  1. Cool. I remember spending several recesses in 6th grade looking for 4 leaf clovers. Our playground had quite a few patches of clovers but never found the lucky one.
  2. I have a couple of cool paintings of fish hanging on my wall, but I usually don't buy a lot of art because family portraits take up a lot of my wall space. I could possibly make room for an Applejack portrait or something. lol
  3. I haven't traveled outside the U.S. yet. I did go to the Canadian border a couple years ago while vacationing; however, I still don't have a passport. I need to get one.
  4. Pretty much a normal island but with a snow capped mountain and giant observatory. With that said, I would avoid the south side of the island. Lots of craziness and random things will be there waiting for anyone feeling adventurous. lol
  5. I don't think an avatar influences my personality. I think of an avatar as a reflection of something I like or like to do.
  6. I'm 5' 8" and most of my family members are shorter than me.
  7. I would take Applejack to a picnic on a nearby hill and watch the sunset.
  8. MLP helps lower my blood pressure. lol. Seriously though, it's relaxing to watch after a stressful day at work or something.
  9. Luna is looking sharp tonight!

@Snow, It depends on how steady the atmosphere is. My estimate would be 80-100X magnification before atmospheric turbulence begins to degrade the image. High powers are frequently used on the Moon for craters, you'll just need to do lucky imaging to discard the distorted images.

I imaged some craters near the Moon's terminator a couple nights ago. Magnification is about 400X.

      Those pictures are amazing! :rarity:

      Man that's so cool

  10. I google searched for Twilight Sparkle with a telescope. I certainly wouldn't mind an avatar of Apple Jack using a telescope.
  11. Oh, there's lots of stuff I do when I'm away from the computer. I dabble in all sorts of things like thermal imaging, astrophotography, and target practice. I occasionally hangout with some friends from high school or college days.
  12. I mostly use a PC to visit the forum, as I do not like typing on a touchscreen. Plus, my phone is well past its service life. lol
  13. It's not often for an amateur astronomer to talk nice about clouds, but they are amazing when photographed with a near IR camera. The sky becomes black, which really makes the clouds pop out.

@Mellow Mane , clouds have a strange habit of showing up right after purchasing telescope accessories. lol

@Simply Cerberus, lol! It took me a second to see it, but now I do.

I guess I should take back some of the bad things I've said about clouds. :adorkable: I think especially the first picture looks great – those lights... :rarity:

@Tacodidra, clouds tend to get the same treatment as our Moon in amateur astronomy circles. lol. A lot of astrophotographers view the Moon as a giant light polluter.

  14. My greatest strength: Balanced skill set (sorta like a Jack of all Trades) Greatest weakness: I tend to get nervous around other people I don't know. It's kinda awkward at first but I do settle down and get comfortable as the conversation progresses.
  15. Earthworm Jim comes to mind. It's been a while since I played it but I remember getting stuck on the level with the glass submarine or whatever that thing was. I still haven't finished Sonic Mania. It's a great game, just been busy doing other stuff.
  16. A typical day for me is pretty much average stuff, like getting ready for work, commuting, etc. However, the real fun starts when I have free time, which is usually in the evenings and on weekends. I have lots of hobbies. lol
  17. Bowling was something I enjoyed as a kid. I guess I was ok at it. I don't go bowling much these day tho, except at the occasional birthday party.
  18. I'm sitting on my couch in the living room. I just brought my large telescope inside. A couple of hours looking at the planets really lowers blood pressure after a stressful week at work.
  19. Not a bad night at all, however, I think this will conclude imaging season for Jupiter and Saturn. These 2 are well past their oppositions for this year. Enjoy everypony!
  20. Saturn looks quite a bit different when imaged at the Methane Absorption Band at 889nm. The rings lack Methane and are quite reflective here.

  21. Steady air is in the forecast tonight. Time to setup up the Skywatcher 16 telescope. I'm in the mood for some narrowband imaging.

I'm glad to hear the weather is good again! :fluttershy: I hope you get a lot of great pictures!

Aside from the humidity, the weather has been fantastic this week! I'd say Rainbow Dash did her job. lol

  22. If I had to choose a permanent age, it would have to be 21. Certain joints and stuff start aching when approaching 30. lol
  23. I use to argue with flat earthers online but I pretty much just ignore them these days. I think (hope) most are trolls, because a cheap refractor telescope from Walmart can easily disprove the flat Earth. The easiest experiment is to watch a sailboat or ship go over the horizon. No amount of magnification will bring it back.
  24. Thanks for the follow!

No worries at all, the pictures you post are really interesting!

  25. I've always liked how some words are spelled differently in British, such as Theatre, Centre, and Litre instead of the usual "-ter" ending in the U.S.
