A Wyvalist is an anthropomorphic reptilian creature common to the world of Alterra. A Valstaen is largely the same, except mammalian or avian. These creatures come in many different types or varieties based on several species. Both are characterized by a gem on their chest which heightens their abilities and makes them more powerful than humans. A key difference between Wyvalists and Valstaens, other than the fact that the two species have completely different societies and structures, are the elements they are able to use. Unlike humans, they are not as versatile and cannot use all of the elements. Wyvalists can use Fire, Air, Reality, and Nothing. Valstaens can use Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Mind, and Life. For instance, I am a Fox Valstaen, as demonstrated here in this badly drawn image: We have largely displaced the human population in Alterra, due to having more of an aptitude in Energy and generally being more evolved. This is the most common type of Wyvalist and I agree that it seems appropriate for you. They are a culture that is very technological, so they would appreciate a sentient number... provided you didn't blow up their computers like you seem to do to KOS-MOS. Pika. Pika pika pika. I've just read about the elements I could potentially use as a Wyvalist, and I really like the air and nothing elements. Just to make sure, when you say Wyvalists can use fire, air, reality and nothing, does that mean all Wyvalists can use all four of those elements, or each Wyvalists specalizes in one of those four elements, or does it work in another way I haven't considerd? All righty, here's a crash course on all of that. Basically, with a sentient species like the Wyvalists, every individual within the species has one element they specialize in. This is the one that they're really good at and is set at birth. But they are able to use any of the other three that is constrained to their species. The skill and aptitude largely depends on individual, and there may be some who can't use a certain element at all. But as a species and a whole, they can use Fire, Air, Reality, and Nothing. There's more complexities to the system like sub-elements, but I won't go into that right now because it can get a little nuts. But I suppose you could say that yes, I am a person who likes to jump around in a bath tub of chocolate. So, would it be possible for me to specialize in Nothing, which means I'm very good at that, and then also be rather good with Air but quite horrible at Fire and Reality? Also, is there a place where I can find out more about this? I'm finding it very interesting. I really love the element system! You've got it exactly! Well, there's no real place at this moment in time that isn't horribly outdated, because I'm currently in the process of constructing and world-building this whole thing. But you can ask me more questions and I'll answer them with the information that's currently up-to-date. I plan on sticking this all up on a website at some point when time becomes available to me, as well as writing a blog on these systems here. I don't mind this at all. In fact, I encourage it. This will help me to get my information better organized as well. Yes, there are other species which are sapient. Most of them have a very basic form of sapience and aren't really worth mentioning, however. They conduct their business in primitive tribes rather than advanced civilizations and generally keep their distance from the Big Three. Valstaens, because they are more nature-oriented, have the most amiable relationship with them. There are, however, eight notable individuals whose species is unique to them worth mentioning. They are the Guardians of the Elements and were the first creatures in all of existence to have sapience. Their powers are godlike and their lifespans very long, but they are not infallible or immortal. Any creatures (known as Creations) that evolved on Alterra have their sapience because of these Guardians and evolved as offshoots of them. The Guardians are basically pure embodiment of the elements, but don't really partake in civilization either. They wander around the planet, or in the case of the Reality/Nothing Guardians, the galaxy, and generally regulate the elemental levels. Humans are the only species equipped with that level of Elemental versatility, but in doing so, they sacrifice a significant amount of power. Most of my questions will probably be about the elements for now since they're really interesting me, but each answer can lead to even more questions, so I don't expect that to last long. What element do you, as a Fox Valstaen, specialize in? Are you notably proficient in any elements other that the one you specialize in?
