  1. I'd say today went well. I got to do nothing and sit and tinker/be forced to start digging into linux more, along with the roll of sound deadening showed up for a few tractors so I can start on that now. Then it ended with an uneventful trip home with some equipment.

I had expected that the sound deadening foam would be vacuum packed and not be in a 6 foot tall box that's big enough around that you can't reach the other side...made me wonder what showed up when it came.

  2. Fun fact: I keep forgetting the giant red banner about this.

Other Fun Fact: Twenty some odd years ago, I cost about 5,000 to 10,000 bushels of HRSW(Hard Red Spring Wheat).

  3. So...what exactly is a "friend" compared to a "follower" on here?

I recall reading something about it but I can't seem to find it.

      Followers are your slaves.... Lol

I follow you now:yeahno:..... Slave part was a joke okay ...

      You sure about that?

That sounds like something a...follower would say.

  4. Carpenter: it's not going to rain, no need to cover the roof, I'll be back tomorrow to finish it. The plywood should shed it if it does.

14 hours later, here I am at 430 AM drying books.

Got just enough rain to leak through, not enough to do much else sadly .

  5. To the west about 50 miles: 640 acres of waist high corn was mowed down by grass hoppers in less than 2 days. You could see the clouds of them on the weather radars.

To the east about 150 miles: grasshoppers are eating the sisal twine off of the haybales or eating enough of the inside of the bale so that it falls apart.

Here: still no rain, but slightly cooler. Lots of little grasshoppers, enough so that it looks like water when you drive through a field or pick up a 6 foot round bale.

In the 1980s, the US Air Force took B-52s and C-130s and whatever else they had that would work and sprayed a large chunk of the state to try to get rid of them. It worked as they didn't really start becoming a problem until about 2010 or so and again now. It's a problem for them too as they're hard on jet engines...and fly pretty high up. In the 1930s they would cause plane crashes due to engine failures and not being able to see where they are going. It also trips the alarms on the nuclear missile silos, which then means they have to go and see, reset, and repeat.

Wheat is $9 a bushel but no one has anything that makes financial sense to harvest. Cattle are low too, due to high feed prices and everyone selling part or all of their herds. Oil and fuel are climbing for no apparent reason.

2021 to 2020: hold my beer.

So hopefully 2022 or 2023 is much better.

  6. So is the "90 days from fog is rain" thing a world wide thing or just a US and Canada thing?

Never heard it before, so maybe?

      @Splasheewell that is interesting then.

We had fog a few days ago which means late October about which either means our normal "Halloween Snow" or it will actually rain this fall, hopefully anyway. Usually it seems to be within a few days of 90 days.

  7. Well I think I'll turn in for the day as I swore I read the title of one as "What would happen to Equestria if Twilight Sparkle turned to Elvis ".

  8. And another.

All of it was even homesteaded at one time.

Of course, how one is to grow a crop, a requirement of a homestead patent, on that I haven't got a clue.

      Beautiful! :D

I want to see more pictures!

  10. Analog TV broadcasting ends today in the US for whoever cares. End of an era...for better or for worse.

    1. Splashee

      Splashee

In Sweden, it ended in 2003.

Analog things weren't that bad. They didn't cause bad things. Well, at least we still have radio left.

@Splasheehere it was mostly in 2011, iirc, but certain low power stations we allowed to run indefinitely, or until now.

When they shut down analog here, that was the end of any over the air TV here. Analog we would get a snowy picture and sound, but Digital nothing, aside from a pixelated picture every 30 seconds or so.

"5...4...3...2...1..Welcome to the Digital Era!" Followed by a loud pop and hiss and then the standard snowy screen and hiss and that was that.

    3. Splashee

      Splashee

For me, the analog era was a way to get the real time. News and programs were exactly on time in Sweden. But when it went digital, they stopped following the real time since different receivers buffers the digital stream differently. News sometimes started 2.5 seconds later that real time. Thankfully, we have radio clocks and GPS stuff now.

Better picture quality, but not at the exact time. It's a trade off.

  11. Happy Independence Day!

And as Murphy's law dictates, the day before I appear to have caught a cold, but the celebration will go on in my area with parade, a free meal, dances, bands,  and other activities,  but with the drought it sounds like no fireworks though.

  12. Well the Dark of the moon of the 6th of June has passed and not to long from now it'll be Noon in Arizona...

I guess I'll find out if anyone gets that reference.

  13. (Another forum I'm on is currently in the "brick in a washing machine phase"(Google it, its...interesting...and a decent way of describing how its going there, it's about at the "starts losing pieces" part.) And the owner has put the challenge out: don't like it? Make your own.)

"Highly customized, proprietary, and hand made forum software"

After 4 or so hours of searching, I found what that site runs on.

It was originally made in 1999/2000. The only updates it received were for security updates. The last time it was updated was 2011.

Somehow a forum website running on free 90s software, on windows server 2003/XP with 100k members has only been down once, and that was in 2007 when someone guessed the password and wiped it.

I think I'll go change my password now...as I can't believe it can be that secure now...I suppose it's a miracle it hasn't had trouble.

  14. Spring on the Northern Plains: when you have to mow the lawn...with a winter coat.

    On the 27th of May.

And it snows just a bit the night before.

All is well it appears, so far.

  15. Here's a dumb 3AM thought:

The next generation of MLP voiced entirely by...

    Spoiler

    Chuck Norris

Don't have a clue why it popped into my mind, but I found it kinda funny.

    1. Splashee

      Splashee

It would be more likely that the voice would be

      Spoiler

Dan Castellaneta making a "Chuck Norris" impression

      >_>

      Northern Star

      @Splashee

I was thinking more of him doing impressions of the characters, as in be being told to come up with their tone and voice and such.

An impression of an impression doesn't really seem to work, or from what I've seen anyways.

  16. Anyone here from or know of anyone from Alberta?

What's burning and how bad is it this time? We're getting your smoke and it smells like diesel and burning belts.

  17. Anyone else ses the trailer for Those Who Wish Me Dead

When I seen the commercial for it during Blue Bloods I thought it was a commercial for the Firewatch movie(which is supposedly still a thing)...I half wonder if they don't have some type of relation or if the firewatch part is just coincidental.

  18. Good sunset tonight, made for a decent picture, just too bad out name is cut into the steel and our yard is very recognizable, so for now here's this:

(If I can find a way to decently edit the main picture I'll post it, it really is a nice shot)

  19. Note to self: do not factory reset phone just switch to new phone.

Never realized how much crap has accounts and how many passwords I don't know.

  20. Remember the phone post about the screen? Now my phone is a Samsung ipod equivalent. No cellular service at all, no detecting any.

Slightly good news is that I think I know the problem: there is a very loud rattling sound coming from the general area of where the antenna plugs in. Bad news: I've never split/opened a smart phone, but I guess it's worth a shot and hopefully ifixit knows what they're doing and selling. Maybe that was my screen issue too. And usb port issue. It definitely would be nice just to be a few lose connections and nothing major.

  21. You sit and baby a thousand dollar phone for five years and it rewards you with a screen that wants to be a CRT with poor signal or wants to show you what everything would look like if you printed it off and stuck it in a south window for a few years.

In other words, I guess I will see: A. How long can you go on a failing Note 8 screen and/or B. How hard is it to replace the screen, battery, and USB/charging board and how hard is it to make it waterproof or C. How nice a Note 9 is after sitting for four years.

There's not even a crack in the screen yet and any drops have been onto soft surfaces or less than a foot.

  22. 88 brohooves...

Anyone else see where I parked my other silver machine, the one with the flux capacitor?

  23. Place your bets!

There is a 1% chance of precipitation for us today.

Will we get a downpour or will we get nothing?

Never seen a "1%" chance before.

    1. Snow

      Snow

      All on 99% no rain

    2. Evil Pink One

      Evil Pink One

      ...welp it rained...

      Northern Star

Well as far as I can tell, we did not get any. Atleast none made it to the ground anyways.

  24. 380 guests viewing? That's somewhat surprising.

You'll get used to it :mlp_laugh:
