I don't really understand why people hate Equestria Girls as there's nothing to hate about it I just wanted to know someone's point of view

I don't know. I was very worried at first, and put off watching it because it felt so awkward. I figured that it would be the one MLP franchise that I wouldn't like.

Once I saw it on Youtube, I realized it wasn't bad. I didn't like it that much, but it still went way beyond my expectations and I could at least sit through it.

Sig made by Kyoshi.

Cool things people have said about me:

Never heard of him but I guess just you mentioning him is a good reason not to go anywhere near that name.

(In reference to an author I suggested.)

Because they're butthurt the first FiM movie we got wasn't actually about ponies.

Equestria Girls was great.  There was a lot to like about it, but it just wasn't MLP.

What are the basic things that make MLP what it is?

MLP is a show about ponies... Equestria Girls got rid of the ponies.

MLP is a show about magic... Equestria Girls got rid of almost all of the magic.

MLP is a show about the mane 6's friendship... Equestria Girls spends half the movie with them not being friends, and then has us go through largely a repeat of stuff that happened in S1 episodes to make them friends again.

MLP is a show with a complex and very unique setting which incorporates things like Greek mythology... Equestria Girls has a cliche high school setting.

Basically everything that makes MLP unique was somehow changed.  There's a lot to love about Equestria Girls, but it just wasn't the same as MLP, so naturally a lot of MLP fans either aren't going to like it or are going to be disappointed since MLP's big movie premiere wasn't nearly as good as it could have been.

What it boils down to is that anytime something people love is significantly changed, people are going to be upset.  It's not because the new thing is bad, it's just because it's not what we originally became fans of.  Essentially it's like ordering a chocolate cake, and getting vanilla.  it's not that you hate vanilla, it's that you like chocolate more, and you were expecting chocolate.

I wondered the same thing. I mean why are all you guys hating this show? But I think it's because it's got stereotypes and people are getting tired of those.

I don't care what pony you like because I like everypony!

Ah, another of these threads.

I didn't hate it or love love LOVE it. I'm on the "love" side a few meters away from the fence. Also, my response has a spoiler tag because, first of all, it's long, and secondly, it does contain some spoilers.

The biggest hate factor of the movie is that it's cliché and stereotypically set in a high school environment. Coming up with a feature-length movie for this amazing television series had so many possibilities. My personal favorite is the idea of the CMC finally earning their cutie marks, but, instead, they not only turned the ponies into humans, they set them in high school. After Grease, High School Musical, and so many sitcoms set with high school students, the setting is starting to get pretty old. Now with Rainbow Rocks coming out this fall as a battle of the bands, the EqG haters just aren't ready for another cliché.

The second aspect of the movie that most people didn't like - myself included - was character design. All of them had long hair, probably just so their hair extensions would look like tails. They all wore skirts, even Rainbow Dash and Applejack. Their skin and hair was just about the same as their manes and coats in the show, they were all the exact same height with the exception of Celestia and Luna, and they all wore bulky boots, for crying out loud. I'm surprised that the designers who drew up Rarity's amazing dresses couldn't do better than skirts and boots. Many bronies have released their own character designs for the movie, and there are very few that aren't better than that of the movie.

The final thing that receives lots of hate is the toy line, but that's self-explanatory.

Do keep in mind, however, that just because I basically wrote an essay on this doesn't necessarily mean I don't like the movie either. I liked it and am impatiently awaiting Rainbow Rocks. This just means I can understand why some people might not like it.

Hello !  Just so you know, there is already an ongoing thread for discussing everyone's perspective on the Equestria Girls movie here if you would be interested in joining in.

In the future, please be sure to use the search function to see if your idea for discussion already exists before breating a new thread.  This not only helps keep the forums a bit more organzied and tidy, but helps avoid any confusion that multiple threads tend to cause.
