  1. Last year: "I'll do custom work next year, itll be profitable with low fuel prices" (acquires equipment)

This winter: "looking good, this will be my year"

    Europe: "no its not".

I'll be spending approximately $3000 dollars a day, just on fuel this spring, IF prices stop here. I don't think they will. Usually it would be about $600 at the worst.

So I guess I will see how many places still offer credit, as I could run for about two weeks before I run out of money. I was planning on about 4 months worth of work.

  2. Ever wonder what a bar is like in the rural Dakotas at 6:30PM?

    Spoiler

No, you didn't, but since you went this far, here's what it's like in a nutshell:

(General conversations going on, about 15 people)

    "Hey what time is it?"

    "6:30 why-shit we're missing wheel, where's the remote?"

(Everyone frantically tears apart the bar looking for the TV remote)

    "Found it!"

    (Changes channel)

    "Good we haven't missed much"

(A half hour of sarcastic criticism and jokes about Wheel of Fortune later)

"Well they didn't win the big money, I better get going, see ya tomorrow "

"Yep, I better get going too"

    "Ya me too"

(Everyone leaves just to come back in an hour to have supper)

Welcome to the Dakotas, where Wheel of Fortune is prime television in the bars and worth panicking over missing it.

  3. Good luck and stay safe Ukraine. End it before it becomes WWIII.

  4. Happy "2's" day!

Also it's palindrome week, if using the month-day-2 digit year format.

So here is 2 IH 2+2's.

  5. Note to self: don't Google unknown actors, it'll either start good and go bad or start bad and get worse.

On a brighter topic; 466 content count, the DT(I)466 was one of the best engines ever made by IHC.

  6. 23 notifications? What'd I miss?

  7. Well it's the end of an era now I suppose, too bad it couldn't have went a bit differently.

  8. Woo! Shawn White made it.

Only took an hour of putting up with NBC though...

  9. One of the forums I'm usually on today is down, for unknown reasons like usual.

What I find hilarious  is every other similar forum of various sizes and topics varying from the same to "I guess you could call it related" have suffered a similar fate: everyone from that forum going on the others, asking about it being down, and giving it the hug of death in the process. I can't imagine how annoyed the ones who run the others must be, "you talk crap about my little site yet then you come here to complain about your site being down and take mine down with it?" Lol.

As a disclaimer: I haven't been able to access any of the others, aside from one that went temporarily read only with the explanation that it was being flooded by bored users from the down site.

It's not so bad, I had so much time on my hands after I got done with everything early I decided to take a nap.

Now its 4AM and I can't sleep, so 8 should be back on schedule for tomorrow lol.

  10. So do the servers undergo maintenance occasionally from about 11pm to 6am central?

I've noticed that on multiple occasions pictures don't load during that time.

It's not exactly "maintenance" per se but that sounds like our nightly backups could be hitting the drives too hard. Thanks for the report (and for tagging me @TheGleaner) - I'll pass it on to our opsponies.

  11. Our local station has either given up or is in denial it appears

  12. Satellite office: no

    Main office: yes

Headquarters: final word is whatever the other two say.

Me: time to look for a loop hole I guess.

Another "CDL Experience in a Nutshell" post.

  13. "Ok back into this 40' long space"

    "Uh, the truck is 65'"

"Well you can fail now or after you've tried it"

My CDL testing experiences in a nutshell.

  14. Google: "add your home and work address so you can commute faster and avoid traffic"

I don't think I can cross the yard any faster than I already do...and I am the traffic.

  15. Yep, this is one totally legitimate email lol.

  16. It's been a year.

    One year since I've joined.

I still question what I'm doing here, but oh well. A year ago I said "screw it" and joined...and realized a day or so later I had a typo in my email, so I joined again with a correctly spelt email.

420 "counted" posts. Who knows how many in the "count to a million" section.

I will say, this has been the most accepting forum I have joined, although it was a somewhat odd start.

If I recall correctly it was a music question that...an answer didn't exist for. A certain Swede worried about post count made a status update basically immediately for it, I had to start digging through forum settings,  and a mod moved my question around a few times until settling on a somewhat dead section. I somewhat got my answer and...well I'm still here, for some reason or another.

As you can tell, I'm not one for speeches or whatever you call this.

    Spoiler

I will say 2021 was one long year. Too damn long.

But it went by way too fast too.

I don't believe in karma but it sure gave a good argument for it.

That being said, this place was a welcome distraction, no offense intended. It's been...unaffected by world events, compared to other places online. It's quite nice.

I'm rambling so I'll quit here...for now anyways. Hopefully the next year can be better and this be less of a "welcomed distraction" and more of a "place I just go to".

  17. Anyone else watch the show Yellowstone ?

  18. So January 1 2022. Happy New Year!

2021...For me it'll probably, and hopefully, go down as the most mixed year I've lived through. From deaths not at all related to the thing to a deal I started way back in the fall of 2018 finally going through to a fire that if the wind had switched I would probably be typing this from the cab of a truck and covered in blankets and cold to winter finally returning, it could not be more mixed. 2022 seemed like it was so far away, even yesterday.

Hopefully one year from now, I can say there was a lot new in 22, and all, or at least most of it, was good.

On a different note, one year ago is when I really started looking at this place regularly and started thinking about making an account here.

  19. Well 2022 has made its debut,  so about an hour into 2022 in part of the world, I think I'll sign off until it's a few hours into 2022 in my part of the world.

So until then, Happy New Year and hopefully it's not just a slightly different rerun of 2020.

  20. I heard places in Western Canada got to -51C without the wind the other day. I wonder if that's a sign for the winter or just a one off?

Here we've gotten to -25F so far. With the wind -50.

  21. Either winter decided to show up after a 3 year absence or the DOT and Highway Patrol got soft...

They said they would probably close the purple too. Red=closed, candy can stripe= "no travel advised" and probably closing soon, and purple means it's too deep for your standard car usually.

  22. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

...unless its morning or afternoon wherever you are, then good morning and good afternoon.

      Well that didn't work either...

Perhaps Adobe is trying to tell me something...like get a computer that isn't 10 years old...

30 days is 720 hours by the way. So the estimate is about 89 days.

Which for a 9 hour video seems a little overkill.

  24. I still wonder what they were thinking 80 years ago with Pearl Harbor.
