movies/tv First Trailer For Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
sampsoninc916 replied to Orablanco Account's topic in Media Discussion
There really should be no reason whatsoever that people are complaining about a crossguard lightsaber and a black stormtrooper in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. I thought the crossguard saber looked cool, and I don't mind a black stormtrooper, or whoever this character is (never saw Attack the Block). Stories have persisted that the crossguard saber comes from the expanded Star Wars universe but is rarely seen, and that stormtroopers are meant to be clones of Jango Fett. I gotta love the ridiculous memes that came with the crossguard saber, including the Swiss Army lightsaber, plus this: http://pixelkitties.deviantart.com/art/Discord-Of-The-Sith-497751336 It's not as bad as the prequels, but these minor little details are something that fans shouldn't complain about. Maybe the "Attack the Block" guy is one of the new protagonists and that the additional crossguard thingies in the new lightsaber are a different kind of laser that is solid and doesn't cut anything, including your hand. It's too early to tell, so why complain now? I don't think they have lead lined refridgerators in this universe, so they can't nuke the fridge. Plus, Jar Jar Binks was killed during the Great Jedi Homicide in Episode III (although never seen but fans assume), so that can ease your nerves. So many theories, so little time. -
general media Hasbro: Monopoly (excuse the pun) or Competitor
sampsoninc916 posted a topic in Media Discussion
Each day I look at Hasbro, especially around this time of year, Christmas, and I see a company that seems to have taken control over almost every major toy property out there. According to a CNN Money video posted on Equestria Daily, Mattel is lagging behind Hasbro, and they emphasize what seemingly feels like the only two toy companies out there. Lego seems to be doing well without being owned by either Hasbro or Mattel. Remember back in the 90s when Microsoft seemed to be taking over the computer world? I'm starting to wonder if Hasbro is trying to do the same thing in this day and age, buying up every successful toy company. They even said in the same CNN Money that Hasbro, with it's Disney licensed properties, might as well be a Disney company. I can remember that Disney was in talks to buy Hasbro two years ago, but they never bought Hasbro. I believe the ponies helped with that. Earlier this month, Hasbro wanted to buy the struggling Dreamworks Animation, but Disney stopped them from being a competitor. You should offer your own opinions on this subject. Is Hasbro a Monopoly (excuse the pun, because Monopoly is owned by Hasbro) or are they a competitor to other toy companies. I have several listed here: Mattel, Jakks Pacific, Spin Master, Jazwares Toys, Thinkway Toys, Playmates Toys, Lego, Wham-O, Funrise, Funko, McFarlane Toys (adult action figures), Bandai, Takara Tomy, Duncan (mainly Yo-Yos). Do you think that the line ends there with Hasbro controlling everything (exaggeration), or will Hasbro be only one of several toy companies competiting against each other. Matter of fact, 3D printing has enabled folks to be their own toy company, believe it or not. 3D Printing and Prototyping companies have popped up recently, even the fans are making their own pony merch. Consider Shapeways a toy company, among other 3D printing companies. -
The reason why I ask this stupid question is in Miracle on 34th Street, they dumped a bunch of letters on a judge's desk to provide evidence that Kris Kringle is Santa Claus. But that was 1947. This is now. Most of our written communications come from emails and social network messages. I asked Mom this stupid question, and she said that you would just flood the judge's email inbox. I asked Dad the same question, and he said that judges usually don't have a specified email address as a dumping ground for evidence. He knows this because he's worked on installing an electrical system in a courthouse. It's like that same visual from 1947 can't be matched with today's technology. Sure, celebrities don't give out their private contact information, so the best way to contact them is through their agent, where you can send them a picture for the celebrity to sign. But other than that, how can one even provide that same visual from the old days of 1947 if technology has made leaps and strides? A bunch of printed papers would work, but letters in envelopes? Maybe not.

Equestria Girls is primarily a spin off franchise. We should have a real movie distributed in theaters worldwide to go up against giants such as Disney, Pixar, and Dreamworks. The movie I desire and want to make myself will have much of what makes the original show great, the Mane 6 in the, well, main roles, and a new character to join the cast, a green stallion named Emerald Wishes (voiced by me) that the Mane 6 along with the alicorn princesses help reach out to with the magic of friendship, building him back up, of course a daunting first time task for the Mane 6. You see, Emerald Wishes is this character who was a student of Princess Celestia's and felt like she was a second mother to him, after his real parents died under mysterious circumstances (he witnessed their death as a colt, so he has a secret). After being invited to the Royal Wedding, he overhears that babble about Twilight Sparkle not being invited to the wedding, a character that he is madly in love with, and thinks in his exaggerated mind that Twilight's closest buds have betrayed her. Things don't get any better after he witnesses Queen Chrysalis knock Princess Celestia unconscious whilst defending her country, and believes that Chrysalis killed her (heck, if your mother or father was knocked out whilst trying to protect you, wouldn't you feel the same way?). Attempting to flee from the horror, he steps into a magic mirror which transports him to the human world (not like Equestria Girls, but the real, live action, human world with everything from New York to Tennessee to Georgia to Texas to Utah and finally to California.) There he gains more power and magic going back and forth from Equestria to America and learning all the ins and outs of the human world over the course of 12 years. After 12 years, he comes back to Equestria fully trained and ready to kill Queen Chrysalis and her entire changeling race, only to eventually discover that not only was he wrong about Twilight's betrayal and Celestia's death, but also that revenge and violence is not the way and that friendship is the strongest magic (Should I just accept that in the fictional cartoon land of Equestria friendship is the strongest magic?) I want a movie like this to have so many of the elements that we have come to love in the show. Right now the show itself is writing my movie or Hasbro's movie. Hope that no one is offended about my brief bio of the character Emerald Wishes. He's a character that learns that friendship is magic, and the Mane 6 have to cope with the task of sharing that magic with him and make him "sparkle and shine". One time while posting on this forum one of you stated something about Hasbro not wanting me to have my Emerald Wishes character as an autistic pony, because they wouldn't want to take a risk or do daring things like I do.

general media How on earth do these folks get the cosplay costumes?
sampsoninc916 posted a topic in Media Discussion
The length that some of these people go to make cosplay costumes of their favorite comic book, TV show, cartoon, movie, video game, etc. is absolutely insane. I was browsing photos from Comic Con 2014 and I found that one costume ended up being a Xenomorph Alien that looked like it came from the Stan Winston Creature Shop. Another costume was a walk around Disneyland style costume of Olaf the Snowman from Frozen. Heck, at DragonCon of 2012 I saw that one person cosplayed as Iron Man and his suit looked so authentic it looked like it jumped out of the movie. I'm starting to assume that these guys are skilled craftsmen and craftswomen who make the costume themselves. Cosplaying as Cheese Sandwich will be basic. I have a yellow polo shirt, but the wig will be the difficult part. Trying to assemble the materials for Big Macintosh costume may be easier said than done. Being Kristoff from Frozen is more likely for me than being Prince Hans because Prince Hans princely duds are far more expensive than Kristoff's snow mountaineer outfit. My mom one time helped my brother cosplay as Link from The Legend of Zelda for Halloween. Since he works at Peace Love Pizza, and has a red and white hat, he just needs to put a Pokemon League logo on the hat, get the white shirt, blue vest, and jeans, and then he can cosplay as Ash Ketchum for Halloween. As for me, I'm more experienced in computers and technical stuff than I am at artistic stuff. Of course, I do write, voice act, edit, and create basic visual effects, and I have drawn cartoons before, but nothing of a high Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks caliber will come from me. I never really sewed before, that's why Mom always helps me get the right materials to cosplay as the character I choose to cosplay as for Halloween. Last year, I was Doctor Who with a fez and mop. This year, I may create a cosplay of Cheese Sandwich or Kristoff. Lord Tirek is more difficult and elaborate, and so is Prince Hans. -
Yes, this is a cast for a MLP animated movie in theaters. For some reason a lot of animated movies seem so obsessed with having their characters be played by celebrities. I prefer to cast real stars that have been acting for years, know their way around any script, and above all, sound totally cool. Most animated movies only cast whoever is popular in the current day among kids. I don't want to do that. Count the number of times you have seen a trailer for an animated movie advertising the fact that celebrities voice the characters. Rio 2 has Bruno Mars, and Bruno Mars never really had any acting experience at all. Compare this to Liam Neeson, who has been acting ever since 1980 and has such a great voice.

Sure Equestria Girls is becoming some sort of franchise for Hasbro and is getting two sequels, one coming out this fall, but I think it's about time someone with a real passion for both MLP:FIM and 2D animation stepped up and made a MLP movie that is not Equestria Girls. How hard is it exactly to get something in 4,000 plus theaters? Lionsgate has no trouble with that considering the prevalence of the Hunger Games franchise, but My Little Pony is also a franchise. I feel that I should make a MLP movie. Here is my dream cast for the movie I dream to make (under the guidance of Hasbro it will probably be different): (Princess) Twilight Sparkle – Tara Strong Rainbow Dash/Applejack – Ashleigh Ball Pinkie Pie/Fluttershy – Andrea Libman Rarity/Princess Luna/Mrs. Cake – Tabitha St. Germain Spike/Mayor Mare – Cathy Weseluck Princess Celestia/Cheerilee – Nicole Oliver Applebloom – Michelle Creber Sweetie Belle – Claire Corlett Scootaloo – Madeleine Peters Big Macintosh – Peter New Zecora – Brenda Crichlow Shining Armor – Andrew Francis Princess Cadence – Britt McKillip Diamond Tiara – Chantal Strand Snips – Lee Tockar Snails – Richard Ian Cox Discord – John de Lancie Trixie/Queen Chrysalis – Kathleen Barr Cheese Sandwich – Weird Al Yankovic Derpy Hooves – Grey Delisle Doctor Whooves – David Tennant Emerald Wishes – Jordan White (me) Prince Oblivion – Benedict Cumberbatch Star-Swirl the Bearded – Ian McKellan Undecided character – James Rolfe Undecided character – Doug Walker Undecided character – Mathew Buck Undecided character – Sean Prendergast Undecided character – Tom Hanks Undecided character – Chuck Norris Undecided character – Temple Grandin Undecided character – Idina Menzel Undecided character – Morgan Freeman Undecided character – Alison Brie Undecided character – Bryon Cranston Undecided character – Liam Neeson Undecided character – Arnold Schwarzenegger Undecided character – Michael Caine Undecided character – Christopher Walken Undecided character – Julie Andrews Undecided character – Marsha Hunt Undecided character – Lauren Bacall Red Fraggle (cameo) – Karen Prell Boober Fraggle (cameo) – Dave Goelz Wembly Fraggle (cameo) – Steve Whitmire Mokey Fraggle (cameo) – Kathryn Mullen Gobo Fraggle (cameo) – Matt Vogel What do you think of my choices?

Has the show run out of ideas for villains?
sampsoninc916 posted a topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I seem a little worried. The only new villain that's really appeared on this show in the new season is Mane-iac, and she was just a comic book character in some enchanted comic book. The only villain that affected anything in Season 4 was supposedly Discord, and the only reason Nightmare Moon showed up was because it was a flashback with animation that would make the godfather of feature animation himself, Walt Disney, proud. For some time after I viewed the Comic Con animatics, I was thinking that Nightmare Moon really was going to come back, yet instead it was a flashback, so Nightmare Moon was just a one time thing. After the 9 episodes that have aired so far in Season 4, I'm starting to think that the show is running out of ideas for villains. Actually, that's my question. Has the show run out of ideas for villains or are new ones coming up in future episodes? -
There are boy scouts and girl scouts in the real world, cub scouts from The Berenstein Bears, the My Little Pony universe should try Filly Scouts, with our beloved Cutie Mark Crusaders in tow. Not only should they sell cookies like girl scouts would do in the real world, but also do some of the things that would usually be done by boy scouts, such as first aid, pitch tents, handling nature like a boss, and being very brave. What do you guys think? Is this a good idea for the show?

Is the Season 4 finale going to steal my ideas?
sampsoninc916 replied to sampsoninc916's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Okay, I see where you're going. Maybe I should rewrite my movie idea, centered around the main 6, and taking place 12 years after A Canterlot Wedding. Maybe I should save the autistic character for an original animated production of my own writing. Sorry if I caused much trouble. Either way, I still want to make a movie in 2023 that is dedicated to Walt Disney, because 2023 is the 100 year anniversary he founded the Disney company. It probably should be something different other than MLP. Well, I really like the show the way it is, but what I would like to see is the mane 6 and the princesses really kick some honey buns, not to get their honey buns kicked. By which I mean, have a little Popeye the Sailor Man style fight. -
Is the Season 4 finale going to steal my ideas?
sampsoninc916 replied to sampsoninc916's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
A Canterlot Wedding was going to be mainly about the "pretty pink pony princess" wedding. Us fans saw it as a new epic story with a new beast villain. The reason why I want to have an autistic character in the My Little Pony movie is 1. There has never been before in the history of mankind an autistic character that was animated. There have already been autistic characters in cinema. Rain Man, anyone? 2. I want to be the real risk taker, the misfit, the crazy one. Walt Disney was a risk taker. Steve Jobs was a risk taker. John Lasseter was a risk taker. Albert Einstein was a risk taker. Thomas Edison was a risk taker. Martin Luther King Jr. was a risk taker. The ones who help change the world are the ones who take the big risks and are not afraid to stand up for what they believe is right. If I make this movie that I want to make, I'll probably be the first high functioning autistic person in the history of mankind to ever direct any movie ever in the history of Hollywood. I never saw Derpy as being autistic. Compared to Derpy, Emerald Wishes is really smart. I'm really smart, I don't have wall eyes, and I'm progressing farther than some of you can even imagine. Some folks thought I would never make it past high school. Well, I did. Some folks believe that I would never make it past college. Well, here I am, and I only have a small handful of college semesters left. Sure there is going to be an Equestria Games, but A Canterlot Wedding was based around an villain plot that took place in the midst of a big Equestria event. Not to mention I want to have reindeer in the movie. Not only is this because the writers established that hooved mammals can speak, but also it is because I am a huge fan of the stop motion Rankin Bass Christmas Specials, including their most famous one, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, which will turn 50 next year. The writing team probably has better ideas than I do, so proper collaboration with them on the movie will ensure that I have a good original movie based on a story universe based on a toy, which probably wouldn't count as being original. In order to get a quality product, I need a real crew plus an MPAA official to make sure the movie is rated G. I don't mean for a male character to take the place of Twilight! I just want to add some male characters in order to help balance out the male and female characters, still keeping the focus on the female characters. There has never been a boys club in Equestria, so having male characters to balance out the male and female characters can add some substance. -
On Facebook, the Hub and the MLP Facebook page have been teasing about the Equestria Games, which will undoubted be in the Season 4 finale, which will very likely be a two parter. The problem is, I'm worried that it is going to steal some of my ideas that I have for the movie, which I want to make once I get my career going. Some folks have criticized me for wanting more gruesome violence on My Little Pony. Not true, I only worry about it getting so dark, distraught, and PG-13-ish, which I should know by know that it won't. My idea for the movie involves a male autistic unicorn pony named Emerald Wishes witnessing that fateful wedding where he thinks Queen Chrysalis killed Princess Celestia, which in real life she didn't, and spends 12 years of his life becoming more powerful in order to "avenge Celestia's death" yet learns that Celestia is doing fine and Queen Chrysalis never came back in 12 years and eventually helps the Mane 6 and the princesses in fighting the large evil approaching Equestria. I'm a little worried that if the Season 4 finale brings Queen Chrysalis back, or even worse, reforms her, my idea for the movie that I've been mapping in my head for the past 2 years goes directly in the dustbin and I have to start entirely from scratch again. I'm just a senior in college, and after college I want to establish myself as an animation studio guy and make the My Little Pony movie by the year 2023. I sometimes worry that Hasbro has placed secret cameras in my house to monitor what I'm thinking and then they're gonna steal some of my ideas before I get to make them. Of course I'm joking about the cameras part, but we all have that feeling that we are being watched by something else, even when we're alone. Only thing that could watch us all is the Lord God Almighty. Do you have any feelings that the show may steal your ideas about the whole Pony universe?

movies/tv Why I thought cartoons were dead once upon a time.
sampsoninc916 posted a topic in Media Discussion
It was early January 2006 in Breckinridge, Colorado, a neat little town that is a popular skiing destination for folks going on vacation in the area, right near the Great Divide in North America. I was in my hotel room, my little sister was watching TV, The Disney Channel to be precise, and what I saw on there did not reflect in any manner the Disney I knew, you know, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, those classic Disney movies such as Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King, and of course, that loveable bug, Herbie. It was just some show called The Suite Life of Zach and Cody and endless advertisements for a TV movie called High School Musical. The movie aired and became popular spawning a bunch of merchandise. Then this other show called Hannah Montana came along and it too became popular, spawning merchandise. I had to repeatly sit back as my little sis took over my TV time and I had to watch these horrible tween (as I later found out they were) shows and movies such as Cowbelles, Read it and Weep (not the pony episode of the same name), and Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior. The rate that these programs were coming at me, their insepid focus on teenage girls, my animation snobbiness at the time (Home on the Range was supposed to be the final Disney 2D film) for classic animated stuff, and the stuff I grew up with (I watched a lot of cartoons and animated shows as a kid, even the puppet shows I watched) made me think for a while, "Gee, cartoons are like, dead". That statement, as I know now, proved to be "highly illogical" and incorrect. The 2nd animation renaissance helped me out extremely well. Princess and the Frog and Winnie the Pooh were 2D animated, even though that's the best they could do, and CGI animation was starting to gain an asthetic that was reminescent of 2D animation, and next month's upcoming Disney movie Frozen proves that. Also, good cartoons were starting to pop up (tried Phineas and Ferb but gave up on it after "Phineas and Ferb Get Busted"). By the time I started watching everypony's favorite show about candy color equines, all thoughts about cartoons being dead quickly faded away. Well, it wasn't my fault for thinking they were dead, maybe you should ask the Disney channel producers. -
I admire Princess Celestia, but a pony like herself should not be my enemy or betrayer nor should she be the sort to die with one stroke. The My Little Pony Facebook page tossed this up: What’s the best piece of advice you ever received? Share it! – Twilight Sparkle I replied to this post with this: Didn't Celestia say this phrase right after she betrayed Twilight and died at the hand of Queen Chrysalis?

Will history repeat itself on the show?
sampsoninc916 replied to sampsoninc916's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
But still, the words of that Frank Sinatra song are classic. They even played the song on the Apollo 11 mission. It would really be a jumping the shark moment if the Apollo 11 module landed on the moon where Twilight and her friends got banished to and then Neil Armstrong just helps them get back to Equestria. I threw that idea out the window, because its too stupid.
