Reuel(Crystal Slave) 287 January 18, 2015 Share January 18, 2015 Hello again! Here is another song I've just completed, inspired by my favorite character from Equestria Girls, Sonata Dusk. I do hope you enjoy it, and please let me know your thoughts! Thanks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmUg-zD9O04 7 My Music Channel
Ponylectric Machine 11 January 20, 2015 Share January 20, 2015 Wow! I really like the melody, and the kick has a really nice thud to it! I think it would have benefitted from side chaining the kick to the organ on the drop. Side chain usually adds a nice bit of texture to a drop.

I think it would have benefitted from side chaining the kick to the organ on the drop. Side chain usually adds a nice bit of texture to a drop. Believe it or not, I had that synth sidechained during the chorus initially, but I took it off because for some reason it didn't sound right. Ah well! The drop was definitely the toughest part to make for me, since the mixing and sound design was very tricky. Thanks for the input, though, I'm pretty sure you're right. XD Yay! A song for me! Ponylectric Machine 11 January 20, 2015 Share January 20, 2015 No problem! Side chain can be a pretty tricky thing since it depends on both the input and the compressor for the final effect. If you ever have trouble with it, if you aren't already, try duplicating the kick, making the duplicated kick a ghost kick, side chaining the ghost kick to what you want the effect on instead of the real kick, and then tailoring the ghost kick lengths to make the best sounding side chain (that way you can have really short bursts of pumping without reverb or a long decay on the real kick getting in the way). Drops are my weakness too, I can never seem to get them close enough to how they sound in my head (sometimes my only option is to improvise)!
Reuel(Crystal Slave) 287 January 21, 2015 Author Share January 21, 2015 I never thought of doing it that way! Yeah, I've always had trouble trying to get fast sidechains because I can't get the audio to bounce back quickly enough without distortion. That technique should really help; I'll have to try it next time I use sidechaining. Thanks 1 My Music Channel

Reuel(Crystal Slave) 287 January 23, 2015 Author Share January 23, 2015 Were the instruments programmed or were they played on a keyboard? The answer is: a little bit of both. I composed all of the intro piano on a keyboard but then transferred it to FL Studio afterward (I use Kontakt's The Giant for most of my piano sounds). Most of the other synths I programmed and composed completely within my DAW (I use mainly Toxic Biohazard, Harmor and Sytrus for synths). 1 My Music Channel
The Professor...8D 823 January 23, 2015 Share January 23, 2015 I Like. I'm no musician. But I like the way it sounds. It's soothing and "dramatic?" at the same time. 1 Ask The Professor

I wanted the beginning to be calm and beautiful, with a bit of a climax and then a soft outro. Glad you liked it! Sounds pretty good to me Thanks! 1 My Music Channel
