How does a pony themed anime sound?

I made a thread a while ago about the idea of an MLP anime, but now I wonder what an anime that has ponies, but has nothing to do with MLP. In here, it could be an IP of its own. It may start off as a manga, but the world it takes place in could be a vast detailed fantasy world. Imagine if all we known about the world in FiM was just less than 5% what else we could learn about it, ranging from locations/countries/continents, characters, creatures, races, historical events, etc, we would learn way much more of the anime's world than in FiM. The anime's world would be rather similar to FiM, like having additional races like griffons and dragons, different cities having their own technologies (like Cloudsdale and Manehattan), tons of creatures from mythologies, alicorns, etc.

 

The anime itself would have a varied story, some episodes being slice of life, some funnier, some sadder, some having romance, some darker, and some more adventure oriented, it would simply go beyond what FiM could ever do. Every year it could have a movie to go with it, each being more epic in scale than the series. There could also be additional media like OVAs, specials, etc. It could also have a large cast of characters, with a highly flavored range of personalities, and many villains/antagonists too. Many characters may have highly fleshed out backstories. The animation style wouldn't be too much like FiM, but it'd have a few similarities (such as the character deigns), but the biggest difference is that it wouldn't be animated in flash like FiM is.

Hmm... It could work. I like the kinds of fantasy worlds you described since I watch Fairy Tail frequently.

I can only imagine the main characters being humans however, it seems that the majority of the anime demographic would prefer to see humans as their main characters for reasons I don't know.

The manga surely would be interesting to see that kind of adaptation and see how the manga translates into the anime form.

10/10 would watch (and read).

I'm sure it worked well for Sonic X having non human characters (even though the majority of them were in fact humans, but it wasn't originally going to be that way).

But yeah, the manga would be the catalyst for the anime, just like for Dragonball, One Piece, Naruto, and other anime-adapted mangas. This manga (and anime) would basically be everything that FiM isn't, and what bronies want it to be, while still much of it being slice of life. Instead of having a "mane 6", there'd be a larger cast of main characters (both mares AND stallions, as well as some love interests.

 

While the manga/anime series would be mostly slice-of-life/comedy/romance/adventure-ish, the movie serious would be more epic in scale, having more action packed, darker, and sadder moments, but still have some humor involved.

OVAs would mostly be random adventures, not up to the scale of the film series, but would have a slightly bigger scope than the TV series. Same for the animation quality, not as elaborate as the movies, but better looking than the TV show.

 

Specials would mostly be side stories

I already consider it kind of like one, the art style is similar and actually when I first saw it (my first glimpse was of someone's animated Derpy-trying-to-look-innocent avatar) I didn't even know it was MLP - I thought it was some random anime.

 

But in the Pokemon style where it's cute and positive.  

 

Also it is one, in the form of Tomodachi wa Mahou 

 

I don't think I'd want the typical shonen type stuff where it has dark moments and deaths and whatnot.  They have some great messages, they're extremely wholesome, but MLP is my "sweet (without being ridiculous) world".

 

Please remember that I previously stated that I wasn't talking about an anime about MLP, but an original world that's more like a derivative to MLP..

It could go very well if a lot of time and effort (especially with editing) was put in, but if attempted would probably end up being terrible.

I don't think ponies would work in an anime setting. Maybe they could for certain elements, but definitely not a fully-fledged anime like the ones out there.
