  1. 1. What would you say is the best type of ending to a overall dark story line?

    • A dark ending for a dark story, the bad guy wins and the reader is left grasping at strings, crying, and wanting more.
      5
    • Everything comes together in a big explosive and suspenseful climax but is ended happily and cleanly with the good guy winning and all, or most of, the loose strings tied up.
      3
    • Supposedly happy with the good guy winning, but leaving on a dark and uncertain twist that demands a more.
      8
    • The climax causes the entire story to tumble back to circumstances near identical to the beginning, proving that if you don't learn from the past, you are destined to repeat yourself.

So I'm writing a rather dark fanfiction and everything about the story is spinning out of control (in a good way) rather quickly.

I want to end the story within 2-12 more chapters, and I'm having a hard time deciding on how I want to end it. So do me a favor and take a look at the poll above and offer me your opinion on the subject.

Thanks for reading. Post below.  ;)

"Supposedly happy with the good guy winning, but leaving on a dark and uncertain twist that demands a more. " - is certainly my piece of pie. When everything is fine again, and everything came to normal, you just give backstab to the story, and leave awesome dark cliffhanger. Mmmmm soo looovee it...

Good guy supposedly winning, but then bad guy winning whilst the good guy is obliviously celebrating. Very dark ending if done right  :comeatus:

Hmm, sounds good. I like it.

But, I am still deciding, I honestly am having trouble with this one.

I think you should wait for the story to stop spinning before you stop it.  If your story ends too abruptly and the loose ends aren't all tied together at the end, it will feel anti-climatic and forced.  If the spinning is tying up all the loose ends, then end it with a big bang but if the story is just spinning and spinning (even if it is in a good way), forcing it to come to a stop might not get you the results you're after.
