As someone who joined the fandom late, what did I miss?

I have only one regret when it comes to joining the MLP fandom: The fact that I didn't join sooner.

 

I joined the fandom around July of last year, so from the beginning till then, what were the biggest events that happened in the fandom? What were some of the most popular episodes at the time? What were some of the things everyone celebrated or freaked out over? Fill me in. I feel bad that I missed out on it

 

Older members of the fandom: basically just reminisce on fond memories of the fandom, and at the same time give newer members like me a history lesson.

Yes. This. Yes. Derpygate was probably the biggest event of the fandom back in season 2. Then there was the fighting is magic C&D and stuff. Among other things. Like us getting media coverage for the first time... and it being negative. (Thanks Fox news) 

 

Other than that I wouldn't say you missed a lot of hings, it's just a lot of older things now were new back then and they were big.

 

I remember EQD doing a couple articles where they talked about all the major events of the fandom. If I can find It I will give links but it is a bit old.

btw I joined September 7th 2011. That day I will not forget. Almost been here for 3 years.

The one thing I miss the most is Ghost the host with the most.

 

Well, that's not the thing I miss the most. I miss being excited for new Fighting is Magic news and Mr. Poninator still making animations after each new episode. My only regret is that I didn't joint these forums sooner. I was a lurker for a long time before I joined them and I didn't talk much about the show when I first became a Brony so it would've been a nice relieve to be able to talk about the show early on when I was still so super hyped about it.

 

Not that I'm not still hyped about it!

Season 2 started with some drama over Lauren Faust no longer being showrunner. People didn't realize that Lesson Zero was an unusually deconstructive episode and were worried that was the new direction of the show. After Sisterhooves Social, things mellowed out. People were estactic to know that there were still songs when May The Best Pet Win came out. 

 

Fandom wasn't quite as developed, and in particular, there were fewer big animation projects. 

 

Derpygate... I actually missed quite a bit of it since I was somewhat disinterested in the fandom at that point.

 

Season 3 had a lot. Of drama. It's still a point of contention amongst bronies, especially its finale. On a lighter note, the Bronystate stream got hacked during One Bad Apple. I found it strangely hilarious.
