ChibbyBrony 3 July 25, 2014 Share July 25, 2014 Hello everypony, Does anypony have a difficult time overcoming intimidation when writing FiMfictions or drawing pony art? I've been wanting to write a fanfiction for a while now and have done a lot of brainstorming, but I find myself faltering simply from the sheer number of amazing FiMfictions out there. Even if I do decide to write the story just for myself, I still feel kinda like it's a bit of a hopeless endeavour. Does anypony else have this problem and if so, how do you overcome it? -ChibbyBrony Someday I'll wake up as a crystal pony <3 and everything will be awesome forever. (MARVEL) Blue Blood 991 July 25, 2014 Share July 25, 2014 I do that when I'm writing anything. When I wrote PinkiePEye, I thought, and still think that I'm gonna get a lot of flack, and to be honest, I don't mind constructive criticism, but not relentless backlash. Heck, I'm thinking of writing a Spider-Man comic series, but considering how comic fans are, I'm a bit nervous. Second in Command of the Marvel Alliance!!! Snow Frostflame 3,568 July 25, 2014 Share July 25, 2014 yes actually I have spent from spring to new years writing a fan fic and I'm still editing it and my friends and family I have showed it to have said its great and they love it but I get the feeling they are just sugar coating the truth so I have been very hesitant about trying to finish my fan fic because I can handle a few bits of criticism but I don't want hordes of people telling me that the fan fic I have worked on for a year and a half is terrible but I will probably get over it finish it and release it

I'm definitely nervous about getting backlash--I don't mind constructive criticism either and tend to take it rather well, but I don't like it when people say your story is terrible just for the sake of being mean and degrading. I also have a hard time finishing stories because of this @_@ I'm glad I'm not the only one who has these feelings of self-doubt about pieces of writing/art. RandomSelect 36 July 27, 2014 Share July 27, 2014 Personal experience, not really. In the old days, I wrote pokemon fanfics. Even though I see fanfic writing as a hobby, I do my best to do spell checks and make sure that they give readers something to enjoy and hopefully get positive feedback. If someone says something harsh without reason, I’d just ignore them. If someone does the same thing but with reason, I’d thank them for their constructive criticism, learn from experience and move on by reading other fics, taking examples, improving my writing skills and making future chapters better. 1 I'm your friendly neighbourhood voice actor and singer!
