Spare Dream

What’s your extra dream, just in case your primary cherished dream won’t come true?

Seems like my main dream will never come true, but I often see a home in these rare cases when I have the dreams. The wood-framed one, with big white porch, like in this song. With an enclosure nearby, full of horses (and ponies too!) With huge and powerful chevy truck. With caring and loving wife (or husband, I don’t mind) And placed somewhere in wide opened prairies, where is always warm, where is so much light fresh air and freedom. In the a country I could consider as my homeland, no matter where I was born and no matter how good or bad this country is. In sum, I’m dreaming ’bout place to belong. Oh, looks like I’m too country. Well, I am. :toldya:

Whether your dream (primary or secondary) will come true or not, depends solely on you. So it will never come true only when you say so (way to program your own failure from the very beginning :P), unless you dream about something "impossible". But then, again, for something to be impossible, there are always some conditions which have to be met which make that thing "impossible". But then, if someone doesn't know about them, one can break these rules unknowingly, or – knowing them – one can break these rules deliberately to make the impossible possible. To provide an example, I did it several times already myself, one of them with a thing as "impossible" as the very division by zero. So if this is possible, what isn't? You just need to find the way leading to it. And find the conditions which make it impossible and then break them ;)

Honestly, I can’t agree with this. People often say, “if you really want somethin’ is it nothin’ impossible.” If everythin’ would be so simple... But the truth is, the older you’re getting the less choices you have. When you’re young, you can become whatever ya want, all the roads are opened. But with age the range of your possibilities is gettin’ narrow. There are a lot of factors you can’t avoid or break. Some of tasks take many years to complete, and if you’re not young enough you may not have enough time for it. Even though there are some “unique” persons, like someone who could manage to start his absolutely new career at 50 or, like one elder here, workin’ on his vegetable garden at age of 90... Some people can live 100 years or even more, but it doesn’t cancel the fact most of men still can’t. And some dreams are more reachable than others. As a reasonable man one’d better to has a spare and more reachable dream, that’s why I’ve started this topic.

@SasQ, while your advice is definitely good, I can also appreciate your side of the argument, @Alia.  We should always believe in our dreams and not set ourselves up for failure, but not everything is up to us.  My primary dream is to find my true love.  No matter what I do, no matter where or how long I look, it may never happen.  There may not be anyone out there for me.  In all likelyhood, there probably is, but finding her is another story.  It isn't simply a matter of determination, like if I want it enough I can just make it happen.  It doesn't work like that.  Some of it's random chance, some of it relies on that other person.  It's not all me.  I don't know what to do if that dream doesn't work out.  I don't have a spare.

And btw, @Alia, are you specifically going out of your way to talk like Applejack, or is that just natural?  I kinda like it.

Oh, I can write in many different ways, but mostly I like this one and use it wherever I can. Dunno why, but I like everythin’ is about country life. Maybe I should saw off my imaginary horn someday and start to live like an earth pony.

Let me just say that the idea that our dreams coming true is entirely dependent on our own actions is a little naive. There are some dreams that require the interaction and input of other people and if you can't get anyone to take interest you're dead in the water. This is particularly true with artists who's entire career is dependent on the reactions of other people.

It's the same for businesses. You can open a shop but if no one actually buys at your store, or if there's too much theft, you'll go under and it's unlikely you'll be able to do it again for many many years, if ever again.

---

I'm not particularly a dreaming type of person. What few dreams I have are typically very small and have too much grey area.

For example, I want a family and to have a room filled with thousands of video games and a house of my own to put both in. To do that, I require a job but I don't particularly know what to do nor care what type of job it would be as long as I had a way to get into that field.

On top of that I actually have to have a girlfriend to even think of starting a family but I don't have one and I'm not one to search for one as if she's merely a part of a puzzle rather than finding someone I actually legit care for which takes patience and improvement of the self. I won't be one of those dumbasses who assume a girl should love me for being me when I have nothing to offer in return.

I want to be able to support a family as well as my gaming lifestyle. I don't want to have to choose one or the other because both will be a huge part of my life.

So in my case my dreams have far too much grey area. I need a job but don't have a field to get into nor do I have a way to get into it. I want a potential life mate but I don't know who that would be nor do I know if there's anyone that would even like me in that way.

That's my primary dream. If all else fails I'm okay with living on my own the rest of my life. I just need to find a sorta well-paying job to support my gaming and living conditions.
