"Yeah I think you're right in there. I wonder... I mean I've never heard of your kind before, but actually I'm quite sure Luna did already know of vampire ponies. Being the wise princess she is, she probably kept that a secret though." NightStrike smiled when looking at her sideways. "You know, being employed by the lunar agency does have it's advantages. I have seen the great princess actually... and maybe I could call upon a few favors I've left from completing my missions to let you see her too... if you would want to that is?" He asked her politely.

"Oh no, NightStrike it's fine, it would be an honor but it was just a dream. Besides I have to settle down, prepare myself for what I have coming. As you too" she said walking along the grasslands. Deep down Rosetta's dreams were only pathetic, as her father told her to never have dreams, for try get in the way of what she is foretold to do.

 

The journey to Rosetta's home was to be long for traveling by the night and resting during the day. While traveling to there destination Rosetta did contemplate on whether NightStrike really did love her I mean, she could see how he would fall for her but she had a very hard time believing it. Her father had always told her that love was just a game and it was only a mirage that mortals used on vampires to sucker them into there traps. Was NightStrike really in love with her she thought, or was it all a trick?

Giving her a surprised look NightStrike shook his head in disbelief "Just a dream? But I've seen a lot of ponies getting very happy when their dreams came true. He wondered why she acted like this. He had seen her warm side too but sometimes she just seemed so cold. He wondered it was because of her youth.

"Silly things like dreams are but a waste of time, they get in the way. Father never allowed me to have dreams, I don't need dreams to help me throughout my life, dreams can't feed me, dreams can't make me stronger, dream only prepare you for the sadness and disappointment it leads you in. Vampires don't dream of petty thing like that, which you should never mention to anypony when we get there." she said continuing her walking.

"But...." He bit his lip "Well I guess you're right then. If that's the way you think about about dreams. I've been helped a lot by my dreams though. Accomplishing your dreams gives you confidence to take on even greater challenges." He smiled a little thinking back of the dreams he had accomplished. "And don't you worry." He continued "I won't tell a soul. Word of honor!"

 

They had been walking for a good few hours now and even though they were still walking in familiar territory for NightStrike he knew they went somewhere where he didn't know the lay of the land and the dangers at all. He made a mental note to be even more careful as he usually was.

 

He mumbled softly not realizing he was speaking out loud "Wow she really looks beautiful during the night..."

"Anything wrong you do, other vampires will think less of you, and dishonor you. You would be a disgrace to the clan and eventually forbidden. That's why it's very important that you make NO mistakes, no slips, no trying again, you make one mistake and I would probably never see you again. But like I said I have confidence that you'll succeed, and win over all. I will teach you everything that you must do and not do, and if I can I might convince other colt to teach you the things that male vampires do." she said with hesitation. 

 

Rosetta had faith he'd win, but not enough to believe it was true. She only made it sound like she did to boost up NightStrike's assurance. But deep down Rosetta worried sick to her stomach, that the other stallions would crush him, break him, or worse...but Rosetta had to stop this, negative thinking always lead to doubts, and so the mare tried not to think that he'd lose but win. For even she whether she'd like to admit, her feelings were growing, she was caring, the cold harden shell that was around her heart for year was slowly melting, all because of him.

"So there's a big difference in the way male and female vampires act then? I did not know that." He replied softly to her. "You know, I just really hope I'm up for the test. I'll give it my very best of course and honestly, no bragging or something.." He smirked "But I do have an excellent spotless job record. There has never been a thing asked to me by my superiors that I couldn't do. And honestly I'm not planning on doing so now." He gave her a warm smile.

 

As they continued walking for a while he hesitated but finally he asked "You know Rosetta, you told us that we'd probably have to walk day and night to get where you live in a reasonable time right? And even though I think we've both got quite some endurance, I think that at a certain point, we'll both need to rest right?"

"Oh of course, why you feel tired? Because I'm thirsty a little midnight snack wouldn't hurt, besides we've been traveling for quite some time and well the night doesn't last forever unfortunately so I'm going to have to get something to eat while you can rest" she answered as the mare started sniffi out for food.

 

"If I can't find food, NightStrike which is most likely thing to be the case, I will postpone my hunger until we get there which by my calculations shouldn't be so far from now." She added as she stopped walking and finding somewhere to sleep.

"wow" NightStrike said quickly "Heh nono it's not like I'm tired and all. It's just that I think we could both use some regular rest." Actually he was getting pretty tired. NightStrike was used to trotting over long distances but what Rosetta did was entirely new to him. And he did want himself to be top fit when he would challenge the others for Rosetta.

 

"But eehm" He mumbled softly "If you want to Rosetta, I could help you find some food? I mean I wouldn't want myself to rest while you would be working getting yourself some well deserved blood.

"No, no NightStrike it's okay, I need to rest away, I can tell you right now that we are getting close. Rest is why we need right now. Come now, let us rest I promise you I will feed the next night, you can rest or eat whatever you wish, but for now I will rest" she said after she found a nice spot to lie down.

 

"Don't worry about me, I'll be fine" she added yawning as she slowly closed her eyes.

NightStrike accepted her reply nodding to her. "Well okay Rose.. I mean Rosetta" He blushed as he quickly corrected himself. "I'm not really hungry so I won't eat anything either."

 

As he lied down own the cold ground a thought entered his mind. He was not sure whether to ask but in the end decided to do so. "Eeehm Rosetta? Would it be okay if I lie down somewhat closer to you?"

Rosetta blushed faintly, she looked away and thought about it for a second then turned back facing him. "Well I suppose so, be my guest." she said as she could feel her heart beating faster the moment he laid beside her. "Rosetta try to stay calm, he's just beside you..very close, BUT still just resting. Come on stay calm, why must you be so nervous around him.." she thought as the mare looked the other way not to make things awkward.

NightStrike gently lied down next to her turning himself to face her looking at her with a somewhat love drunk expression. He was not realizing that he was making the whole situation slightly awkward with his stares. "I wonder how a pony can be as beautiful as she is. I mean just look at her, how can a stallion not fall in love with her." He smiled sheepishly not realizing he did.

The mare was slowly looked at him with that facial expression he had. She blushed as Rosetta had to ask, "Uhh...NightStrike you okay..?" she asked as she turned back looking at her hooves nervous and still blushing. "I wonder if he's been staring at me this whole time...why would he be looking at me??" she thought as she tried to not look at him.

NightStrike gasped for breath jumping up suddenly realizing how awkward he must have made the situation for her when he saw her blushing like that His black fur flustered with bright red as he covered his mouth with a hoof in shame. "Owh excuse me so much Rosetta! It wasn't my intention at all." He grimaced shamefully pawing at the ground with his hoof.

The vampire mare shook her head with doubt she even begin to speak, "oh no, no, no NightStrike please do not fret, n-nothing m-more to w-worry about...ehehehe.." She finished as she knew deep down she like this closeness towards the stallion. She wanted more but how? How would Rosetta get even closer? It was at that moment she thought of something that was sure to work, it just had to work. The mare with a bit of blush on her cheeks cleared her throat as he slowly turned back to him. "NightStrike, may I ask you for a little favor, if you will...you see my mother once told me that everything makes a sound, therefore having a meaning behind it. Would you mind if you listened to a sound for me and tell me what is the meaning of it?" She said asking the stallion with hope bursting inside her mind, awaiting the soon answer that was sure to be a yes.

NightStrike gasped his mouth open wide out of surprise. He had expected her to say something different than this. "Eeehm sure Rosetta, eehm I guess I could listen yeah? I mean... apparently I've a good sense of hearing.. well for a mortal that is."

 

He sat down on his rear a blush still present on his face as he perked his ears up listening to every sound, directing his attention towards her. "So what kind of sound where you thinking of Rosetta? I mean.. I'm honestly a bit confused by what you're planning to do but hey... I couldn't refuse a favor from you if you asked me one." He smiled a bit shyly

Rosetta giggled as she pointed to her chest "Right about here, you need to get closer in order to listen better" she answered blushing quite a lot.

 

"Now, tell me what does it mean to you..what sound like this within my chest cavity could mean to you, NightStrike? Does it make you happy?~" she asked as she awaited for his answer. As a female vampire Rosetta knew that at this time she needed closure. Before any choosing it was important that she was acquainted with the other males. NightStrike was the only male who would get this in advance, so he was the first of the many other males to be acquainted with her emotionally, mentally, and physically.

"Listen there eeeh sure okay" NightStrike said surprised but smiling. He lied down in front of her his head under hers and perking up her ears listening to her chest. "Well to me... your heartbeat sounds strong proud. Actually.. I can't help but to spy a little excitement in there too now?" He sighed happily "To me it sounds steady and reassuring but also warm and passionate. And it makes me happier than any sound I've ever heard." With a soft sigh he lied down and relaxed completely with a small smile. "It is the best sound"

Rosetta blushed as NightStrike words left his mouth. Rosetta's pupils got sharper as she got more excited. "Oh my, such words...such meaningful word.." She replied as the mare stretch out her wings and put one over him as she tucked him in closer to her. "NightStrike..we should get some rest, we have a lot to cover.." She added after she gave him a tiny nip behind the ear. It was a sign of affection, and was quite rare to see this side of her.

NightStrike blushed himself as he felt himself being tucked in nice and comfy under Rosetta her wing. He never imagined her wings would be so soft and warm. He snuggled into them with a very content sigh and moved his ear in a reflex as he felt her nib behind one of them making him chuckle softly. He yawned softly "yeah rest sounds like a great idea Rosetta." He closed his eyes and felt himself dozing off.

Rosetta smiling feeling so content having him snuggling into her space, it was at this moment that she let out a sigh of relief. As night began to turn to day the mare started getting tired, she lowered her head down on the floor as her eyes began to get heavier. Eventually she passed out as slept with the stallion beside her throughout the day. As hours passed continuing to rest the mare began to have a dream, NightStrike was holding her close as a mysterious figure pulled them apart and Rosetta was locked up in chains. NightStrike was trying to reach her but he became farther and farther away. Then once he wasn't to be seen her father appeared as he scolded her, pushing her to the ground. "How DARE you disobey the vampire code, Rosetta. How DARE you bring dishonor to vampires everywhere! You are NO daughter of mine, not the one who shares a compassion and feelings for mortals, the one who HATES them, with no care or empathy towards them, that's who my daughter is." he said angry with steam blowing out from his nose as Rosetta began to turn mortal, her wings disappearing, as her fangs and pupils turning normal. 

 

This was now a nightmare, Rosetta was being disturbed, and made her uneasy. At this point it was half way through the day and she continued to twitch and move as she mumbled: "No...no, no, no, no, no!".

NightStrike immediately jumped up after he heard Rosetta mumble in a panicked way and when he felt her twitch. Looking around he concluded that there was no imminent threat around them and that it must have been something else. Looking to Rosetta however his face grimaced, apparently she was having a nightmare. And an especially cruel one too. Her little twitches and squeaks made him feel like he was dying inside because seeing the mare he loved so much in agony was not a thing he liked at all.

 

Carefully lying down next to her again he nudged her softly whispering comforting words in her ear. "Hey it will be all right Rosetta... it's just a nightmare. If you wake up you will see that it did not really happen. It's all just a bad dream.." He poked her softly in an effort to wake her up. He knew from experience that making a lot of noise would probably not wake her up, instead it would probably only bring her more panic. That's why he tried to wake her up gently.

The mare's eyes suddenly opened as she gasped quickly lifting her up her pupils constricted as she noticed NightStrike still beside her. She buried her head into NightSrike's chest, as she softly spoke. "N-NightStrike...y-you're still, here..." she said panting heavily from shock. Rosetta's ears picked up the sound of his heart, beating fast as he was just as surprised and startled as she was. The sound thumping noise echoed within the ear of the mare, it was soothing, very relaxing in way. She closed her eyes as she continued to listen as her body was less shaking and was at ease.

"Yep yes, I am still there Rosey don't worry." NightStrike whispered softly. "Nothing is going to happen to the both of us for now." He affectionately brushed her mane with his hoof

 

"That must have been a pretty scary nightmare you got there wasn't it?" He asked as blushing because of how close they were together and how she buried her head in his chest. "I've got nightmares of my own, though they mostly come haunting my thoughts during day, there's nothing we can do about them though except to face them." He continued as he gently stroked her wings.
