Could Hasbro cause the whole fanbase to deteriorate?

I'm wondering this because there's been many legal actions by Hasbro as of late, such as them taking down Ask Princess Molestia and C&D'ing Jananimations. How much is this really going to affect the future of the MLP fanbase? Will Hasbro cause many content creatures to veer from making MLP stuff? How much would this possibly get?

It'd take a lot more than a money hungry company to ruin the fandom... it'd take laws and legal or illegal actions directly concerning fanwork. But that's mostly the problem of the state that has said laws... Copywright laws are outdated and they need to change.

Yeah that's what I was thinking about. This issue is probably going to keep snowballing to the point where the fanbase is completely broken.

You know what they say... when you push a beast towards the edge... IT BITES.

If the corporation goes down a more antagonistic route then nontraditional fans might find themselves pressed on all sides by enemies, leading to a collapse of the fandom overall. Of course no one may stop myself or others from simply watching the show but it is possible to totally destroy the fandom; I would advise against that course of action if Hasbro is considering it.

Well, let's be honest, we represent a large part of their money income.

A money hungry company won't bite the hand that feeds.

Um...no. And by no, I mean no by a LONG shot! This fandom is too big and too active to be shot down like that. Hasbro has been DAMN good to this fandom; moreso than other companies out there. We've weathered so-called controversies like Derpy, Twilacorn, and Equestria Girls, and we'll continue on!

Sometimes, we may not like it and it is unfortunate, but Hasbro has to do some things that may seem to be unfair to protect its copyright on the MLP franchise and trademark. I mean, if fans can create show-like content for free, what message could this send to other companies that could copy FiM and sell it for profit?

I hate it for JanAnimations, but his work was almost spot-on perfect in regards to capturing the quality and heart of the show. We all loved it, but it represented a serious risk for Hasbro, and they had to take action. Thankfully, some compromises were made and some videos have seen the light of day again, but as it stands I can't blame Hasbro for their actions.

As for Princess Molestia, that was always going to be a risqué subject; that we can't ignore. Yes, there is the issue of free speech, but considering the popularity of that blog...if Hasbro was behind the takedown of it, again it is hard to blame them.

It's unfair, but that is what copyright is. Hasbro has to take steps to protect its interests, or it can risk losing said copyright is copycat companies take advantage and make clones of the show. If I were in Hasbro's shoes...I might have to do the same thing.

I agree 100% with this post. We're the reason MLP is getting them so much money. We're also the reason a lot of people know the show exists.
