Faith Formation 3 August 26, 2014 Share August 26, 2014 (edited) Alright, to explain the above, we're a plural system. Never heard of plurality? Plurality: The state of two or more non-physical minds/souls/beings/people/whateveryoucallit occupying one physical body. To be clear, we don't have MPD/DID, we're not possessed, and we're not tulpae (though we did see a wonderful thread on tulpae on this forum, we've just never had a clue how to make tulpae at all). We're not traumatized, we're not split, we don't have a host/original/core (no one matches the body) and this isn't a religion (rather, we're Christian; and for the record, we are very accepting of other beliefs). We were born this way, and it's simply personal belief and experience. It doesn't make us better or worse than anyone else; we just consider ourselves to be a bunch of singlets (non-plurals) stuck together with one body. We really can't prove anything, either, but we know what we feel and have gone through. If you really just can't believe us, then the least we ask for is the basic respect to not ignore our beliefs. A lot of people ask us what pronouns to use to refer to us, but first some explaining is required. At the moment, we're what we call "blendy", which is basically us working together - no one individual controlling the shared body. When we're blendy, or when referring to us as a system instead of to an individual in the system, "you all" or "ya'll" is perfectly fine. When an individual is fronting (controlling the body), and tags their forum post (leaves their name at the end of the post to denote who is writing), then pronouns for their gender is appropriate. Most of us are male, but there are quite a few females, and some genderless. (In which case, "xi", "ze" etc are fine for pronouns.) Even if you are skeptical of plurality (that's your business), we just ask that you refer to the guys as guys, the girls as girls, etc, and not ignore us as people if you are going to be talking to us. Please and thank you. Another common question is how many of us there are. We're working on a completely headcount (we're lazy..) and a rough estimation is a couple hundred. Also, quite a few of us are otherkin/therian/metapos, but that probably won't be mentioned much here. And everyone seems to ask what it's like to be plural. Well, it's a lot like being singlet, only your family shares your body with you (though our body doesn't "belong" to any one of us). We sure didn't choose each other, after all. We have an innerworld/headspace, which is where we go when we aren't fronting, and it makes it easy for us to interact with each other. (Even though we can already share thoughts/emotions.) Anything that applies to us (beside being stuck with the same body) can apply to a singlet. Yes, singlets can have innerworlds. Singlets can have non-human identities. Etc. Being plural is just another state of living. On origins, everyone has a different theory, but overall we tend to believe that God put us together for some reason (we have no clue what that could be), but we certainly would not believe in much if not for God (we tend to struggle with doubts, even to the point of brushing off our experiences, which we really shouldn't.) Some believe they've had past lives, etc, and though we believe in spiritual "causes" we aren't against psychological theories at all, though they don't seem to fit us very well (unless we were born with very different brain wiring..) And to make sure it's clear, because we know it can be very confusing, we prefer to be referred to as a crowd that happens to be together, rather than one person who is many people, as that just isn't accurate, and we aren't our body. And as for individuals, we'll probably have everyone who wants to post here put a brief introduction on our profile. Well, that should be everything major on plurality... So as for MLP. Not all of us are interested in the show, but quite a few are. To us, MLP is a little like a happy escape from the drama and hate we tend to face, being plural. We like to think that if the MLP world was real, that they would probably be accepting of plural systems. It's nice to think about, and we also love the values it teaches. We learn quite a bit about getting along with each other in the system from that show (after all, if we mess up our friendship, we can't get away from each other). And it's just so colorful, cute and fun.. what's not to like? We've been looking around for a community where we can be open about plurality and not be trolled, hated on, banned, etc, (Yes, we've had forums ban us for trying to explain plurality before) and thought a community that shares the same values would probably be just the place. For once, we just want to be open without feeling like we're walking on eggshells - it always seems like if we say the slightest thing wrong, suddenly everyone turns on us. Well, we're not perfect, and we just can't stand that anymore. Our theories/opinions of ourselves change over time as we learn more and more about our system, so years from year, we could potentially hate this intro. But everyone changes over the course of their life. All of that said, we are very welcoming, and downright encouraging of curious questions, comments or thoughts. So please, feel free to ask us anything, everypony (also, feel free to PM us anything)! And thank you for having a great community, we look foward to participating in it!
