Do you think MLP could pull another coup against Celestia?

But one with 'commoner' ponies, rather than her sister? Maybe some who are dissatisfied with a certain pony sister in power? (or do you think the coup would worl only against one sister, and not both, since likely, Luna will step up and defend her sister if someone tries to overthrow her?) I was thinking about how interesting it might be if unicorns still had knowledge of the spells that the past generations of unicorns did to lower the sun and moon before Celestia and Luna came to power, and could get 6 (or more) together again, to do just that. (as was mentioned in the Journal of the Two Sisters), and try to just go for an all out government of anarchy or something.

How would this fit into the context the show? It would be very difficult to fit a lesson of friendship into this idea

It's possible. It might be a way to put in some political intrigue; which is something that I find very interesting and engaging in literature and media. Could be something like a power-hungry unicorn sowing the seeds of discontent among the nobility.

It'd be interesting to see how they could handle such a subject in a kids show.

working together as and with friends to do something you think is right? (even though some might consider it wrong?)

This seems like a bit of a plot arc; I imagined that this would have to be spread out over a season to work. It is an interesting idea.

It could be interesting thing to see some political subterfuge in the magical land of attractive cartoon horses. To see some people who are dissatisfied with Celestia allowing all these attacks to occur just to test out her shiny new Twilight toy, and to see them create some sort of plot to remove her from power would be interesting. But with Celestia merchandise selling well, I don't see it happening.

if DHX could get the greenlight for that epic season 4 battle with Tirek and Twilight, a little political stir and discontent amongst the ponies being ruled shouldn't be a problem, if done right.

I mean, it could start out with Celly trying to raise the sun, one morning, but finding that its resisting her magic, while at the same time, the moon is being forcibly held in place, and maybe her first suspicion is Discord pulling pranks or something, before we learn (eventually) that its some group of unicorn friends who are dissatisfied with the ponies in power, and want to coup.

I'm down with another season-long story arc. They did the keys one well.

As soon as Celestia is threatened, her faithful student is going to come to the rescue, and there follows the rest of the Mane Six, and there follows Discord. That coup would be squashed within the hour.
edit: make Twilight doubt her all-powerful leader, and this may have a chance of succeeding.

Maybe. If the crew can find ways to fit that kind of thing into the show with ponies in Equestria pissed off at Celestia when they finally find out about her misdeeds when they were considered a sign of a blessing in disguise for every crisis that they were all in.

If that was somehow included, then Celestia could probably learn a huge lesson about friendship and family as well as learning a lesson about being honest with herself and others in terms of what she does for the greater good and for her family and friends.

If the dissent was spread enough, the sisters would have no choice but to step down. What's a leader without her subjects? So maybe it'll be a case of Celestia stepping down and letting the nobles or whomever take charge but before leaving says "be careful what you wish for" and the dissenters learn how hard it truly is to maintain Equestria.

Although I would love it if there were some evidence that proves Celestia isn't the benevolent princess we all thought she was, and that she has to step down & Twi & friends try to restore her image, especially when it is some of the mane 6 or even Twi herself who have lost faith.
