Help me please!

So, I don't know if I'm in the right place to ask a question like this, forgive me, I joined today.

I was at John Lewis (I'm from England) and I saw these cool MLP figurines. I ran over to have a look, and my mum said 'aren't you a little old for My Little Pony?'

I tried to explain, but she was already off looking for some clothes for my younger brother. This morning I was watching it on TV, my mum came in and said: 'Please, PLEASE tell me you'e joking.'

Help! I feel so uncomfortable about being a brony around my family (and friends for that matter, they laugh at me and say stuff like 'I stopped liking My Little Pony when I was six') but I still want to like MLP. How can I get my parents to accept the fact that I'm a brony, why do they think I'm joking? I'm not. Sorry it's so long, and thank you so much for anyone who will read this and be willing to give me good advice.

Welcome to the forums, Lewis. Personally, I would keep my "brony" status away from my parents, and when I'm alone, I watch it, either on my PC or laptop. But hey, if u like it, then that's ur decision and no one should change that, :). If u have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask and we'll be happy to help ya out

Woah! Seems you're having a tiny bit of trouble there! Maybe your mum doesn't know what a Brony is?

Though I don't usually go bringing it up around my family, they'd roll their eyes at me anyway!  >_>

Anyway, welcome to this fine and fabulous community, you'll love it here I'm sure!

There's heaps of topics to talk about over and lot's of friendly people!

See you around the forums!

Hello, and welcome to the forums!!

How can I get my parents to accept the fact that I'm a brony, why do they think I'm joking? I'm not. Sorry it's so long, and thank you so much for anyone who will read this and be willing to give me good advice.

I would try showing/explaining to her that there is actually a huge amount of teenage and adult fans of this show, so it's really not weird at all that you like it. Tell your family that this show has a huge following of older fans, and there's a reason for it, it's because it's a good show. This might help, and it's what I did right away when I told my mom about liking the show, I made it clear that I'm not just liking a little kids show for no reason, but that it is a good show and there's many many other older guys who think so too.

Yo! Welcome to the forums. Hope you have a great time. If people in your life are disapproving of you watching something, I'd just explain it to them, but ONLY if they ask. If they still don't really like it, then go search for friends who do enjoy it. Start with the question like, "Have you ever heard of guys who like My Little Pony? They think it's pretty good!" If they're interested, you can share what you know. If they're not, then you should move on.

Hope that helps. Brohoof /)

You are right. This isn't the right place to post this. BUT! *hugs* I don't mind it :)

I would just say let her live with it. It's a bit weird for a parent that doesn't know about these things sure. Not much you can do except let her get used to it :S
