I find the evolution of a song on a website such as this or even on youtube fascinating. The way the same song can be remixed in so many different ways and move so far away from its original genera and sounding I find amazing, and its great to have the talent of so many artists able to do there magic on one song! So here is a great example of it using "Monster" by Meg & Dia (with a pony example at the bottom).

I chose this song initially because the contrasts are so massive!:

    Original:

The original song was in fact the last version of the song I discovered (crazy isn't it?) As you can hear above, the song is initially very rock/metal esc. It already has a female singer (point this out now because with some of the remixes the voice distortion can make a male voice sound more female). It has a nice pace/speed (I'm not going to claim I can guess accurately the BPM but to me it feels 90-100 BPM) which is slow "ish" (bear this in mind for the next remixes). So what may surprise you is the massive jump to the next genera of the remix:

    Dubstep:

Isn't this song just so different from the original? I mean you can hear thats its the same piece of music but its so different! It keeps the same pace as the original song, but the voice distortion and addition of wubs and beats change the song drastically. But wait till you hear the next remix:

    Nightcore/trance:

This remix is a remix of the original with elements of the dubstep version added such as a bassy beat. Its also had extra voices added and instrumental elements added as well as being sped up very slightly, but not as significantly as most (credit where credit is due, the artist kept the original pitch of the singing). 1/2 way through, however, it becomes something thats unrecognisable to the original!

And then even the remix got "remixed" in a sense or in this case largely just sped up into a Nightcore
    dubstep remix!

    Can it be? Nightcore/Dubstep!:

The final remix is a remix of the nightcore/trance remix. It conforms much more heavily to trance with a much higher speed/BPM and high pitch voice distortion. The dubstep elements are the same as the last but basically sped up. Probably my fav version of the song apart from the original, it just makes me wants to get up and rave! Isn't it crazy how far we have come from the original? Much fast, higher pitched voices and it gives off a completely different feeling. The original makes you feel an under the surface sadness, where as the final song there is not hint of that at all! Its much happier and bouncy, and the only element of the feelings the original expressed are maybe a slight menacing tone, but not the sadness original expressed.

Overall, I just wanted to show how 1 song can come to produce so many great remixes from it and spread to entirely different generas from the one it was originally. I also find it amazing how the different remixs can make you feel different emotions despite being from the same song. A song that I feel the remixes do this better then anything is Avast my Ass:

The Many Avast's of my As:

Now this phenomenon of constant remixes of an original song and then remixes of remixes until something completely different form the original is also seen in music done by my little pony artists or as I like to call it "ponystep" (I will use this most its just easier)!

    Original:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvFNU_vN5JI

    Remix 1:

    Remix 2:

    Remix 3:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIg8Vs-MVZA
    Remix 4:

Just as with monsters, there are so many remixes and versions of the original song (and even the original remixes) that they vary wildly from the original song and even cover several genera. This once again allows the same "initial" song to give over a varying range of different feelings through the remixes!

At some point I hope to illustrate this further with more examples from the pony world (smile smile smile anyone?)!

    Thanks for reading !

I will probably do more on song evolution and remixing in the future! If you have any good candidates please let me know them in the comments!:

So, as promised, I said on a recent topic I made just before I went camping that I would write a short blog entry when I got back about my experiences.

Firstly lets set the scene; I was camping with my Christian Union at a Christian conference camp that had roughly 1000 campers. The weather was very sunny on the first 3 days of the 5 day camping with overcast/light drizzle on the last few days.

Now I just want to say, overall It was loads of fun ! As people on the forums had promised, when you are with friends you can have a great time without really having things planned! Al thought we did have most of the day filled up with football and worship/seminars, we still had a good 4-5 hours of spare time and most of this we just sat around enjoying each others company !

So here are some of the funny moments: One of my friends was trying to cook his pasta on a small single burner (the type where you pierce the gas canister) and decided to not hold the pan and look away from 10 seconds. Before we knew it his pasta was all over the floor and he had burned a massive hole in his tea towel from the flame! Luckily he had some spare pasta, but it was still really funny!

One night we also had a "sing off" with the Scottish and Welsh campers to see who could sing there national anthem the loudest! It was 11pm and not everyone appreciated it to say the least, not to mention the singing was awful ><!

    Worst parts:

Feeling dirty and smelly most of the time is not fun for me. We had 2 shower block's that where rammed unless you skipped out activities (which I ended up doing every day so I could get a shower a day). Admittedly this is really only an issue when you wake up/after playing sport. The lack of light at night can also be annoying when your playing cards by torchlight and can't read the cards ><!

The amount of wasps was unreal. We ignored them the first day, but by the second we had 20 flying around us at all times while eating and something had to be done. We declared war on them making a variety of traps and using everything from water bottles to forks to kill them, casualties where taken (I got stung twice when I was just standing around not caring about them ) but eventually but the last 2 days we had thinned them out enough to eat food without being harassed to badly !

    Best Bits:

Being with 40 people in almost a family like atmosphere where we shared everything had had great banter. Had 4 people in my 5 man tent, and we had some great conversations and times together! We also had a real Chinese chippy just down the road, so one day I got chips which where AWESOME! Also learning loads about Christianity and God, and worshipping with 1000 other people (like a mini festival) was great! Lots of good memories where made, and bonding was done with others a barely knew before the camp !

    Verdict?:

I wouldn't say I enjoy the camping part of camping, but I would most likely do it again to be with friends and have a great time! If you prepare pre cooked food and make sure you have simple things to cook and are well prepared, it can make it easy and even at time enjoyable!

Having a stand up tent is a must for me though, and I would look to get some odourless deodorant (both wasps stings happened just after I put it on :/) and taking the memory foam mattress was a great Idea !

Thanks for reading, I hope you found it enjoyable!

Wow, this is my first blog post in aaaaages! I can't believe it's been so long! I felt like it was time for another blog post, and since not much is going on in the MLP world and I have nothing else I'm really interested in enough to talk about right now I decided to check out this song, enjoy !

Icon for Hire are a more recent band. I thoroughly enjoyed there first album "scripted". The song Cynics and Critics was released as a preview of there upcoming album (name of which is not released yet) and comes out in a few months time !

    So here it is:

Now I may be a bit biased, but LOVE this song.

I have listened to it for an hour straight, to see if I could find any flaws in it or anything that just starts to annoy me and currently I haven't.

The backing music really fits, and the alternating fast and slow singing sections (making it almost impossible to learn the words to the verses) fit together seamlessly giving the music added depth.

The mix of guitar and bass and electronic music is something that they did very well in the first album, and I think this song is a prime example of how in this genre the merging of the 2 styles of sounds should be done. The way the rythm of the song changes from the verse to chorus is also something I really like, keeping the song "fun" and not repetitive and boring as some song are..

The singing varies from rock singing, to very bouncy almost reciting of the lines to straight talking. Once again I feel they merge the different types together really well (aided by the perfect backing music for each moment) to really give a great alternation of styles/sounds through the song to keep in interesting all the way through.

Overall, its a great showcase of the merging of different styles of singing and electronic/classic rock.
With great sections to air guitar to, as well as parts truly great fun to sing to it makes the whole song a joy to listen to.

I would give it a 9/10 and recommend everyone who likes rock music to listen !

Thanks for reading, feel free to leave feedback!

    @sylentmana posted today:

"Because Celestia didn't make Twilight and alicorn. Twilight more or less "attained enlightenment" about the nature of friendship and ascended. Celestia only guided her to that point. She's been grooming Twilight to be her replacement. Even Lauren Faust said that she always intended for Twilight to replace Celestia. The current writers thought her ascending was the best way for her to do that. Twilight earned her wings, so to speak. Also, you may be taking this whole thing way to seriously."

And this got me thinking about the spoilers we saw at comic con depicting the return of "evil Luna" as I'm going to call her (In my head cannon the comics showed nightmare moon being being "freed" and even defeating the nightmare forces). Twilight is seen saying "where have you can Celestia dissapeared to".

    My thought:
Just as sylentmana said," Even Lauren Faust said that she always intended for Twilight to replace Celestia". Maybe this is the time where they decide to kill Celestia. This would definately cause for an interesting turn of events within the world of equestria, and It would defiantly answer all of my questions as to what Twilight would now have to do with her new title.

Thought this is probably to dark to be in a children's TV show, I have no doubt that Celestia will have been captured in S4E1 and Twilight will have to get her back some way. I predict this will happen weather or not the whole return of evil Luna" is a thing or a mere dream of flashback (as some have suggested), because its a great chance for Twilight to show off that, if needed she can rule equestria and that she proves Celestia right in giving her this new responsibility.

So ending on a more sensible note, I can't wait to find out if my prediction holds true . We only have a few months left now till the opening episodes, and personally I know it's going to be a long hard wait with many more wacky prediction between now and then. I hope I don't lose the plot before the next season ....

Today the film Pacific Rim was released in the cinema and I had the good fortune to go and see it!

Bellow if the youtube trailer (to give an overview and synopsis).

    Non- Spoiler Review

Now I make an effort to see as few trailer as possible before a film and not read any reviews whatsoever if I like the film just from the trailer. This way my first impressions are the most accurate and I don't have any thought about the film in my head (such as twists).

My initial thought from the trailer was "awesome mek's fighting big monsters", and I personally would have been happy if this was all that the film contained.

The film lives up to this, and the fight scenes are very well done. They do not feel "rushed" as many fight scenes in this type of film feels. The film does a brilliant job of making both the monsters and the Meks feel "massive", giving a much more realistic feel to both of them and increasing immersion within the scenes.

They are not to long and not to short, and considering I saw this in 2D and not 3D, awe inspiring spectacles, whilst not containing ridiculous explosions.

The film also contains a storyline which is much deeper the in the impression the trailer gives. While not giving anything away, relationships are explored in depth between the main characters, and even I had a little bit of liquid pride at certain parts.

Overall the acting in the film is good, there are one or two moments where I felt like more feeling could been draw from the acting and that is what holds this film back from getting a perfect score for me. I will add that these parts are maybe only once or twice in the whole film.

The music is good throughout and on the most part I didn't notice it (which is great, it didn't detract form the film) and when I did it was only at the very end in the credits and it was very well composed and will be getting listened to on youtube a few times tonight.

GLaDOS also makes an appearances throughout which is AWESOME! (she has the funniest line in the film)

    Conclusions:

Overall, the trailer is lived up to with awe inspiring mek vs monster fight scenes. The film also contains an immersive story that really holds meaning, exploring relationships in depth and giving the characters meaning.

My Score: 8.5/10 - a must see for anyone into this genre and a film I would be happy to re-watch.

So, being a UK brony I had to wait a fairly long time before I could see a decent version of the film of youtube (I decided to wait until I had a good copy to see before I gave my opinions on it) and for the most part I have not seen anything about the film apart from a few adverts that where on reddit.

    Before the film thoughts:

When I first heard about the film I think my initial reaction was one of being a little excited but also very nervous. I have never been one for humanized ponies, and although I always wanted a MLP film the fact that it was going to be set in a human world didn't get me going. Despite this I still really wanted to see the film, after all, they made 3 great seasons and some of those had pretty controversial finales that everyone thought would suck and where totally awesome (S2's springs to mind).

    First Impressions:

The way the first parts of the film went where very good. The story and the characters where brought in nicely and the whole pony world to human world lore was very nicely done and easy to digest. The humanized versions of the ponys where very good and seeing everypony as a human character did give me a bit of a rush as we went from place to palce seeing them all.

    The story:

The story does is not amazingly initiative or new in any way. It borrows what alot of past films have done from within this genera, and yes you can easily say it was very "cliché". It borrows a lot of common girly chick flick esc themes. Despite this, the fact that it is basically the characters we all know and love and uses some new unique to MLP references and devices to make it different enough to watch and enjoy. Just like the show, it never approaches being to girly (although I will admit it is more stereotypical in what they do then the show) to be watched and enjoyed by all.

The songs where good, as well but maybe not as good as the show songs for me.

The ending was a lot better then I expected (a little bit off when no one seems to realise whats going on and seems to think its normal but w/e).

    Final thoughts:

Overall it's a good film, that can be enjoyed by all (although I think outside of people who have watched the show it will be hard to watch for those outside of the targeted demographic). I will probably watch it multiple times over the next few years.

If I had to give it a score out of 100 then I would say 65/100, while having a very predictable story line it is still fun to watch and has some great funny moments and holds true, overall, to the original character design and flow of the TV show despite being a film.

The image with this post is amazing. I know it may not be the best piece of art in terms of the way it's drawn or colored, but it cheered me up so much when I saw it a few days ago that I just had to post it in my next blog (originally seen here: http://mlpforums.com/topic/55222-fat-stegosaurus/), thank you to @JesstroidPrime .

In the last week it has really been confirmed to me that I want to stay on this forum for as long as possible. The willingness from people to listen to others points of view and not just bash is amazing.

I have also seen people give the most amazing advice over @The everfree forest, the love and kindness people have shown to others (be it through text or the time spent trying to help people with issues) is overwhelming.

Thank you for making MLP forums so much fun to visit!

Now on to more stuff about my life (lol).

Easter is upon us! now with my family being christian this is a very busy time of year for us! It's almost as important as Christmas so I';m looking forward for the whole family coming around on Sunday where we celebrate Jesus's resurrection ! I think this year we are also inviting some people who are currently living alone as well so it should be extra fun !

I am also a massive sucker for chocolate and especially creme eggs :3. I love those things so much it's unreal! hopefully I wont make myself to sick from all the egg's that no doubt will disappear within 1-2 days of me getting them

So to everyone, have a great Easter weekend!

PS. also looking at making a dota2 team, PM me if your interested!
  8. Planty
Very aptly the picture this time shows Discord at his most chaotic.

He has defiantly been over England over the last year! Drought, then straight into the second wettest year on record!

But more recently making it snow in march. When crocuses and daffodils started to sprout and flower i thought it was defiantly spring time, but oh know, the last 2 weeks have seen freezing cold weather and random outbreaks of snow. In my (somewhat short) lifetime I've never seen anything like it!

I also wanted to mention how I think I'm going to re watch the entire MLP:FIM again (7/8 time) over the Easter holidays. I really want to re watch season 3 but I can't bring myself to at the moment (deadlines and what not). For me it just lacked something the other season had (admittedly I was rushing to watch it most of the time having had more things to do from being at uni). I started to feel like they where maybe pandering to the brony fandom a bit more where as the storylines for the first 2 seasons where made purely for the younger fans and where just brilliant anyways. Some of the episodes felt like they where trying to get a 40min long episode into 20.

However, I will not make proper judgement until I have re-watched it all again! I want to take my time with it and try to enjoy it properly like I did when I first wasted S1 and S2 (which I loved so much) !

Today I once again start a new blog.

This one will hopefully be my last attempt, all in all I've missed being around on this forum but life has gotten in the way (recently moving to university) and I've been unable to keep up to date on all pony and forum stuff!

I made this blog just so that I can randomly post about things to do with my life and what I think on stuff rather then having a direct focus of my blog. I'm hoping that this will make it more enjoyable to write and less of a chore

It also helps my dyslexia to write stuff online, especially as the best critics for grammar and spelling can normally be found here

And yes, this is a cool story!
  10. Planty
    Well not exactly,

    today I took a particular interest to 2 thread's ;

the first was: Human's in equestria your first action [http://mlpforums.com...on/#entry715201 ]

and I learned that is we just instantly turned up in equestria one day then your safest bet is probably to sneak to the library and find twilight to help fix things (and hope she doesn't want to perform scientific tests on you :S)!

Although I have to admit I would love to try and find Pinkie pie to she her reaction and watch her run around screaming! (providing I didn't get found by Lyra first, I'm not sure how far she would go to get her hooves on a pair of hands!)

secondly I also discovered that Rarity's worse fear is flying whales!!!!

and I have to say that I wouldn't blame her!!! Imagine if it landed on you!!! That would be one very UN-PRETTY mess for someone to have to clean up

  11. Planty
    So, from this thread:

    http://mlpforums.com/topic/30969-can-it-rain-in-cloudsdale/#entry718275

I have seen that in fact, no it is unlikely it can rain in cloudsdale (but they can make tornadoes ).

I guess this is kind of a shame for them, and probably why you don't see many plants in clouds dale either

It must be great to be in the sun all the time I guess they have to be as it must be cold in the sky if it's anything like the world we live in.

Otherwise they would all freeze to death, in fact I wonder if they have season's in clouds dale? I'm guessing they must have as the weather they experience on the ground must have some sort of an effect on cloudsdale!

(this is my first real blog post please let me know how im doing/how to improve )

    Happy Plant
