  1. Thank you, not sure about majestic; this picture made me realize that I need to do something about her eyes (the intention is fairly on target but something still feels off) and just need to do more background practice. I realized I don't really know how to the unicorn magic effect properly. I will try figuring that out later on, but this is going to be the last practice picture I'm doing before I move to Tucson, AZ from Champaign, IL. "Huh... someone must be stealing off my 'medicine', it's gone already." I'm not trying to promote.. a habit of drinking; she has that thing for a reason and it just popped into my mind. And yes, she's old; for a lore-reason. Since one of the person asked for her biography, I will just reveal little bit about her. Main reason is because I'm trying to figure out what to do with this character, I've made her as part of my character development experiment and because of that there's quite a huge story involved with her; I would rather withhold some of her information for that reason. Name: Silvermist Age: Old Personality: Eccentric, calm, perfectionist, often-lost-in-thought, pragmatic Special Mention: Suffers from a physical disability
  2. 1.Do you believe in an afterlife? From a logical perspective, it is impossible to make an absolute judgment over whether afterlife exists or not; since no man can be an expert at such subject. My main focus is to make use of one life that I've been obviously granted with to the fullest, self-education/expanding self-capability as a goal my life and to continue embarking a self-made quest to understand the meaning of self. If an afterlife exists and there comes a time when I have to move on, then I will deal with a new situation when that happens. 2.Are you a religious person and if so what does your specified religion state about death? There may be a reason to believe that god doesn't exist if the definition of a divine being is somewhat close to the Ancient Greek/Egyptian type, but if the definition of god is a being who cannot be comprehended by our mental capability, then it becomes an impossibility to disprove such being and be 100% sure. Therefore this was the conclusion I came up with: I will not make any judgment over whether an afterlife exists or not, or whether a god exists or not. I will simply live my life making decisions and take full responsibility and accept any consequences over what may happen as a result of my actions. If the afterlife or god exists and there comes a time where I have to answer for what I've done during my mortal life; then I will stand firm and answer to my obligation; but I do not have to answer to those who believe in religion. 3. Are you scared of death/oblivion? Life can be incredibly fragile, we can experience a sudden and abrupt end to our life without any warning. After we realize that general idea and realize that we are only granted a single chance to live our life. Then we reach a point where we have to make decision over how we want to live our life. It is anyone's freedom to choose whether we want to be depressed over such fact or come to a realization that even during a moment of weakness, there is an opportunity to become strong, an opportunity to become something more than what we are. So I have no reason to fear death, but I sincerely despise pain; but sometime we must learn from feeling pain or fight through it if it is necessary. ...I wander what happens after death though? I'm genuinely curious about it. But I have other shits to try while I'm alive so I will focus on what I can do currently instead of wasting it away like a moron.
  3. I prefer stories that contain a mental message the author is trying to argue across a story. If its a fanfiction, then my expectation is that an author should stay true to the original universe, character and theme. However that doesn't mean that the author can't alter the original canonical universe slightly to fit into his/her fanfiction. I treat any kind of literature as just an extension of a mental argument that an author is trying to express. That doesn't mean I don't enjoy a completely absurd and out of character fanfiction however.. some are rather amusing to read. But I generally do not like any grimdark stuff since most I see from those fictions is a very immature expression of an author's frustration with his/her current life or just some random teenagers venting their hormone-driven rage through killing off innocent characters or just make them suffer in general.
  4. No, I do everything from scratch in the photoshop; I use charcoal large smear 4~6pt brush for conceptual underdrawing then use hard round brush to do fine detail stuffs. Charcoal brush is nice because it lets me bypass my perfectionist tendency so I can focus on getting the basics right; dynamic force, directions, proportions etc. I have got to learn illustrator though; it takes such an ungodly amount of time to do these just by using the pen tool. Edit: Oh god, I just found another minor thing that makes me cringe.
  5. You are right on the wrinkle, but that's just how her wings look like; she has a darkblue/silver end on her wingtip feathers. This is my current work-in-progress, I've been stuck with this one since I have a plan to use her in a large background; possibly looking down from a very high altitude on a grassy plane with some clouds and canyons. But least on this picture one you can see her color schematics. She's supposed to be incredibly pale compared to ponies in MLP series. Edit: This is supposed to be a very younger version of her. And no, her hair does not defy gravity unlike two certain alicorns in the original series.
  6. Thank you, still there are things on this picture that makes me cringe badly. Add: Huh, that's strange; I never noticed an odd positioning of the eye reflections. I'm going to have to fix that later; I wonder if moving the eye around just to figure out a perfect placement have caused it.
  7. Hello, new to the forum here. I've started this around 2am last night and finished it around 8pm; considering that I slept for 5~6 hours inbetween and screwed around for possibly 2~3 hours; this was a major test in patience. Turns out that my patience got the best of me since I've just decided to rehash a very tiny collection of cloud vectors I've used some time ago and decided to omit couple of her objects that actually was supposed to be there. I do not like how this picture turned out; I'm going to spend some time studying over how artists in MLP series do the close-up background portion by taking more references so I can get something out of it. Perhaps it was my fatigue but I've ran amock with those rocks and it just has way too much detail for how the series generally treats the background; I want to be faithful to the original art-style of the series while providing my own two-cents. I suppose you learn few everytime you do something. This was done as part of my tackling schematic to deal with much larger background picture I've been working on for some time. The black/white underdrawing is what I've used as a baseline for this; I only do tracing to learn proportions and features about certain characters but I try to do everything from scratch when I'm doing something original. http://einsicht12.deviantart.com/
  8. I see there alot quite alot of people are on this website just by the reaction, haha. I will lurk around in main forum soon enough. Good to meet you guys.
  9. Hello to all fellow MLP fans, I've been a fan of the animation series for quite some time but didn't really took a serious interest with it until I've started doing vector practices. undergraduate student with major in physics. I've decided to join this forum to get to know others who shares a simialr interest in the series and to find those whose willing to come to my deviantart account for any purposes which includes constructive criticism. Aside from tracing vector practise which I do from time to time for studying purpose, I've been trying to do everything from a scratch; my goal is to figure out a way to economically make a story out of my work in a foreseeable future. Anyway, good to meet you guys and I sincerely hope to meet new friends. http://einsicht12.deviantart.com/
