Totally random idea

I mean how would she try to figure things out? Need some details.

Isn't it obvious? xD

Books. Research. There are so many things that I (or Twi) would need to know about changelings to be able to tackle this problem in an effective way.

What are the habits of changelings? Where would she find one, and how would she detect one? Could she devise some test? Is there a type of spell she could use to discover one? Do they leave energy signatures of some sort? Is there anypony in particular who would know more about changelings? Is there anypony in town who has been acting suspicious? You get the idea.

I think she should do all kinds of forensics and detective work, only telling somepony else when she think she can trust them.  Probably start with Pinkie, for her Pinkie sense and her ability to keep a secret with a Pinkie Promise.  As her search continues, she should get more and more desperate, but afraid to tell anypony.  She should start losing her mind, wrongfully accusing ponies, only for her to find out it was Spike the whole time, whom she never suspected for some reason.

Are you expecting all of that to be in a book...? You're really not giving any details.

Those are all good questions, so what does she DO about it?

But what if it was Pinkie??

Yeah, I would. In our world, most of this information would be readily available in a library... if changelings were real. I imagine there would be some very useful information in the Royal Canterlot Library... who knows, maybe Starswhirl the Bearded or some other character actually studied changelings?

Okaaaaay...

>What are a changeling's habits?

They impersonate ponies.

>Where would she find one?

In the changeling kingdom/hive/whatever.

>How would she detect one?

Good question.

>Could she devise some test?

Go right ahead.

>Some type of spell?

Well there's the one that blasts them with energy...

>Energy signatures?

No.

>Anypony who'd know more?

Cadence or Celestia, or maybe Luna.

>Anypony acting suspicious?

Why are you asking a book?

It could be Pinkie, but I'm saying having it be Spike at the end would be a good twist.  I'm thinking in terms of a story.

She would roleplay as Sherlock Holmes and try to locate the changeling.

All my life needed was a sense of someplace to go. I don't believe that one should devote his life to morbid self-attention. I believe that someone should become a person like other people.
