Business people ruling the world behind the scenes?
The Historian replied to heavens-champion's topic in General Discussion
Businesses already do run the world and it's not even hidden. Corporate interests just buy politicians or get shills put in positions of power, or send lobbyists to "make sure everything is done fairly." When monied interests are allowed to interfere with government, the needs of the citizens are ignored for profit. This has happened many times before and will continue to happen because greedy fucks illegally buy their way into maintaining power! When things finally collapse under the weight of their own egos and hubris, the regular people - US - will pay the price. -
Looks like the landfall wasn't as bad as predicted, at least here in the US. The islands got buttfucked pretty hard though. But hey, at least there's days of warning when these things loom overhead. I live where the wind will getcha without warning.

I had a late lunch at Chipotle. Cause I gotta have them burrito bowls, y'all.

I used Firefox faithfully for ~18 years til the Quantum update broke half of my addons. I have slowly moved most of my use to Vivaldi. Not as good as Firefox used to be but with some CSS hacks, I can get multirow tabs. I can on Firefox too (and do actually) but the compatibility issues really pissed me right off. I only ever use Chrome for web testing anymore.

Games you have purchased recently
The Historian replied to Kyoshi Frost Wolf's topic in Media Discussion
I have to think for a moment since I just bought a little too much over the last few days. Recently, I've bought Ultima VIII (Windows), Zool (Windows), Malice for Quake (Windows), Jurassic Park (IBM compatibles), Bioforge (Windows), Omega (Atari ST), Auto Duel (Atari ST), Light and Darkness (Windows), KKND XTREME (Windows), Red Alert 1 (Windows 95 edition), SimCity 3000 (Linux), Panzer Dragoon (Windows), Maui Mallard (Windows), Polish language Tiberian Sun and Civilization: Call to Power (Windows), Euro Civ 3 CE (Windows), US Civ 3 CE (Windows), Civ 4 SE (Windows) and Temple of Apshai (C64). All in boxes of course. Like I said, a bit too much. xD -
what router/wireless access point do you use?
The Historian replied to DJPurplyPi3's topic in Media Discussion
I use a Cisco Enterprise-ish router. Not something you'd find in a huge business, but not a standard home router either. I don't like the crappy Comcast AP I have so I use that one for WiFi and such. -
gaming EA Games Makes Guinness Book Of World Records
The Historian replied to Denim&Venöm's topic in Media Discussion
That's because people are morons. Far, far worse companies exist, even in the game industry. EA is nowhere near "the worst." Even when EA was at their worst, the games I played from them were still as enjoyable as anything else I was playing at the time. Calling them the worst is a disservice to the things they do provide.- 28 replies

If EA qualifies as the worst company, you're not looking hard enough. There are companies that are worse than EA.- 28 replies

I got my hand slammed in a car door and broke some bones in my hand. That was a really fun time and by fun I mean it sucked.

I am hugely self-conscious. But, being transgender will screw you up big time. And I got bullied hard in school and that fucked me up permanently. While I've undone some of that damage, it's stuck with me and made me weary of what other people think.

Since I became an open transwoman, dudes have been hitting on me left and right. Kinda funny in a lot of ways and it makes me giggle. So I can sympathize with the OP. lol

technology Windows XP...how will you remember it?
The Historian replied to BrilliantVenture's topic in Media Discussion
Not with fond remembrance. XP was an absolute pile of garbage, even during its time. I spent more time cleaning malware infections off XP machines than any other reason when I did repairs. It had the security of a wet paper bag. -
Number of airplanes visible in your room?
The Historian replied to DubWolf's topic in General Discussion
No airplanes but I do have animu figurines instead. xD -
Longest period of time without sleep?
The Historian replied to DivineMist1000's topic in General Discussion
I broke the 72 hour mark many, many years ago. When you go that long without sleeping, things get super weird. I was hallucinating voices and hallucinating a cat walking around my basement. I do not have a cat, nor did I at the time. -
Right now, I'm thinking: "how in the fuck did 16 gigs of captcha data get stored here?"

I used to have some serious anger problems, but I've tempered them over the last 16 or so years. Now I have a really long fuse, but heaven help you if you get it to the end...

general Is there anything that you think that you like TOO much?
The Historian replied to AveryGamerDude's topic in General Discussion
Collecting boxed PC games. It's an obsession. Not to the point it's unhealthy per se, but I do spend a lot more on it than I really should. xD -
Will Trump make America great again?
The Historian replied to Megalomaniac's topic in General Discussion
The division is part of the game. They keep us fighting amongst ourselves so they can run off with all the fucking money. Either way, the people who loathe him and his administration are correct and those who praise him are brain dead sheep. There's a reason why so many despise this administration: they've done more to harm the people of the US than any administration in history. Even Nixon's administration wasn't this bad! Of course, I have a bit of a personal stake in a lot of this. What with transgender rights being under fire all the time and the potential for all LGBT people to be fired for that reason with no recourse. Have you not seen the insidious shit his administration has done?! What is it that they've done positively?! And does it outweigh the overwhelming damage they've done to the nation? Here's the unfortunate part: you're completely wrong. His administration is fucking terrible and I listed many reasons why. Can you justify your opinion? Because I really want to know how you find this absurdly criminal, corrupt administration as a positive. -
Thankfully, things went down a little better than that for me. I told my brother first and he was like "you need to be happy" and "you're still my sibling whether or not you're my brother or my sister." So... if things did go poorly with my parents, I could go live with my brother. It was a little tense up front right after I broke the news to my parents. Thank god I live near the Transgender Institute and I booked a few family therapy sessions to get everyone together so it all evened out. Cause if I'd been thrown out... well, let's just say I wouldn't be posting this right now. I've been transitioning since last October. Almost at a full year. A little exciting and terrifying all at the same time! The people who know won't bat an eye but those who don't... well... they're in for a real shock. o.o

health When Was The Last Time You Fell Ill?
The Historian replied to Venomous's topic in General Discussion
Not sure if this counts as "ill" or not, but I recently had a huge abscess removed from my back. Mostly healed now finally, meaning I can shower again. -
Depends on what I'm doing really. If it's for general purpose or gaming, I run Windows 10 Pro (Home is a fucking joke). If I need to setup a GUI-less server of some sort, RHEL or CentOS. If I want a server with a GUI, I use Fedora. If I switched to Linux over Windows, Mint with the Cinnamon environment. For other server tasks, I use Windows Server 2012 R2. Probably gonna switch to 2019 here soon tho. And I use Android-based mobile devices.

gaming Video game collection brag thread
The Historian replied to Evilshy's topic in Media Discussion
Let me think here. If I had to estimate, my PC big box collection is probably above 400 by this point. I have so many goddamn boxes that I don't have enough shelving! I don't have a great deal of super rare stuff but I have some decent things in my collection. I can't even pick any good highlights because I have a diverse collection! I have games ranging from Civilization to Quake, from Sam & Max to Soldier of Fortune, Command & Conquer to A10 Tank Killer and Diablo to SimCity. I have common games like the Call of Duty series to obscure things like Enchanted Scepters and Tanktics. I've got standard editions to special editions in Polish, Russian or Chinese. I've even got unofficial, shovelware addons in big boxes and in jewel cases. I've got promo discs, demo discs and esoteric things like a Teacher's Edition for SimCity Classic! I have games from the early 1980s to now, for multiple platforms and in multiple languages. Let's just say, I have a large collection of games, and it would be hard to really summarize all of it. xD
