Lightning Dash 327 January 21, 2015 Share January 21, 2015 (edited) Okay, I was having a chat about this earlier so here I go. Could we have special member groups for the different Ponies/characters? like I was thinking, having a Derpy member group for the super dedicated Derpy fans, etc. But could it be done so that each group has it's own leader that can sort out the members who get added in/taken out? that way if this was done, no stress would be put on the staff and it can be done efficiently. I know I know, it doesn't exactly benefit the forums BUT, it does add to that user experience and this is something I'd really love to have. As for the one that are in charge of each group, that honor could go to the founder/who first mentioned the group for the respectful character. Like I said though, it might not benefit the forums itself but it does add to that user experience. We all know me and Koukatsu would be for Derpy and Jeric for Rarity (we know you secretly love her). In seriousness; it would give us more of a pleasure to being here, not that it's a pleasure anyway Edited January 21, 2015 by -Celestia-

Jeric 46,850 January 21, 2015 Share January 21, 2015 (we know you secretly love her). Not much of a secret <3 On the surface having a sub group dedicated to specific character fans would be a nice little addition if there was some form of a consistent visual cue to it. There are only two issues that would have prevented this from being implemented in the past Visual segregation. A point could be made that separate user groups based around the characters would promote a more 'cliquish' environment. That remains to be seen, but a similar suggestion on a Star Wars forum I managed died because of this fear. This happens naturally in many ways, but this fear may kill the concept as well. IPB. This holiday season we created a separate member group for Christmas Donors. It was a nightmare causing many issues with regular permission sets and access rights. Add groups for about 40+ characters and ... well ... Sweet Celestia Please No. IPS has never created a really robust and scalable UG system Personally, If these issues were resolvable - I like it - but would rather automate it rather than having a member be group leader.
Shanks 10,816 January 22, 2015 Share January 22, 2015 It seems like the fanclubs serve this purpose quite well and of course there is also the option of starting PM groups, I have been a member of this libertarian PM group on here for almost 2 years now and I am sure there are some others around here for other topics and interests as well as a matter of fact I have taken part in a few short term Applejack PM groups whenever certain things like March Madness or the World Cup pony poll tournaments come up. The great thing about PM groups is that the OP can in addition to inviting people also block people if necessary granting them a great deal of discretion.
