Streaming alone is difficult and a little bit awkward. Want to be part of the show? You can add me on Steam and Battle.net, if you'd like. My Steam page is http://steamcommunity.com/id/HeartIsNakedand my BN is HEART#12458. I tend to stream whenever I feel like it which is usually after midnight EST. I mainly play Overwatch, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered (When it'll launch) and Quake Champions (When it launches too). Even if you don't have these games on PC, chatting with you would still be fun ♥

Shameful disclosure, I'm not even getting paid to type this blog. It's just a little PSA, sort of, about what readers can buy to improve their gaming experiences. But really, everyone hates lag and not everyone knows nor cares about reducing lag. I've talked to competitive Smash Bros Brawl online players about it and they're ignorant and apathetic, and they're the kind of gamers who should be raging the hardest about lag

In most modern games, net code has improved so they'll still be playable even without my recommendations. This is more for the perfectionists, competitive players, and anyone who plays FGs

The biggest thing anyone can do to improve their online experience is upgrading their internet service to anything that isn't shitty like dial up (if it even still exists) or even worse, satellite. Your ISP service is going to be the worst bottleneck because it's the weakest link in your connection, which for almost all cases, it will be. Network speeds are only as fast as their weakest links

The next biggest thing you can do to improve connection speed is by getting an ethernet cable to connect your system to your router. You don't need an expensive category 7 cable. Cat5e will be plenty. It theoretically supports a network speed of up to 1 Gb/s, which is way more than what games demand. You'd have to have like a $1,000/month internet bill to put all of that speed to use. Whatever you do, don't buy these cables in retail stores. They're their profit makers which have excessive markups. Buy them from online stores instead which sell them for like only 10% of the cost

If you can't use a wired connection for gaming online, you could try upgrading your wi-fi router antennas. Most routers come with cheap tiny antennas to cut costs on the final product and maybe also to help them look less ugly so that customers might be more likely to buy them. Generally, the bigger the antennas, the farther they can send signals. Look for antennas with the highest amount of gain, measured in dBi ( I recommend http://www.simplewifi.com/9dbi-large-indoor-antenna-smarp.html )

Also, you might want to upgrade your internal wi-fi card too to improve signal strength on the other side of the connection. The 1 found in your laptop will probably be good enough for most wi-fi use, but you might be able to buy something better. Look for wi-fi cards that support 802.11ac since it's the newest standard. Connection speeds on those cards can reach up to 867 Mb/s. Your router will need to support it so that your wi-fi card can use it. You could also install 3rd party antennas with flat ends to help improve signal strngth ( https://www.amazon.com/PORJET-Notebook-Bluetooth-Broadband-Internal/dp/B01F6GDM84/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1475905532&sr=1-8&keywords=laptop+antenna )

Lastly, if you have any spare Lego, Rubik's cubes, or anything like them, you could prop up your laptop to stand above whatever surface it's on. It can improve signal strength by up to 10 Mb/s. However, I've only tested this in a specific environment so it might not generalize to other situations well. It worked for me on Windows 7 in a basement with a concrete ceiling in a dorm that holds 180 students. The results didn't clearly replicate when I tried it again like a year later in the same place. You can try it and enjoy what'll mostly be a placebo if you want. I always did it with my laptop to help cool it by giving the bottom intake vents a bigger pool of air to pull from and to protect it in case anyone spilled anything on the same table it was on

Unrelated to network lag, the other key area where lag can occur is on your display. Monitors don't display images instantly. Except CRTs, practically. But new GPUs don't support VGA connections anymore, so you can't use modern GPUs on them without converters anymore. But for modern monitors, just look for any gaming monitor. Asus and Benq are the biggest producers of them so I'd recommend any by these brands. In my opinion, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236313&cm_re=asus_248qe-_-24-236-313-_-Productis the best <$300 model you can buy. According to http://www.prad.de/new/monitore/test/2013/test-asus-vg248qe-teil7.html#Latenzzeit , this monitor has been tested to have only 1.6 MS total image change time at 144 Hz mode. Also, the faster the refresh rate on the monitor, the sooner it will display the next frame. More frames/second simply feels smoother. For me, it's painful to go back to 60 from 144

All of the products I've mentioned are only suggestions and only things I've tried using. I know their results from actual gamer feel and placebo. I can't deny that the latter could affect me, especially on my laptop trick. But really, if you find anything you think could be better for reducing lag, go for it. This blog is just a fun little unsponsored PSA for gamers to reduce lag, if they want to. It's more fun. Lag just feels bad. Your opponents will thank you, especially in FGs, if you lag less. It has happened to me when I played Brawl online a few times. You might even thank someone too if you're a competitive tryhard

This list is completely subjective and only has subjective reasons behind each place. I don't know a thing about story/character theory, so you automatically win every debate against me in that regard ever

    4. Princess Celestia

In canon, Celestia was the well praised princess that everypony loved and Luna got ignored. In the fandom, the opposite is true. Luna is praised to no end and Celestia's often ignored. I think this is because a lot of introverts relate to her, behind introverted, hidden, an underdog, or just simply a night owl. I love Celestia because she's the underappreciated leader no one gives enough credit to. She's also quiet an introvert, given how little she acts in the show and even how she hates The Grand Galloping Gala, a big fancy party full of socializing with other fancy rich people

I relate to her really well. We're both introverts who aren't in the limelight yet still have an influence in our own worlds. More like I had an influence and calling it an influence is definitely a delusion of grandeur. I'm not a king. There's also the trollestia and other fanon personality of hers ♥ that I relate to well too

    3. THE GREAT & POWERFUL TRiXiE

This pony won my heart the moment I saw her. She's such a showoff. Again, my love is another matter of relatedness. I love showing off too. Back when I played Smash Bros Melee competitively, I almost never played to win. I almost never researched how to win, almost never practiced in the game, and only played on my own strategies only with other players. Practicing and researching alone is boring. I aim to entertain and some have told me they enjoy seeing me play. We're both actors with emanating personas. She's great and powerful whereas I love to satire and tell everyone I have no skill. There is some truth to what I say, but let's be serious for 1 sentence about my skill. I have some, but I do stupid things, and when they work, it's even stupider, because my opponents are. No hate

    2. Maud Pie

This pony won my heart more instantly than any other. I rewatched Maud Pie 3 times in a span of 3 days when I 1st saw this episode. It brings such a good light to very introverted people. They may be weird and difficult to talk to or befriend, especially if they have a focused obsession with only a certain topic and weird social behaviors, but they're secretly good people

    1. Starlight Glimmer

Call me an SJW. I'd love to pretend to be 1 for trolling fun. But really, I love her because she has an ideology to create a perfect world and she works to achieve it. She's the most pacifistic villain in the show yet also the most powerful. She's the only pony in MLP lore who could use Starlight The Bearded's time travel spell more than once. Her use of it drastically changed the universe's fate 7 times (creating 8 parallel universes?). And she did this primarily through nonviolent means. She was fighting to fulfill an ideology. She lost twice by having her ideology proven wrong. There's no villain better than her in power, story, nor friendship ♥

But I still respect some of her ideology she tries to bring to the world. Her exact ideology of equalizing everyone by limiting their talents to nothing isn't the right way to go about it. People have differences, including differences in abilities. Those outcomes shouldn't be equalized, they should be embraced. My own ideology I'd like to see in the world is an equality in contribution to each other. Take a look at the Smash community for example. That place has the worst equality of contribution I've ever seen. Everyone gives so much support to the Melee community and the Melee community gives nothing or shit in return. I understand that Brawl is a bad sequel to Melee and it cut Melee's player count in half during the 1st 6 months of Brawl, but I disagree with the bashing of Brawl and its players. I know they have their freedom of speech, but I won't stop them from insulting anything they don't like. They have understandable reasons. Thankfully, they didn't bash Smash 4 as hard as they bashed Brawl, so some of my ideology has been achieved

Brawl and Smash 4 helped Melee in ways that might not be appreciated. Brawl players donated a lot of money during the Breast Cancer Research Foundation donation contest that EVO held in 2013. Ever since July that year, Brawl tanked in popularity and Melee soared. Does anyone else find it unfair? What's also unfair is how Mlee gets featured at so many FGC tournaments and Melee players almost never host anything for the FGC at their own events. The exposure to boost popularity is unidirectionally in Melee's favor, greatly. No fighting game ever had as much growth as Melee

I can't do much of anything to push my own ideology onto others. I shouldn't tell others what to do. At 1st I tried playing Street Fighter and Guilty Gear and uploading videos to my channel. But then I stopped because it created too much stress and didn't help me grow my channel. In the end, I just left. There is no room for casual gaming in Melee's competitive scene. My current choices of games benefit me better and I do what I'm good at to benefit viewers online who enjoy casual funny moments in games

Melee can't give back to the developer of the game like other esports games can. There's no way to keep bringing in revenue from active players because there's simply no DLC. Melee players don't buy the new consoles nor Smashes, generally. Modern esports games have DLC to support the developers and the developers in return support their competitive scenes. What could be a better equality of contribution?
