What is the relationship between the Wyvalists and the Valstaens? Are they peaceful towards each other, or do they have a more negative, perhaps violent relationship?

post-809-0-15708500-1406942937.png

They have quite a few quibbles and squabbles, particularly over the conflict of how to handle the still-existing humans, but they generally get along. Think of them like old friends who have known each other for a long time. Their relationship can get pretty vitriolic and even sometimes violent, but they still stick together when it counts.

He has been a bit... odd, but nothing too bothersome. Not to worry.

Would Wyvalists and Valstaens live in the same town or city, or do they only live in seperate towns/cities?

post-809-0-15708500-1406942937.png

It depends largely on the region. Although most regions have more of a majority of one than the other. For instance, the region of Arylettopia is around 90% Valstaen, whilst its counterpart, Ladragia, is 92% Wyvalist. There are also odd regions with roughly equal numbers of them, but that's rarer.

Heliolisk does appear to have taken quite a shine to you.

Look at that, he has fallen asleep, the little mite.

I sometimes have to go away for long periods. Would care to take care of him when I'm away?

Do you have a world map of Alterra? If not, could you describe the major locations in Alterra?

post-809-0-15708500-1406942937.png

Ah, this is something I don't have fully completed yet. That's because I'm not very good with locations, so I have enlisted outside help to do so. And I'm waiting for him to complete that when time allows.

However! I do have a long list of regions (there's 50 of them in the world) and some vague information about some of them:

  1. Arylettopia - The most important location, because this entire thing is named the Arylettopian series. It's a sort of tropical/moderateish region. At one point, it had a monarchy (known as a queendom, not kingdom), with nine different Queen Aryletts at the helm, but with the dissolution of human politics from Valstaen and Wyvalist cultures, it no longer is run that way. If you're wondering why my name is the same as this place, it is because I was named after Queen Arylett. It used to be a common name for females, but has since lost its use. This region is split into four districts - Arkra, Atnura, Charcill, and Valight. It is the defacto Valstaen capital of the world.

  2. Ladragia - The Wyvalist version of Arylettopia. This region sports the highest technology levels in the entire world, with Arylettopia only being second. Once, back when human politics reigned across the world, the two were constantly at war. Now they are simply friendly rivals. It is south of Arylettopia and also sports a warmish climate that is easy for Wyvalists to thrive in.

  3. Vonouni - A religious and spiritual center. Pronounced VU-OWN-NEE. It houses a roughly equal number of Valstaens and Wyvalists, who are all united in spiritual Psyche exercises. Because it is one of the last religious centers of the world, there is much conflict between the remaining religions, who are constantly squabbling and arguing. On the flipside, certain parts of this region can be idyllic and even peaceful. It all depends on where you go, and what religions are involved.

  4. Nocan Desert - A long sprawling desert with not much in it except semi-sapient, primitive tribe species.

  5. Noicen Isles - Frost-covered islands. Their most notable landmark is The Castle of Unbecoming, an invention that nobody knows how or why it was build. This castle causes whoever steps in it to become what is called a "Nothing," due to having a device that is constantly pelting Nothing-elemental waves in everyone's direction. A Nothing is a blank, emotionless creature which is no longer anyone specific anymore, not even remembering its own name.

  6. Stevania - A small quirky region full of quirky Valstaens.

  7. Pancrasia - Wyvalist version of Stevania.

I shall make it clear that that is not appropriate behaviour. I don't even know where he got the stuff for it.

It was most likely hammerspace! Yes, the Space of Hammers. This is a place where you can pull out virtually anything you want at any given moment, and when it stops being relevant, it disappears! So convenient.

Where do the remaining humans live? What is their society like?

post-809-0-15708500-1406942937.png

The humans live in several regions, mostly in Arylettopia and Ladragia. But they are sectioned off from the rest of society and live in Human Reserves. These reserves have their own independent laws and culture, and are protected from interference or attack.

Their society is similar to that of modern society in this world, but they are much more closed off and xenophobic. They're very traditional and are trying desperately to preserve their sadly underevolved species. Because there are significantly less of them as well, conflict rates are much lower.

Their society is very stagnant because it is dying off. Humans have little relevance left in the world anymore, and are only mostly useful for working in the Bloodstone Supermarket. Their options are limited. The only real hope left for them is to undergo Valstaen/Wyvalist Conversion, which is to change their species. (I underwent this myself. It is one of the few ways of dealing with humans that Valstaens and Wyvalists are in agreement about. Despite going against the general policy of Valstaens, they believe it is the least cruel way to deal with them and aren't made as uncomfortable by it because it is a biological change, not mechanical) But many of the humans who wanted to do this have already done so, and that leaves the staunchly stubborn ones who want nothing to do with either Valstaens/Wyvalists behind.

What is the Bloodstone Supermarket?

post-809-0-15708500-1406942937.png

The Bloodstone Supermarket is a large global corporation which is utterly dominant in Human Reserves and slowly gaining a foothold outside of that as well. They sell all types of goods, ranging from electronics, to food, clothing, etc.

They are... well, they're not exactly the most friendly of corporation. They underpay and overwork their employees, and generally take advantage of humanity's desperation. Also, they are involved in several shady dealings and conduct experiments of questionable ethics behind-the-scenes.

What does Arylett (your character) do for a living?

post-809-0-15708500-1406942937.png

I (in the world of Alterra rather than this world) don't do anything for a living at the moment, living off of the support of others. (Like Lunaris, in the Human Reserves. The Valstaens/Wyvalists have a completely different system which does not involve currency and I haven't become fully integrated with them yet) However, currently, I'm on a journey to become a Witch.

Since currency doesn't exist, is there an alternative system in place to allow goods to be exchanged? Does everyone use bartering instead?

post-809-0-15708500-1406942937.png

We're still working out the details on that, but basically, it is a type of bartering. Except anything necessary to existence (food, shelter, etc) does not fall in that system and is freely provided. This is because a combination of the Valstaens and Wyvalists' biological/mechanical technology makes such things very easy to produce and are essentially worthless in terms of rarity. Them working together assures that needs are met.

For things that are non-essential, there is a system of ranks. Every item is assigned a rank and items within the same rank may be fairly exchanged. Of course, people can also choose to dismiss the ranks and just give out an item for nothing, or an item of lower rank. But mostly, they stick to the ranks for fairness and ease.

You said your character is on a journey to become a Witch. What is a Witch in the Alterra universe? Is it a title for someone really good at spells, or does it mean something else?

post-809-0-15708500-1406942937.png

A Witch is one who is very skilled in Psyche. It is basically a title for that. They're typically very good at spells, but one can also be one who thoroughly understands the mechanics of Psyche. They have a number of applications and jobs they can pursue, because their wide variety of abilities allows them to contribute to many things. There are many sub-types and specialties within being a Witch, because it's such a broad field.

Do those good at Impulse rather than Psyche have a different name, or are both known as Witches?

post-809-0-15708500-1406942937.png

They have a different name. They're known as Knights, regardless of whether they use swords or act in a typical knightlike fashion. Many Knights don't actually use swords anyway. There's a lot who just use their fists.

What weapons are commonly used in Alterra?

post-809-0-15708500-1406942937.png

Every and any kind you can imagine. Swords exist, staffs exist, guns exist, but then there's bizarre mechanical devices that Wyvalists like to use, natural weapons enhanced by Impulse or Psyche like claws which Valstaens and Wyvalists both have, rocket launchers, etc. The sky is truly the limit in a world dominated by a special type of Energy.

The more I hear about this world, the more interested in it I become. Combat in particular sounds extremely fun and awesome thanks to the in-depth element system and the variety of weapons! When you finish everything, I'd love to roleplay in it. I almost already have a character for it anyway!

My weapon of choice will probably be a sword, so what ways could a sword be enhanced by Impulse of Nothing and Air elements?

It'll probably take us a really long time. We want to make sure it's good and I am rather meticulous about it in particular. But I encourage others to stick themselves and their characters in our world. I like to see others contributions to this project.

A sword could be enhanced in rather typical ways - just by making it surge with elemental energies and bonking people with it. Of course, for Nothing, one could slash a hole in the fabric of Reality which could potentially absorb/decimate enemies into Nothingness. Or to make the sword intangible, slash the person without them even knowing what happened, and waiting for the Nothing effect to fade as they just realize they've been slashed and are harmed. For Air, it would be possible to decrease wind resistance and use it at much higher speeds than is typically possible, not to mention the idea of throwing it and using the air to spin it around to create a sword tornado.

Those are just a few examples I came up with on the spot. There are many different ways these elements could be interpreted with weapons and Impulse.

Is there any way for me to contribute to the project? I'd be happy to help out in any way I can!

Anyway, I just read through the list of elements again and I want to clarify something about Space, the sub-element of Nothing. Would it be possible to use this element to do things like walk through a wall, or to attack others through a wall?
