you have to pick and choose what is most helpful to you.
Please respect the time people put into a work or critique. To a certain extent, you’re bound to receive what you give, and so if you spend a good chunk of time on a work that showcases what you can do, there’s a good chance you’ll give others a lot more to offer helpful critique on.  Regardless, proper critiques take time and effort, and are almost always meant to be helpful rather than hurtful; meanwhile, it takes some amount of faith to let strangers judge something you worked hard on, and tell you what you might have done wrong.

    A Word About Styles
Sometimes an artist’s style will make it hard to criticize, as some choices they make may go against conventional proportions or aesthetics. However, even if something can be attributed to style, it’s important to remember that how it is interpreted and received is still important. First impressions are vital for visual mediums, and while a style may get different reactions from different people, each one is still valid and worthy of noting. What may be liked by someone may not by another, and whether it was intentional or not, it’s still often worth pointing out.

    How to Proceed
It’s simple: post your art, or come find some pieces to critique! You're also welcome to clarify any areas you want focused on.

I want to try to get a few people to regularly check in, but I’m hoping there will be enough interest to get a bit of the MLP Forums community going back and forth here, and helping each other out!

sorry I sent it without the link https://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/gem-sharpener-r8960

  18. As you might have noticed, there's a certain niche crowd out there for retro gaming. A lot of recent games have been made in a 32-bit style with chip tunes to call back to the older days of gaming, to the SNES and Genesis. These games have shown themselves to be... very well done, in a lot of cases. After all, they are utilizing tech that is well known and probably helped along by newer processors that can more than handle the payload.

But I pose a question to you? Would you be interested in a game inspired by those made around the late 90s? To clarify, I'm talking about the games that came out for the original PlayStation and the Nintendo 64. Games with an excessively low polygon count, synthy music, and when 3D games were becoming a reality. Could this be an unexplored avenue developers could explore? Or is it too much of a downgrade with not enough reward or nostalgia to entice you to play it again?

Yes. Mainly (because i'm a fan of both Sony and Retro Games) I would buy PS1 looking games and play those.

    (CRASH I   YOU BABY)

  19. It's because they stand from a biased outside perspective which is filled with society standards and gender roles.

Let's put it this way. Say you never got into my little pony the show sucked nobody like it. But then the equally bad show Dora The Explorer gets popular with adults.

wouldn't you find it a little bit strange?

once you watch a show like this and enjoy it you leave the bias behind. But if you had never like the show. Never like a child's show at all. and you saw people liking Dora The Explorer. I bet your first thought would be "What? you've got be kidding me? What a bunch of weirdos"

people will accept us eventually as soon as the hate and bias goes away. but for now this something we have to deal with.

    • Brohoof 1
  20. Sometimes. Not always. But sometimes I won't comment on a post because I don't think I have much to say besides the obvious which has already probably been posted.

Does this ever happen to you?

  21. Would you nerf an OP Pony in order to beat them? Note the overpowered ponies don't know they got nerfed.

Let's say for example you challenge Applejack to a hoof wrestling match. But she's totally overpowered and you a mere underpowered human can't ever hope to defeat her.

However, one day Discord gives a magical item that allows you to temporally nerf a pony's power. So, this time you stand a fair chance, if not an outright easy win depending on how much you nerf her powers.

Said magical item could even be used to nerf Rainbow Dash, so that you a mere human could beat her in a race.

The nerfing power is so great you could even beat Big Macintosh in a wrestling match. Even the almighty overpowered alicorns would fall before the power of the nerf.

No. That would be cheating. I would rather lose then to cheat using magic. Which is a dangerous entity at times that can cause endless harm to the pony in question. "It's best to be you rather than trying to be something your not"
