There's no evidence that Star Swirl was Discord. Also note that Star Swirl was around the first time Tirek shows up and actively thwarts him. When Tirek comes around again, he KNOWS who Discord is and addresses him like an old friend/acquaintance. Tirek could have learned this after he escaped. Since he learned Cadence was a princess.
