This topic came up for me earlier this week and I am just curious as to what all you guys and gals out there in ponyland think about it.

When browsing for or looking at fan art do you like to see artwork based upon the show's artistic style or would you like to see more creative takes on everyone's favorite little ponies?

Let me know what you all think, cause I'd really like to know.

I prefer pony art which deviates from show's artistic style. Every artist is an individual. Art with a unique flavour and style, where you can see the personality of the creator shining through, is much more enjoyable for me to look at and browse.

The show's style was designed for easy animation. The simplified shapes, clear sharp lines and exaggerated expressions are all features of this. As digital painters and cartoonists, fan artists don't have the same limitations animators have to work with. We're not restricted to one single style. We have far more freedom, and I love it when artists take that freedom and create something spectacular from it.

That said, I find the same is true with any fan art of any show. The varied styles of fan artists are one of the things which makes fan art so great!
