It was like any other day in Ponyville, the sun beaming down, not a cloud in sight, the birds were chirping away with their beautifully composed songs and the residents were going about their business. Though one pink mare was bouncing in anticipation. "I wonder what he looks like. Is he tall. Short. Blue. Green. Purple. Handsome. Maybe he is good at making cupcakes!", At the speed she talked it was amazing that she didn't run out of breath.

"Well I'm sure they're going to be a great inclusion to the town" said twilight, though her voice did slightly falter, as if she had a small doubt in her mind that... no, it's fine, it's going to be fine.

"Oh, I hope he has good fashion sense, I've always been looking for male model in this forsaken-" Rarity caught her words as she felt the cold stare of her friends slowly make their way in her direction. "... this divine little town" She smiled, feigning confidence in her own statement, but the other five ponies easily caught up on what she was intending on saying about the 'divine little town'.

All six of them stared eagerly at the trail this mysterious resident would be entering through.

A few minutes passed and finally hoofsteps could be heard in the distance. The mares braced them selves, smiles raised and eyes narrowed. Over the horizon came what looked like a grey and brown silhouette. Twilight's smile dropped "oh no..."

"twahlight what's wrong?" Applejack said with clenched teeth and hardly moving lips.

"no, no no no" her head was shaking and her legs began to quiver.

"Twilight, seriously, knock it off" Rainbow dash said still trying to make eye contact towards the grey figure.

The pony became more clear, they were a short grey stallion, with a long unkempt mane and grey eyes, His face seemed to be stuck in this sort of scowl and his eyes looked vacant, as if he was in very deep though whilst he paced in the direction of the town. He was but five feet in front of the ponies and he stopped, making direct eye contact with them. All of them, but Twighlight shouted "Welcome to Ponyville!". The stallion was unphased. He began to make his way forward and they parted as to not get in his way. He trotted off, ignoring the confused stares that followed him.

"was that the right feller?" asked applejack, perplexed "Twahlight?"

"That was..." Twilight paused, she had to conjure up the strength to say the name of the stallion in question "...Monotone"

monotone made his way into the town, glancing at the buildings surrounding him. he looked wrong amidst the bright colours of the town. with six confused mares following behind him, he made his way into ponyville.

pinkie pie is the first to attempt contact a second time. what she said was very to the point for the pink mare. "how do grey balloons sound?" she asked after jumping in front of the grey stallion and lowered her head to ask the question, shaking her tail in a playfull manner.

stopping to stare down at the mare for no more than a second he continued towards his destination, heading straight through the middle of town he turned heads throughout. "who is he." asked a green mare with a lyre cutie mark to twilight sparkle. "not now lyra." snapped the purple mare without looking away from the grey stallion.

the stallion was followed by an ever growing crowd right through the town and out of the other side. once there the stallion stopped outside a house right on the outskirts of town. he looked up and down the outside of the house, seeming to deem it acceptiable. he trotted towards the house, opening a fence with his magic and closing it without turning he stares constantly at the house.

as he opens the door with his magic all of the ponies stand outside of the fence in anticipation, anticipation of what? no one knew. he turns in the doorway to close it and sees all of the ponies outside his house, he turns his muzzle up at them slightly as he closes the door.

inside the house monotone is finally away from those pesky ponies. he moves his heavy saddlebag off of his back with his magic and moves towards what should be the bedroom if this place has any sense to it's layout.

stepping inside the room he sees a bed and a wardrobe. good enough. he drops his saddlebag onto the bed and turns to what should be an en suite bathroom; "ow!"

'wait, no. that isn't right.' monotone thinks to himself as he turns back to the bed just in time to see the saddlebag drop off of the bed and onto the floor. emerging from under the covers of the bed a pegasus with a cyan mane and light grey coat stares tiredly at him. after a few seconds realising that there was a pony opposite him and widening his green eyes in shock.

daydream had been having a perfectly good nap when he was awoken abruptly by saddlebags being dropped heavily onto him, looking up he sees a grey unicorn staring at him. after making some very effeminate noises he gets up on the other side of the bed, preparing to jump out of the window through which he had entered. "what are you doing here?" he asked as the now even more unhappy monotone who replies "i could ask you the same question." as he picks up his saddlebags and places them back on the bed.

"i was in this house, taking a nap like i do every thursday when you come and throw your bag on me. whats in there anyway? rocks?" says daydream, flexing his wings ever so slightly and moving for the window.

"actually no, and this is my house. did you not notice all of the new furnature?" asks monotone as he picks up some things that fell out of the bags.

"i did actually... OH HEY LOOK."

monotone looks up from the fallen items to see a pillow fly past his face and the grey pegasus leave quickly through the window.

monotone decided to think nothing of this encounter and started to unpack his things.

Immediately after unpacking all that is left in his saddle bags, he decided, 'I should probably walk around for a bit, map out the area for future reference'. He immediately leaves, only to find the pink mare still at his door.

"I know, brown ones" he dismisses the pony and makes his way around her and out of the gate. She soon follows suit, bouncing behind him, persistent in getting even the smallest bit of information out of him.

"green balloons, how about that?" she asks, bouncing by his side. Monotone huffs, trying to ignore her grating voice. "blue?" her bounce turned a gallant stride. "black?" her hooves now starting to drag across the floor and her infectious smile was faltering "... did I say green?".The grey pony still paced forward, observing his surroundings, but still avoiding eye contact with the pink menace. She stopped dead in her tracks and her haunches fell to the floor in defeat. 'Finally she gave up' monotone thought to himself 'I Should probably get out of her sight though, in case she has one more colour epiphany'. He hurried around the corner of a building to find him facing a slightly less populated part of town.

A few moments of trotting around later he found himself on the edge of the Everfree forest. Most ponies would be intimidated at the sight of the dark tree line and the mysterious noises that seemed to emanate from the bowels of the woods, but his expression remained hardly unchanged, in fact he started having thoughts of exploring it, but the sun was beginning to fall beyond the horizon as Luna crept the moon over the landscape. He may have been been fearless, but he was by no means stupid, 'only Celestia knows what comes out at night'. He turned around to see that a light blue mass of hair and a light grey hind leg hanging from a cloud floating above. 'Is that the pegasus from earlier?' he questioned to himself.

'sneaky as cerburus.' daydream thought to himself. looking down at the grey unicorn that was heading towards the everfree. now that he came to think about it, where did that saying come from, cerbarus is huge. he wouldn't be able to sneak past a blind cave fish in a music festival.

he was dragged away from this train of thought by the sudden realisation that he was being buffeted from all sides by air, for the second time that day he made several noises a filly would be ashamed to make. spreading his wings he glided down towards the ground. landing on something squishy. he folded his wings away and looked around for any indication as to the unicorns whereabouts.

"geff vff ffu uffa mee."

that was strange, daydream was sure that his hindquaters had only spoken to him on one other occasion. looking down daydream saw that, if fact, his rump was not making any sound but that he was sat on somepony. "oh celestia! sorry, sorry."

getting up off of the pony he noticed that is was the very pony he was looking for. daydream considered hiding but realised that his hopes of spying on him were tarnished.

monotone, at this point, was extremely angry. he did not know this pegasus but at the moment he hed broken into his house and sat on his face and monotone didn't take kindly to this kind of treatment.

"Now look here you little s**t!" He said, his face flushing red from the shear amount of blood flowing up to his cheeks. "I have had enough of you bloody ponies, I've been stalked by a large crowd, verbally tortured by that pink... thing, and you have the audacity to break into my house and bestow your ass cheeks upon my face!" He was trembling from the pure rage that was boiling in his hateful little mind.

"You may think I am of no threat" Monotone exclaimed, as he began to pace towards the other pony "you are a short, scrawny and an untidy little colt, all you could do is bite my ankles" his voice mocked the unnamed stallions, but in a much more higher pitch and insulting way. Monotone then started to press his face up against the taller stallion's, even if he did have to stretch to reach "But oh am I a threat" After that remark Monotone turned and promptly walked off. "Oh and be glad I didn't make you to sit on my horn and spin" He shouted with his back turned.

As Monotone walked he began to calm down from his sudden outburst of rage, though he still ranted in his mind and thought words that no pony should hear let alone say. As he walked he heard a collection of howls in the distance, his ears scoped towards the sound quickly followed by his eyes staring into the dark expanse of the forest. Though this did hardly effect him, he couldn't help but feel somewhat intimidated by such an ominous noise.

the sound of the hounds snapped daydream out of his shocked stupor. he had not meant to anger anypony, he was just sleeping. he decided to go home, flapping his wings, he takes off, the air buffeting his face as he flies up into the clouds. seeing as the place he had been staying at had been... 'claimed', he needed a place to sleep.

as he flew through the clouds, looking for a place to stay he saw a house up on his level, above the clod layer. it was the house of his boss, rainbow dash.

her and him had a history, or was it him and her, either way he figured that through blackmail or friendship he could get into her house.

rainbow dash was aleep. she dreamt of the wonderbolts and flying through the clouds, she dreamt of family and friends. she was happy. untill a rather loud banging at the door woke her up.

she got up and picked up a glass that she had next to her bed, intending to throw it at whoever was on the other side of the door.

she was surprised to see someone who had been an employee of hers not once but twice. in both of her jobs. she let daydream in and asked if he wanted a drink. eventually.

"uh, no thank you." the grey stallion said. "but i would rather like to sleep with you."

this snapped her into attention. "you what?" she says, staring at him with an unlikely mix of confusion and anger.

"no! no, wait. you don't understand. i got kicked out of the place i was staying and i need somewhere to crash." he says, backing up slightly.

"well..." she relaxes and sits opposite him in her living room. "i don't know about crashing, but i think i can allow you to stay, just for tonight."

daydream was glad that she never worked anywhere with more than ten other ponies that she comes into contact with at work. he lay here now on rainbow dash's living room sofa and closed his eyes. thinking of the grey unicorn from earlier.

his thoughts on the matter seemed to be going in circles so he was glad that another thought floated into the mix. 'how did i knock on a door made of clouds anyway?'

Monotone woke to find his bed cover thrown across the room and his body contorted in what didn't seem like a natural position. He sat up, his spine making multiple and loud pops. "dammit body, why do you have to pretend you're a gymnast whilst I sleep".

He hopped out of bed, floated his covers back in their place and made his way downstairs.

"typical, no food..." he muttered to himself. He closed the cupboard doors and made his way to the front window. He very slightly opened the drawn curtains, to see if any surprises were waiting for him behind the front door. He breathed a sigh of relief when he found no pony had been waiting to share their opinions on balloon colour or to assault him with their buttocks.

He stood their with his head pressed against the door, trying to gain the courage to go outside. 'c'mon Monotone, you can do it, just try to ignore them'. He made one last deep breath and swung open the door. Silence, save for the breeze that rustled the trees nearby.

Thankfully most ponies were probably asleep, but that wasn't going to be for long. He rushed out the door and quickly headed to the centre of town to find anywhere that sold any sustenance for his ever increasing hunger. Hopefully i can actually find somewhere that sells food at this time of morning'

He spotted an apple stall held by the orange mare he had met on his way through town yesterday. Probably isn't it such a bad idea to stock up on a few apples'. He galloped over to the stall, bits at the ready.

"why howd- oh, its you..." The pony said, a small scowl drew itself on her face.

"Yes it is, thank you for your amazing deduction skills" He nickered. "10 apples" He threw the correct amount of bits on the counter.

"Hey, now what you did to mah friend was-"

"Thank you, have a good day." He interrupted her, and strode away with the apples floating into his saddle bag.

"Not even the elements of harmony can save that misguided soul" She claimed to herself.

He made his way deeper into town, he saw ponies had started to wake. 'I need to hurry'. He looked for the nearest shop. 'Ah, sugar cube corner.... it sounds disgusting', despite that he made his way in anyway.

As soon as he went through the door he saw... her

"Hey! Monotone" The pink mare made her way towards him. He tried to escape, but she already had him in her clutches.

"Look, I know it's tough moving and people get reeeeaaal grouchy! So i can understand, by the way my name's Pinkiepie, MAKE UP HUG!"

"no no no-" It was too late he was trapped in her repulsive embrace, his stomach began to churn. Soon enough he could feel his rib cage beginning to creak under the pressure of her constriction

"better?"

"NO! YOU PIECE OF-" he caught himself on his words, he didn't want to have lose his temper again. No matter how tempting it may be. "just give me like, three oatmeal muffins or something" His body was trembling from the resistance of not shouting at her.

"Okey dokey loki" she skipped over behind the stall and grabbed the requested goods. "Here ya go!"

"Th- thank you" he floated the muffins into his bag.

"I hope we become reeeeeally good friends in the future"

"Yeah, and i hope you die an exrusiatia- i mean...uh, have a... good... day" Wishing such fortune on somepony like her wanted monotone to empty the contents of his stomach, thankfully nothing was in there to be able to escape.

"bye!" Pinkie bidded before Monotone slammed the door in her face, as to not have to talk to her again for at least a small while. All this socialising was beginning to take its toll on his mind.

monotone had ten apples and three, no, four (she snuck one in, the audacity), muffins. eh, it wasn't much but he could make it last. now, seeing as everypony is waking up he figured he should get about his business and get home. he required entertainment, there had to be a library around here somewhere...

"hey, mister!" a voice that monotone could swear came from a filly said from behind him. oh, come on, why don't these ponies just get the message. he turned to see a grey pegasus with a blonde mane and...

monotone had never quite seen eyes like those, large golden eyes that skewed in the wrong directions. "mister?" said the voice again. monotone had been so fixated on those odd eyes that he had not realised that he was staring rather rudely. "oh.. uh, yes. hello."he said, suddenly remembering that he had places to be. "do you have muffins, sir?" she asked, looking at the bag still floating in his magic from that pink mare.

"what of it?" said monotone, soon realising that this would only prolong this surely tedious conversation.

"it's just... you wouldn't happen to have any..." she tailed off into stutters and murmurs.

"any what, spit it out, filly." seethed monotone, getting impatient.

"...spare?" she said, a pleading posture creeping into her physique.

suddenly monotone remembered a loathing for all things in the universe as he said; "as a matter of fact, i do." through gritted teeth that would surely break at the slightest annoyance.

floating the extra muffin from his bag he dropped it on the mares head and left, almost avoiding hearing her say "thanks, mister."

a tree. the library was a tree.

emphasis on was, turns out it got blown up. this town got more and more ridiculous with each day. he decided to turn tail and head home. trotting around buildings to avoid the ever growing mass of ponies congregating in town he started to head home. this course of action did not last long as he soon noticed something strange on a nearby bush.

a light blue tail was hanging out, in plain sight for him to see. with his magic he grabbed the tail and lifted it up. the grey pegasus with whom he had already been aquainted followed behind the tail as he lifted it up. "watching me again, are we?" said monotone, not as angry as he thought he would be.

in a slightly curled up position , forelegs bent by his chest, he replied in as calm a manner as could be mustered upside down. "actually, no. i was going to look for you later."

he was like a foal telling his mother that he didn't do it. "oh yeah, then why hide in the bushes?" his large green eyes breifly glanced over at some tables with lots of ponies sitting around them. around one were the six ponies that had 'greeted' him yesterday, on another were four ponies that he had not seen before and, sat alone on another was the pegasus he had given the muffin to earlier. having still not eaten it she just looked at it, seeming to use it so as to not look at the other tables and remember that she was alone.

a smirk crept across monotone's face. "looking at mares, are we?" he said, bringing the pegausus' face closer to his own.

the pegasus visibly blushed and monotone dropped him. he started to walk away when the voice of the pegasus rang out from behind him.

daydream gets up and says "but, if you're here, i can say my bit to you now." he flaps his wings to catch up with the grey unicorn. "look, i- i'm sorry for sleeping in your house. it's just, it was my house untill yesterday." monotone looked at him without slowing, for a short stallion he could get quite a pace going; "they gave me a pre-owned house?" he asked, flatly.

"well, i didn't... exactly... own it." daydream said ashamedly.

"great, a croucher." said monotone.

"and i'm also sorry about your face too. i was simply spying on you and--" daydream was cut off by monotone.

"simply spying in me? why can't any of the ponies in this stupid town just leave me alone?" he says, dissapearing in a flash of magic.

appearing at his house, monotone decided that he would never leave again. could a pony live their natural life on ten apples and four, no, three muffins.

a sudden smack at the window made him jump. he moves to the window and glances out. expecting a pidgeon or something. as he gets to the window the face of the grey pegasus appears.

monotone closes the blind with his magic without second thought. it was of no use, the face of the pegasus appeared in a window on the other wall. "I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT--" the pegasus was cut off by the blinds. from the window opposite that one monotone then heard; "A AM SORRY FOR ANY MIS--" blinds down. monotone runs throught the corridor; "MISCONDUCTS TO YOUR BEING--" monotone runs into his room and closes all the blinds and doors. now, alone and in the dark monotone hears the apolagetic voice of the pegasus blathering on to himself outside the window.

It has now been 5 hours. The pegasus was still mumbling about how sorry he was and many other unrelated things that even the element of honesty wouldn't share.

Monotone tried to drown it out, but it had no use, the pegasus' voice was gnawing at his mind, slowly eating away at his sanity as he rocked back and forth in his bed.

He couldn't take this any more,  he had to take action.

He drew the curtains and opened the window.

"shut...up" Said monotone, in a quiet voice. No effect had been taken, the pegasus was so in to his own ramblings that his perception had completely shut down.

"Shut, UP!" Still no response. Monotone levitated a small ornament on the shelf next to him. he threw it in the direction of the hovering stallion, sailing past his head. nothing. This was beginning to test his patience now, well, it was already tested five hours ago, it was even more so tested.

He bombarded the light grey stallion with miscellaneous object in his room a lot of them hitting and, you guessed it, nothing.

Monotone growled in anger, drastic action was going to have to be taken. He back-pedalled five steps into his room. Lowering his body in an readied stance. He ran full sprint towards the window, hopped onto the bottom of the window seal and leaped towards the pegasus. The small grey unicorn flying towards him certainly caught his attention now.

Monotone grabbed him, the pegasus wings struggled to keep both of them afloat, but they tumbled to the ground in a mass of fur and limbs.

They landed five feet apart, both of them sprawled on the floor and their bodies bruised. The taller stallion writhed on the floor in agony, but the smaller unicorn managed to defy his injuries and limped towards him at an alarming speed. "You f***ing imbacile, shut up, shut up, just SHUT UP!" the unicorn was now on top of the pegasus, pinning him down so he can't escape, "I will not hesitate to strike your neck with my hoof, or better yet, do a very messy labotomy with my horn. Stay away from me, don't ever come near me again. Only if you save my life will I even CONSIDER looking you in the eye."

through his own screaming of various profanities and many variations of "LUNAANDCELESTIAEATINGEACHOTHERSTAILSWHILELOBOTOMISINGONEANDOTHER" daydream heard what monotone said. he sat now, over the majority of his injuries, staring at a half-eaten plate of grass.

he couldn't finish it, what monotone had said had hit daydream hard.

'only if you save my life.'

those words rang out in daydream's head as he played with his food with one hoof. daydream couldn't save a life, all he had ever done was ruin and end lives. he became deaf to the world as all that he had done came flooding back to him, all the pain, the colts and fillies.

later that day he was, once again, in rainbow dash's house. he stared through her slightly open bedroom door at the mare, she read a book, daring do and the mystery of something or other.

did it haunt her. did she hear them when she closed her eyes, in her thoughts and dreams. casting a dark shadow in the back of her mind that she feared to ever go near. did she build walls around it, did she fear it.

rainbow dash notices daydream looking at her and he hurriedly ducks behind a sofa. his face feels cold in the breeze from a nearby window. why was his face cold, he normally was acustomed to it getting colder higher up in the sky. he touches a hoof to his face.

tears. celestia damn it, he was crying. as he wipes the tears away a voice from behind says "hey", causing him to jump. regaining his composure he tries to make it look as though he was merely looking out of the window. failing at this he asks; "do you ever think about it?" she gives him a confused look but he just looks at her coldly, confirming what she already suspected he was talking about.

with a sigh, she hops over the sofa and sits next to him. "i try not to, but it is hard. every time i go there it feels as though a little piece of me just... leaves..." she says, looking down at her floor.

without thinking about it, daydream pits an foreleg around her, she shoots him an angry look but, seeming to remember that they are alone, relaxes and leans into him. "what happened to you... i'm sorry, i shouldn't have put you on 15 hour shifts. i should never have done that to anypony. and i dont blame you for leaving." she says, slowly and out of her usual better-than-thou character.

"i know," he says quietly. after a few minutes of silence and staring into the night sky outside, daydream looks down at her, she notices this and looks up, he might as well say it; "i just want to say, even though you do all that, i still think you're a good pon-" "shut up daydream." this taking him by surprise he was still mid-way through saying 'okay then' when she kissed him.

The howling, that incessant howling. It rang through the forest and entered the ears of the tired residents, wanting to sleep, NEEDING to sleep. Monotone lay in bed thinking of the drastic scenarios the howling could lead to, 'an attack on ponyville?' What if they killed anypony.... what if they killed the six....'.

He could no longer remain in bed, just thinking about what can befall the town, and more importantly, what could befall him. He had to do something.

He paced to the other side of his room, still limping from his fall from earlier, to the closet built within the wall. He swung it open to find a large array of weaponry: Swords, maces, rifles, pistols, grenades. You name it, it was probably in there. He looked through briefly to find what he had been looking for, a flame-thrower. Very effective against the Timber Wolf population that potentially threatened the town.

If the Everfree forest looked intimidating during sun set, it certainly would make the bladders of some ponies begin to flow during the late hours of the night.

The howling was closer and louder. The flame-thrower on monotone's back unslung and was readied by his side.

He tried to make his hoof steps as quiet as possible as to not have his throat ripped out from the wooden beast before he can even get the smallest ember out of the weapon he held.

He silently parted a bush, to find an opening of the forest containing the beasts in question. Gathered around the corpse of a bloodied and ripped stag.

'This is it Monotone your first kill in ponyville'

Monotone leaped out of the bush, flame-thrower at the ready. They both stared each other down, the Monotone staying silent and the timber wolves growling at him. Two more had appeared behind him from the brush. 'Damn it... surrounded, nothing i can't handle though'.

One of the wolves in front leaped towards him. He swung the flame-thrower in it's direction and torched it, a pile of burning wood and ash left. The rest closed in on him. Due to the opening left by the now deceased monster, he made a break for it. The Timber wolves in hot pursuit.

Due to his injuries from earlier Monotone couldn't run that fast, but he still kept his distance from the beasts.

One managed to close the gap bearing it sharpened fangs and preparing to bite at Monotones hindquarters, sadly getting closer only managed to get the wolf turned into smouldering residue.

Though as he ran, one thought did come to mind, 'Why do planks of wood want to kill me?'. From pondering this he was able to catch his hoof in an overgrown tree root. The telekinetic field around the weapon imploded and made it fly through the air. It managed to get itself out of his horn's reach.

He attempted to get back up, but it was in vein as his leg could no longer hold his weight. He inspected the damage to find that a bone was protruding from his fore-leg. He couldn't feel the pain due to the shock, but this didn't negate the fact that the Timber Wolves closed in on him.

One of them towered over him, placing its splintered paw on monotones chest.

"Look out below!" That voice was familiar. A grey and blue streak fell from the sky and the Timber wolf on Monotone's chest was shattered intopieces.

Beside Monotone landed the pegasus that had given him so many pleasantries from before, "look, I'm sorry I haven't been the best pony and I-"

"SHUT THE F**K UP AND HELP ALREADY YOU C**T"

"OH, right, sorry" Daydream flew over to where the flame-thrower had fallen. He grabbed it in his teeth and threw it in the direction of the broken unicorn.

Flame spewed across the forest floor and lit up the once dark night. All that was left was the charred remains of the monsters and the burning leaves of the trees.

daydream had been well chuffed. he had swooped down and hit that timber wolf like a badass, then he flew up and grabbed the flamethrower.  and then the unicorn used it.

flame spewed around daydream, narrowly missing him as he froze in the air, the only moving part of him being his wings.

an orb of flame engulfed the two ponies, destroying foliage and sentient wooden wolves. when it stopped daydream felt strangely calm. and then he didnt. suddenly all of the panic of the last minute or so flooded over him and he fell to the ground, hyperventalating.

monotone was still over a few feet away; "hey, pegasus, get over here, i require assistance." he said at daydream, still inspecting his leg. daydream forced himself to calm down. he could panic later but right now he needed to help this unicorn.

he moved over to him, explaining why he was here, "i was up in rainbow's place and i was thinking about what you said and then stuff happened and i saw some lights and i remember what you said so i quietly get up to not wake her and im all like hey i'll go help and now here i am and do you forgive me now?"

in a mix of the excruciaing agony in his leg and the fact that this was all said too fast monotone was sure that the pegasus had just explained how he had travelled by rainbow to save his life. in any case; "yeah, still, ow, need help, ow."

"right, right." daydream moved over to the grey unicorn and hurled him over his back, pressing his wings into both of them in quite an uncomfortable manner. daydream made his way out of the forrest with the unicorn on his back, setting his mental destination for the hospital. it was then that his mind floated back to rainbow dash. maybe she woke up and saw some of that...

oh well. what can you do. he continued along the path, pondering what will become of his and the damaged unicorn on his back's relationship.

Whilst in the hospital bed, he flipped through a book that Twilight had gifted him. Even though Her brief experience with him was very unpleasant, she couldn't take away the fact that he almost died that night.

He lifted an oatmeal muffin to his mouth and took a small bite, Given to him by the crooked eyed mare that he had been so 'generous' to. 'Thanks for the muffin! and get well soon!' It said on the paper that held the cake. It was surprisingly neat, especially considering it was written with her mouth, as well as her disability potentially hindering her writing ability.

"Well Monotone, I think you are free to go" said the doctor pony leaning in the door way, with a wheel support held by the nurse beside him.

"Just take one healing potion per day for the next week and your leg should make a swift recovery." He said, as the nurse tightened the straps around his Monotones chest for the wheel.

"It's a bit big isn't it?" Monotone asked, grunting a little every time the straps became tighter

"I'm afraid that's the smallest one we have." The nurse said apologetically, releasing the straps from her mouth. "We don't usually treat patients your height, and the foal ones are much too small"

"okay then" Monotone replied, a twinge of annoyance in his voice as he had to wear this oversized support for a week if he wanted to walk.

"Do you have anyone to take you home?" The doctor questioned

"No"

"Well, you need somepony to help, in case the support comes loose or you trip"

"...Well... there is one pony"

"Thank you" Said monotone. Daydream was caught off guard, he didn't think he would hear anything positive from the short pony

"oh..uh, no problem" He states awkwardly, still surprised from the fact he was thanked. They finally arrived at Monotone's house.

"Well I guess I owe you" Monotone claimed reluctantly, he didn't want to pay the pegasus back. But he couldn't just leave and not say another word to him again.

"No it's fine i-"

"Your living with your boss at the moment right?"

"...yes?"

"I have a spare bedroom with your name on it, well, unless your bosses couch and or body is more appealing to you"

Daydream, was surprised by this, the pony he had caused so much anguish to actually wanted him to stay in the same residence.

What would he do? would he take the offer?

the offer takes daydream by surprise. why would this grumpy pony who, to all outwards appearances, hated him want daydream to live with him. nevertheless, he accepted the offer and prepared to move in. "uh... yeah, i'll just... get my... stuff..."

he darted up above the cloud layer before the grey unicorn could reply and started heading for the house he had been staying in.

"rainbow, good news, i'm offa your back. i just got a place down in town!" daydream fluttered in through the window to find the cyan coated pegasus getting some lunch. "awesome, who are you shacking up with?" she asked, pouring milk on some kind of cereal.

"uh... monotone.." said daydream cautiously as he picks up his toothbrush.

rainbow dash drops her milk. "the guy that made pinkie cry?! what are you thinking." she asked, shocked by this news.

"well, i saved his life and--"   "what did you save him from, a mirror?" assuming that had something to do with his ever-present scowl and not his looks, daydream said; "hey, i'll be off your back in the daytime and--"  "and what? daydream, he'll kill you in your sleep." she said, exasperated. "well, not if i spend most of my nights with you..." this seemed to calm her down a bit.

"i just want you to be carefull, okay?"

"fine,  fine." daydream said as he started to leave. turned out he only had the toothbrush. as he got to the window he could hear from behind him; "and show up for work on time."

when daydream headed beck towards the ground monotone was still stood outside his house. daydream came down and presented his toothbrush in a dramatic fashion.

monotone was not amused.

they headed inside and monotone showed daydream to his room and set up some rules. daydream wasn't listening so he only caught some of them.

rule 1. don't eat food willy-nilly.

rule 3. keep the house clean.

rule 5. don't make a mess or be to loud or alert me of your existence if you have 'friends' over. actually, no, just don't do those things at all.

yadda, yadda, yadda.

rule 10. don't EVER, go into monotone's room, ESPECIALLY not his wardrobe. is that clear.

great word, wardrobe. makes sense, it is the ward in which you keep robes. simple. like wards in a prison or psychiatric facility or factory. simple.

daydream settled himself in. this was the first room he had ever been given with an en suite bathroom, swanky. double king sized bed, he was sure he could make use of that. wardrobe that will probably stay empty. bedside table with a lamp on that will probably stay on for at least twelve hours a day, at night. nice.

he put the toothbrush in the bathroom and decided to take a nap, seeing as he had had about five minutes of sleep the night before. before and after that five minutes were very... action packed so by now daydream was very tired. he curled up on the bed and closed his eyes.

"wakey wakey, s**t-head. Oh, I'm sorry, I mean sleepy head" Monotone said, bursting into the room of the groggy pegasus. Opening the curtains of the dark space, flooding it with light.

"wh-wha..." Daydream was confused, either from the fact that somepony had awoken him prematurely, or that the owner of the residence wasn't telling him to get out of their house.

"Breakfast is on the table, and you are being my tour guide"

"Tour-what?"

"Somepony needs to show me around town. And I have nominated you."

"But why so... early?"

"less ponies to annoy me"

If this was any other pony he would have questioned why they would have said such a thing, but this is monotone. Questions were probably best left unanswered.

'Food... real food'. Daydream thought to himself, as he stared at the bowl of cereal. Sure it was only a bowl of Wheat Crunch, but it still didn't seize to amaze him.

"... You gonna eat that? Or try to absorb the nutrients with your retinas?" Monotone asked flatly, on the other side of the table.

"Oh... uh, yeah..." He promptly dug his face into the bowl, 'what sweet ambrosia is this?' Daydream thought to himself, amazed at the fact it wasn't moulded over, dirty or festering.

"You're a bit distant aren't you?"

"Thrshhh wuurld-" Daydream soon realised he hadn't swallowed, he did so soon after finding out his own mistake. "That would explain my name"

"oh, of course"

"-And that's why you never order the lemon surprise."

"Oh... okay then" Monotone was slightly perplexed by Daydream's reasoning, but he hated lemon anyway. "Well... home sweet home...". He said, whilst inspecting his house. 'Wait a minute... I didn't draw the curtains... did I? No I didn't!'

He rushed to the front door as fast as his three remaining legs could carry him. He opened it to find... no...

"Surprise!"

His house was trashed: banners saying 'get well soon', a party buffet, cheery music, balloons of various colours. And in the middle of it all was the culprit. Pinkie. Along with a collection of colourful and cheerful ponies that surrounded her, all invading his house. His space

He shook furiously, his face glowing red, he was about to shout the most profane language any pony had ever spoken. But just as he was about to, the wheel support snapped in two. He fell to the ground, landing on his broken leg. He screamed in agony, It felt like his leg had broken five times once he struck the ground.

The music stopped, the ponies stood there, silent.

"Oh my gosh! Are you okay?!" The pink mare shouted, running over to his assistance. She grabbed him from under the shoulders and lifted him up, until he shook free of her grasp.

"Get offa me!" He still wanted to shout at her, but it was no use, he knew she would just assume it as him being 'grouchy' because he was in unbearable pain, so she would keep pursuing him no matter what he did. So he didn't waste the energy.

Instead he got up, slowly yet surely, and made his way to the stairs, with only the use of one of his forelegs to help him travel in that direction. The crowd of ponies parted, to make way for the seething unicorn.

He dragged his body up the stairs, not being able to just simply walk up them, and finally made it to the top. He stomped his hooves on the upstairs floor, almost shaking the entire house. Out of view, his bedroom door slammed shut, the timber frame of the house began to creak from the force he had exempted.

at this point daydream was highly conflicted. he could help the guy who owned the place he was staying in by telling everyone to leave and cleaning up, or he could party. you see, they had cake, and a very nice cake too.

daydream needed to get everyone to leave without having them take the cake, and what is the best way to make people forget things...

hopping up a couple of steps daydream says to the crowd; "he's gonna be back, you all have to leave, now!"

the ponies started slowly picking things up, including the food.

"OH SWEET CELESTIA!" daydream shouted, looking around the stairs to a point the others couldn't see. to what was, in fact, a still closed door. "HE'S COMING, HE'LL KILL US ALLLL."

all the ponies in the room stopped what they were doing.

"EVERYBODY PANIC!" he said, finally.

it took two minutes for screaming, brightly coloured ponies to leave. well, most of them.

the next morning, monotone went downstairs to find his house spotless. sure that that pink hooligan and her gang of ruffians hadn't done it, he went to daydream's room to thank him. and to wake him up.

he opened the door to the room with his magic and, for a moment, thought to himself that maybe all the mess had merely been shoved in here.

crumb filled bowls, cocktail sticks, cups, glasses and two, no, three mares lay, sprawled around the room along with daydream, who looked quite happy with himself.

removing a pillow from under one mare's head with his magic and throwing it at another he shouts; "okay, everyone, out." as the four bedraggled ponies start to wake up he makes them each clean up a portion of the mess.

two hours later daydream had finished taking the last of the garbage from his room out and he came to sit down at the kitchen table with monotone, eyes still half closed, probably hungover.

sitting down, he drops a piece of cake onto the table; "ta da..." he says weakly.

"what is this?" questions monotone. "it's cake..." replies daydream as he looks around for anything to help his head. "i see that but... why?"

daydream decides to just go over to the sink and get some water. "because i thought you might wan--" daydream stopped himself, partially because he had just fallen over and partially because he just realised what he had said.

monotone floated the plate over to the bin and tipped its contents in. "i am meant to have work today." daydream groans, "i skipped it yesterday already, i can't afford to do it again" he pulled himself to his feet and started to sway towards the door. monotone watched as he leaves through the door, takes flight, falls, and trots into town.

Monotone lay in his bed. His expression vacant as he thought about all the events that transpired. 'Not even a fortnight and the town already hates me. All of them, they just don't understand the meaning of privacy. I would rather not be noticed than hated, but no pinkiepie has to go and ruin it all. Celestia dammit, why did i have to take this job? I could be just standing in front of the Canterlot gates right now; just me, my thoughts, and the tourists that try to get in without the proper documentation. Seeing their little faces screw into disappointment just makes my da-'

His thought was interrupted by a knock at the door. 'Who in the hell could that be? Probably mail, why would I get mail. Probably the mayor wishing to kick me out, even though I've done nothing wrong...'

Monotone slowly made his way down the stairs, careful not to trip. A few knocks of impatience hit the door.

"Coming! just give me a second, I'm trying not to snap my neck!" 'Even though it would probably give me a sweet releif from this wretched town'

"Oh, Sorry mister" A voice shouted from the other side if the door. That voice seemed familiar...

"Special delivery for- Monotone?" The crooked eye mare said in surprise. Whilst sporting a mail mare uniform

"Yes?"

"Oh, heh, sorry. Small world eh? Anyway sign here please". The mare held her pen on her mouth. The pen was wrapped in a field of magic and was scribbled along the page.

"Thank you Derpy, or Ditzy. Derpy?...Ditzy..."

"Either one's fine"

"Okay then, Ditzy"

'A conversation? How have i talked to somepony for more that 5 seconds, and not insulted them in anyway?' What's happening to me...'

"Stupid rainbow dash..." DayDream cursed under his breath. "You can't go into work because you're tooooo hungover. Meh meh meh meh meh..." He said in a tone that somewhat mocked the voice of the rainbow haired mare.

"You're going to have to be suspended from pay-" He stopped his insulting his voice to find that Derpy was in front of Monotone's house.

'This is it' he thought, his one chance

"Hey, Daydream in here?" The light grey coated mare queried.

"Oh, uh, I'm afraid he left for work half an hour ago"

"oh... okay..." She seemed slightly disheartened by that fact.

"No I'm here, I'm here" Daydream trotted from behind the mare.

"Oh! hi... heh heh" Ditzy's face went a slight red as she gently kicked the dirt.

"y-yeah, hi" Daydreams cheeks went a similar red twinge as they made eye contact, well, sort of eye contact.

"I've uh, gotta deliver these, heh... sorry."

"No no, It's fine you have a job...". They both stood there, much longer than they should have. The air was almost crushing from how awkward the situation was.

"Well... i'll just go then... away... from you..."

"Yes... you are..."

"Oh for the love of Luna's sweaty panties. Just ask her out already Daydream" Both of the Pegasus' faces turned to Monotone, their cheeks almost a emitting a red light. They faced each other again. Daydream produced a small*squeak* instead of what was meant to be speech. "Fine I'll ask her out for you. 7 o'clock, outside Sugar Cube corner. Can you make that time?" The mare's head weakly nodded. "Okay then. Ditzy do your job, Daydream get ready for tonight."

The grey mare flew off, chuckling to herself as she did so. Daydream on the other hand didn't know whether to hug Monotone or strangle him.

monotone was sure, for a couple of seconds, that daydream had done both but the "thank you" he heard from the grey pegasus told him that this was, in fact, a hug.

daydream had had a lot of mares in his life and most of them were just for a more fun place to stay than with a guy. but this one mare, she was a mare that daydream had wanted for years now. the problem was that this would require several changes in his attitude. another problem is that he rather liked his attitude.

he needed to stop seeing so many mares on the side, which would be hard, it was instinct, that and boredom, and it compelled him to do these things, and it was going to be hard to stop.

he also needed to court this mare, something he didn't have much experience with. he usually just took mares home as quickly as possible, this time he would need to take his time, make her love him. for real.

he stood, staring into the mirror, thinking these thoughts of his as monotone enters silently behind him. noticing him in the mirror in front of him daydream asks; "what should i wear?"

monotone, who was heading towards the bathroom at the time, says; "well i don't buckin' know, do i."

this brings daydream out of his own mind. he turns to monotone, who opens the bathroom door and grabs a bottle in his magic. "what do you mean?" asks daydream.

"augh, you did take my outhwash. buy your own." says monotone without replying. "actually i cant, i've been suspended and what do you mean?" daydream asks in a more demanding tone.

"why were you suspended. is it because you dont go to work and when you do it's either late, hungover or hoof in hoof with your boss. and while at work you normally just sleep or come back here anyway. now that i think about it. why weren't you fired before. well, i suppose you were sleeping with your bo--"  "what do you mean?!" daydream interjects.

"what do you mean, 'what do you mean'." replies monotone, trotting towards the door again. "why would you not know?"  after a pause monotone says; "well... i don't... like... ponies."

"i know that. but--"  " no i mean, like, like like other ponies..."

well, this is awkward. "you're asexual?"

"yeah, hey, look, it's quater to seven, time to go!" says monotone, picking up daydream in his magic and taking him to the door. on his way out daydream catches a glimpse of the clock in the kitchen. monotone drops him outside. "but--" the door slams in daydream's face before he can finish, yet he does anyway. "...it's only half past four..."

"Monotone: Relationships advisor" He called himself, proudly, whilst he limps away from the door and flops onto the couch.

He floats a near by newspaper towards him and glances at the headlines. 'Sadistic grey pony leaves Ponyvile in terror!'

'I hope they get that bastard...'.

A knock at the door grabs his attention. 'Wow, two ponies at the door in one day? I must be very popular, or the world hates me'.

He opens door to find Daydream's favourite boss.

"I need you to do me a favour" she says in stern voice.

"Daydream cheated on you?" He asks, she doesn't respond. She makes herself inside, closes the door with her hind hoof and snakes around the short unicorn. "Hey, excuse me, do you mind not barging your rainbow coloured ass in here?". Her back is turned to him, still no response. "Hello? Look whatever it is you wan-"

"I need you to hurt me"

"...what?" Monotone blurted, confused by what she was asking

"You need to break one of my limbs, any of them"

"what!? why? why me?"

"You're known to be a bit violent aren't you?"

"wh- wha-"

"Twilight told me about what you did whilst you were at school."

"Ah- look they threatened me with violence for my lunch money, I refused, one of them hooked me in the chin. So I broke his fore leg, and made one of his little comrades not able to mate anymore. Not like he deserved the right to anyway... But that's behind me, I don't try to hurt ponies any more."

"oh okay, I'm sure Rip-snort would have something different to say if he was still alive"

"He killed innocent foals in drug induced rampages! He deserved to die! I made it quick and painless anyway... wait how did you know-"

"well, you break my bones and I won't tell. Prison doesn't too awesome now, doesn't it?"

"But, why do you need to be injured?!"

"You don't need to know."

"I hate you"

"good. Now do it."

Monotone paused, thinking about how he was going to go about this, "okay... you're an avid flier right?"

"The wing, not bad..." She spread her right wing, it shook a little. She knew this wasn't going to end very well.

"just lie down on the floor. It makes it quicker."

She had dirty and immature thoughts flash up after he said that. But it wasn't in front of agenda right now, and for good reason.

She slowly descended to the floor and rolled on her back. Monotone stood over and raised his good hoof. The light blue mare tensed, bracing herself for what was to come.

Monotone hesitated, he didn't want to do this. He had never wanted to do this again. Not in a million years. Because he knew he would enjoy it.

He slammed his hoof down on to the mare's wing. catching it on one of the weaker joints with almost surgical precision. She screamed in torment as her wing snapped like a dry twig.

"hospital....rrrrgggg! now!"

He picked her up and slung her on his back.

Her hooves dragged across the floor whilst he carried her through the town. It was surprising to all the ponies that went past that a unicorn of such a size, an injured one at that, can carry a fully grown mare without so much as breaking a sweat. Not to mention the fact it was the same unicorn that caused so many of the residents anguish.

daydream had done really well. the meal was fun, conversation was nice. he even payed, he didn't need to use the money for much else so why not. now he was walking ditzy home, it was a beautiful night, the stars shimmered above and the sight of ditzy, illuminated by nothing but the light of the moon was amazing. on the outskirts of town, not too far from monotone's place, ditzy's house lay waiting. they stopped outside of her fence and looked at each other. daydream had the sudden urge to kiss her, but the part of his mind that wanted to court her like a gentleman went against this idea, so they ended up staring at each other for a full minute, getting more and more red faced. she leans forewards and kisses him on the cheek, seemingly embarassed she hurriedly opens the gate and goes to her house.

daydream bounced his way home, humming and singing to him self. he was so happy. she was so amazing and they had to do this again and nothing could be better and he had to tell monotone about this! yes! this was the best night of daydream's life.

his distraction by the joyfull thoughts in his normally otherwise head allowed him to ignore the fact that the front door to the house was already open. he was only alerted of anything abnormal when he slipped in a pool of blood.

panic filled his mind as memories of days past flooded back to him. "MONOTONE!" shouts the grey pegasus, unknown blood matting his tail as he writhes on the ground.

the lack of reply only works to raise his panic. "MONOTONE!" he shouts, getting up and shouting up the stairs.

maybe he went to the hospital? yes, with a wound bad enough to make that much blood, he would have gone straight there.

still covered in blood, the pegasus takes flight and bombs towards the hospital.

the shocked looks on the receptionist's face do not subside when he attempts to reassure her by saying; "don't worry, it's not mine."

whilst they were cleaning off the blood monotone spots daydream and enters the room he is in. "daydream," he says; wanting to get him to his boss as she wanted as fast as possible.

his appearence was met with a confused look, then an angry look accompanied by "why are you not hurt."

"i thought you might roll around in it." replies monotone, hardly attempting to hide the smirk on his face.

"i did not roll--" interrupting himself, daydream says; "who's blood is this."

"well..."

"yes?"

"your boss..."

"what?!" daydream shouts.

"she... it's complicated, just come on."

followed my several flustered nurses, daydream follows monotone down the hall and to a room where the bandaged pegasus lay, looking so out of character with her nervousness that he was not sure it was the right mare.

"may i speak with him alone." rainbow dash says to monotone in her most serious voice.

without uttering a word monotone leaves the room and closes the door.

"hey kid." says the rainbow colored mare to the confused stallion stood at the foot of her bed.

"what happened?" asked daydream, allowing more concern and panic into his voice than he meant to.

"i copped out." said the rainbow mare. "they were too close, i couldn't let them get me."

this only confused daydream further, causing him to say; "what in the blazes are you going on about girl?!"

sitting up as much as she could in her position; "do you remember the line you said that convinced me to let you leave."

daydream looked up at the camera up in the corner. "don't worry." the mare said, noticing the direction of his gaze. "monotone already took care of it."

"why is he being so nice for you anyway?"

"blackmail..." she said

this made him nervous, not only because she felt the need to blackmail monotone but because she had something bad enough to blackmail him with.

"do you remember the line." she returned to her origional question.

"n-no,  don't." he said.

"one day, these kid's families will come for us."

daydream felt uneasy.

"well guess what." she stared into his eyes in a helpless way he had only seen a couple of times before in the normally over-confident mare.

"what does this have to do with me?" daydream asked

"you were one of the best employees we ever had." she could see daydream's expression harden as she spoke. "you are one of the prime targets."

"and you opted out." daydream said, his normally airy and slightly joyfull voice now full of a cold hardness that she hadn't heard for years. "clever, a hospital, bulletproof windows. constant security. even a mercenary would give second thoughts to this place."

"and they will." she started to say.

"so here you come to hide, safe in the dark, while the rest of us are slaughtered outside."

she failed to mask her guilt.

"and you always pretend to be so brave..."

"daydream, there is something i need you to do."

he gives a single 'ha' towards the roof as he sits down next to the bed. "what could you possibly want from me. or am i not fired any more?"

"you need to ward the others." she said. watching his expression become slightly more concerned. "i know where they are, the list is in the book i asked monotone to bring." daydream looked at the side table. a copy of the first daring doo book lay there.

"i need you and monotone to make sure these ponies know what is coming."

The next morning the pegasus was far from his relaxed attitude. His eyes were sunken to his skull, stress overtaking his mind, and foreboding thoughts that couldn't escape his head.

"so... why are we corralling ponies?" Monotone asked, breaking the painful silence, whilst he shoved a sizeable revolver in his bag.

"I'm afraid I can't tell you"

"Why not?"

"look. Monotone...innoce-..." Daydream's face screwed into that of a guilty look as he caught his words. He avoided eye contact with Monotone to think about what he was going to say. "p-ponies are going to die Monotone, let's leave it at that..."

'What was he trying to say? Innocent? Why wouldn't they be innocent?' This further catalysed Monotone's suspicions, he was itching to ask questions and internally screamed for answers. But he knew he probably wasn't being the most transparent of ponies either, so he kept his place and asked no further inquiries, hopefully they would be answered by the end of this ordeal.

They both paced through town. Daydream's new expression causing looks of confusion to the residents, they expected to see the distanced, easy going pegasus, and only saw a tortured soul. Monotone was starting to look like the cheery one now. He turned sharply left towards a small cottage nearby. Monotone was so caught up in thought, trying to put the pieces together, that he went about 5 feet forward, before realising that Daydream had tuned off.

Daydream knocked on the door with his fore hoof, Monotone standing beside him.

"Why god mor-" The yellow pegasus behind the door paused when he saw Daydream stern look. "...D-does there seem to be a problem Daydream?"

"Monotone, could you give me a couple minutes with this fellow. Make sure NO ONE, gets close to this door."

"Can do..." Monotone said with an empty look in his face.

They both entered, the yellow stallion slammed the door shut, leaving Monotone with his thoughts

Several door visits later Monotone started to realise a pattern. They were all pegasi. He tried to recall any incidents in recent history that involved exclusively pegasi. 'A pegasus supremacist cult was caught by the royal guard, sacrificing unicorns and earth ponies... no, they would have a problem with a unicorn guarding them. hmmmmm, C'mon Montone think, Oh! The factory incident... nah, all the culprits were caught. At least I think so...'.

These thoughts continued late into the night. Monotone just lay there, a pool of information swirling around him, trying to turn into one current of reason. He needed answers, he craved them.

the following morning it was the now cold-faced pegasus who woke up the unicorn. kicking him with a forehoof they soon are both awake and preparing to leave, monotone packs a saddlebag with a triage of weapons both big and small. they leave early, wanting to avoid the crowds and needing to scope out the area surrounding the inn they were meeting the rest of the pegasi in.

the ponyville inn was one of the oldest buildings in the town, and one of the least well kept. a family owned business several rooms had to be closed off because the rooves were going to fall in and the owners couldn't pay for the repairs. the building must have had a total of ten lights throught.

the two ponies entered the dirty establishment and approached the front desk. an old mare was sat at the front desk, her movements slow and looking as if her bones legitimatley creaked.

"second room down the hall." said the mare, slowly raising some keys onto the desk in front of her. "thank you. we will be expecting visitors." daydream told her as he takes the keys and proceeds down the hall. monotone followed behind, when they came to the room daydream nudged the door. one of the hinges was disconnected and the door sagged diagonaly as it fell open. inside the room there was a single bed pushed up against the wall, a single light illuminated the room as dirty shutters filtered light onto the floor of the room.

after a few minutes ponies started to show up. eventually six pegasi were in the room with daydream and monotone. after they all filtered into the room daydream asked monotone to leave. he did so with a look that told daydream he was getting sick of this routine.

daydream stood in front of the small group of pegasi, back to the window. his cold, angry and yet empty eyes looked over the ponies in front of him. "you all probably have some idea of what you are doing here." daydream said, loudly and firmly.

"actually, no." said the yellow pegasus monotone recalled. staring at him with a cold yet helpless expression daydream says; "as it turns out, murdering foals opened the gateways to not only the dark afterlife, but hell on earth." his voice deepened and became more hoarse as he said this. the pegasi forming a curve around him started to show frightened expressions on their faces. "the parents of the... of the subjects have figured out that it is unlikely that so many accidents happen in the tests. oh, how cloudsdale are ever so good at cover ups." his joke only proceeded to make the other pegasi more scared.

"they want us dead." a deep red pegasus said much louder than anyone was ready for.

"yes." daydream said flatly.

"so you just came to... to warn us of our execution?" said the yellow stallion from before.

"no. i came to warn you to go into hiding. even your families cannot--" daydream was interruped by monotone running through the door as fast as his crippled leg would allow and throing himself at daydream. they fly back into the wall underneath the window just as bullets tear through it.

through the shards of broken glass daydream could see these terrified ponies stare into their imminent deaths just long enough to comprehend it.

bullets tore through their bodies, the yellow stallion cried out as a bullet tore through his throat, severing arteries. he falls into a pool of his own blood. a blue mare heads towards the door, but bullets shread her flanks and back legs, she rears up in pain, allowing bullets to hit her head, her head is thrown forewards by the force of the bullets, the door already being shot to pieces where her head lands. her head hitting the door throws it off of it's hinges, it flies to the ground and splits into several pieces.

the rest of the pegasi are shreaded into a fine red mist. eventually the shooting stops. daydream stares forwards at the bodies of his former ex-comrades as monotone, levitating two small guns up next to himself leaps up, firing the pistols at the perpartators of the crime with often unmatched accuracy. a large earth pony stood behind a gatling gun has a bullet hit his leg, severing an artery with near surgical precision, another bullet hits the pony's spine, cuting it off, he falls to the grouns, paralysed, but not dead. able to feel all of the pain he is experiencing. a smaller pony, seemingly just keeping a lookout for other ponies, wielding a shotgun in his hooves turns just in time to meet his face with the single bullet headed towards it. it tears through his skull, twisting chunks of his skull into his brain, he is dead before he hits the ground.

they knew they couldn't go back to the house straigh away. and rainbow dash needed to hear about this change in events.

"WHAT?!" she shouts; ignoring the pain in her wing as she sat up. monotone stood behind daydream, he wanted him no further than five feet away from now on. even if the incident at the inn had affected him. monotone hadn't said a word from when they climbed out of the window of the inn untill now, and he didn't seem to want to say anything either.

"they must have followed someone." said daydream, moving towards her, trying to calm her down. she grabs his forelegs; "do you know what this means? we are the only two left. we- we need to protect ourselves. maybe we can bribe them?" no one had ever seen her this distressed, she was usually so cool in any situation it was genuinley alarming to see her like this. "rainbow. rainbow, they can't get you here." said daydream, feigning his usual tone of relaxed calmness. "but what about you?" she said. staring into his eyes. "don't worry about me, i have monotone.

she looks to the grey unicorn, and then back to her employee, her friend. "take care of yourself." she says as he gets up to leave. "really..."

"i will..." says daydream uncertainly.

The two ponies walked away, drenched in blood and exhausted, both physically and mentally.

"Daydream... I'm starting to get the feeling that those pegasi deserved to die."

"well what makes you think that!" Daydream shouted at Monotone, the stress obviously starting to burden the grey pegasus.

"It's just i- i dunno, it's sort of a gut feeling..."

"Well, keep your feelings to yourself" Daydream hissed.

"Alright, fine" Monotone didn't want to provoke him any further, he knew those pegasi well. His lack of empathy towards that kind of thing wasn't helping the unicorn to be at least slightly compassionate.

They were almost at Monotone's house when they noticed something. Derpy's door seemed to be left open. Daydream ran up to the door to find that the handle had been shot off.

"oh no, OH NO!" Daydream shouted, probably the worst possible thing had happened. He charged in the house to see blood stains on the carpet. "no no no no no no no!". He spun around the main room and found that a note had been attached to the back of the door. He rushed over and grabbed it with his hoof.

'Daydream,

Your lack of co-operation and your unicorn friend has been causing us a lot of trouble, you need to pay for your crimes.

So we took the only thing you cared about.

She is held in the Green Dragon's cave in the centre if the Everfree forest, as shown on the map below.

3:00am, Come alone and unarmed. If we so much as catch a glimpse of any short grey stallions holding firearms, we will not hesitate to rip that 'special somepony's' head in two.

Don't keep us waiting.'

A crudely drawn map shows the location of where they have kept Derpy captive.

Daydream collapsed to the floor, in a fit of hyperventilation and weeping.

Monotone, floated the note to viewing distance.

"Oh sweet Celestia..." Monotone mutters in shock. "Daydream... what are you going to do?"

"...I need to go.... I can't let an innocent mare's child become an orphan."

'Oh no, she has a child? Shit.... Wait, 'pay for your crimes', 'innocent' mare? He has definitely done something... something bad enough to warrant an operation of this scale.'

monotone chased daydream all the way to the edge of the everfree. "wait, it's blatantly a trap. daydream. stop!"

the grey pegasus stopped just in front of the shadows of the trees of the everfree forest. monotone was still calling out to him but, with nay even a look back at his defender, daydream takes flight, soaring high into the sky over the everfree. the last monotone sees of him is him plummeting towards the trees, and then he is gone. monotone is left standing alone in front of the forboding shadow of the everfree forest.

dayream flew over the treetops of the forest, knowing what was coming. as the top leaves of the trees grased his belly he starts to think darkly on what he knows he is about to do. something he hadn't done in a long time.

he knows this cave, he had been here before and he knew how to get back. he flew into a tree near the cave entrance. two guards were by the cave entrance, there were no other ponies in sight. he sneaks around the rocky cave entrance and prepares to... suprise the guards.

armour plate was bored. him and this pony he didn't know were doing patrolls of this cave to make sure no one got in. but he hardly thought it was necesary in the middle of the everfree. the bosses had said that somepony would come looking for something in here but no one had come. frankly he was looking foreward to getting some fresh air, him and this other guard had had their break and he thought it would be a good idea to have it waaaaay inside the cave. when he had seen the light of the entrance he had been tempted to leap with joy, it was so dark down there and so... well, boring.as they neared the entrance they knew something was up. niether of the guard ponies who were meant to be here were not here. they poked their heads outside of the cave entrance and the sight that befell their eyes would strike a feeling of deep sickness into any pony heart. or it would inspire awe.

one of the guards who had been guarding the door was strung up in a tree in a most grusome manner. his jaw was completely missing and there was a gash in the top of his upper back, his eyes darted wildly as he inwardly writhed in pain, inable to show it, the ponies arms were strung together and held, high abouve his head, the head of the other pony, mouth agape and eyes removed, the still living pony was tied to two trees directily in front of the cave by slices of his own back held to the tree by the other pony's intestines. the legs of the other pony were propping up the first pony while the perpatrator of this grusome scene reveled in his own glory.

it had been a long time since daydream had killed but sometimes, in the factory, they needed to get creative, and daydream was good at creative.

the other workers of the factory would have told you that taking another pony's life is something you never come to grips with, that you never shake the guilt of. only two pegasi who worked in that factory ever actually enjoyed their jobs. rainbow dash and daydream.

inside daydream's head he can create thing, marvelous things. but those things never became a reality. he could topple emperors and kings, destroy buildings and create his own work but in real life he could never bring those ideas to fruition.

but when he killed daydream felt like god. he could improve them to no end and they were there constantly to see and appreciate his work in an intimate way an inanimate object never could. he tried it sometimes, creating other things, technology. he found it doesent have the same intamacy. the same texture, the same sound. it doesen't have the same movements as when you improve a pony. he was good at making technology, he was better at being god.

and here he is, he looks upon his masterpiece, once two seperate, lonely souls who were now one, together, forever.

he goes up to the face and stares into the scared, watering, darting eyes of his new work of art.

"why are you afraid?" he said to the mangled beauty before him. "do you not see how this is better, now you are both one" he lands on the ground and trots backwards to admire his work. "once, two lowly, solitary earth ponies and now;" he stands on just his back legs, sticking out his wings and forelegs and tilting his head. "you are both as one, a god."

as he lays his forehooves back on the ground he realises what he has done. after he left the factory he had changed, he felt for others, he had friends and he had not done anything like this.

these ponies who wanted to end the rainbow factory.

all they were doing was bringing back the rainbow factory in him.

he did not have much time to dwell on this because a sudden blow to the back of his head rendered him unconscious.

"Aaaaargh, shit", Montone cursed to himself as the pegasus disappeared from view.

'Welp, one of the only ponies i can tolerate is dead now... ugh,I'll guard Rainbow Dash then, I guess. In case those mercenaries get cocky.'

"You really don't need to stay here Monotone, they can't get me.". Said Rainbow dash, sat up in her bed.

The grey stallion kept silent as he stood by the open door way. Watching the corridor as patients, doctors and nurses buzzed from room to room.

"Ugh, fine have it your way... Where's Daydream anyway? Monotone?"

He couldn't hear her, she was only white noise. He didn't know know what to do. He abandoned the only two ponies he considered.... friends.... is that the right word? Monotone couldn't have friends. It was impossible. Were they really his friends? 'yes.... yes they are'

"You're right, I don't need to guard you any more."

The blue mare was surprised by his sudden burst of speech.

"He needs my help"

"Wait... what do you mean by 'hel-'" He was already galloping away. Her stomach sunk, Daydream obviously wasn't safe.

He finally saw it. He finally saw the true image of Daydream, in the form of two stallions sown together in a grotesque collection of bloodied body part strung up to a tree. Monotone had seen some things, really f**cked up things. But nothing on this scale. Not even one of the most elaborate curses could sum up a reaction the image that Monotone had to observe.

He heard a very silent, guttural wail. 'Oh, oh- one of them is still alive...'. He slowly paced closer, to find an eye writhing around, it looked down to fixate on Monotone.

The barely living pony said no words, but Monotone knew what the stallion wanted.

He slowly raised the shotgun that lay in its holster. the end of the barrel pointing towards the cranium of the mangled skull.

"I'm sorry" The sound of the escaping shell ripped through the formerly silent forest. The ponies scalp was reduced to nothing more than little giblets.

He heard rustling coming from the cave. He braced himself for what he had to do next.
