sweetolebob18 728 March 15, 2015 Share March 15, 2015 (edited) OK, I am not a history buff either, but I love to read & I've history books. After the Punic Wars with Carthage, the Roman Republic became a victim of its own success. The middle class (mainly small farmers) was wiped out because they couldn't compete w big plantations (made from captured lands). They flooded the cities w unemployed people w nothing to do but riot & so the govt had to provide "bread & circuses" to keep order & the expense was ruinous. Slave labor on plantations was necessary. In those days, the Romans had the custom that one of the main sources of slaves was those captured in battle. The Romans undertook a series of wars of conquest (expensive). The Republic was thus undermined. Ceasar himself was fascinating. As a youth, he was a wastrel until he was kidnapped by pirates & held for ransom (not uncommon hazard of travel by ship). He made friends w the pirates while waiting for the ransom to be paid. They let him go & asked "What will you do w your life?" He replied "Spend the time hunting you down & hanging you". They thought this was hilarious. (folklore) But, he did go to his father & get appointed head of some troops & did hunt down & kill at least some of them. (In those days, the nobility was supposed to spend some time in the army, so he could do that). He found he was good at being in charge & the rest, as they say, is history. But the point is, he always claimed to be a reformer. He turned down the title of king (IIRC, 2 times) & was killed by rivals who claimed they were worried about his ambitions. Napoleon started as an officer in the French army during the Reign of Terror. England was at war w France, trying to destroy the Revolutionary Council. He started defending France & ended by seizing control because the council fell into disorder because of infighting. I fear I have wandered a bit off topic. My short answer would be: You make it sound like Sombra was like that. Show that he was a good military leader who felt he was better at governing than the civilians. Check out the Hearth's Warming Eve episode for ideas on what conditions were like. Sombra was a Unicorn, so especially look at Princess Platinum. As to the editor. All I can suggest is : tell them how much it is. There have been some pretty long things published (300,000+ words) so you may get someone. If not, try getting someone for a few chapters & then get someone else for a few more etc. until the job is done Edited March 15, 2015 by sweetolebob18
