Tom Snyder 4,113 March 13, 2015 Author Share March 13, 2015 Well you're in luck, because it's only one chapter long I've read it a month ago, but yes, it wasn't that bad. I agree with the OP. I started out writing small fanfictions a few years ago, and I mean small. I wrote one that was like 7 lines long. It was more of an experiment in certain writing practices than attempting to relate a traditional plot. I have yet to get to writing a full fanfiction because there's always something going on to distract me, but I'm going to try to start working my way up to that point instead of diving headfirst into something I'm not yet capable of succeeding at. And i hope to see one of them someday. 1 //// My persona and OC: Candy Star //// Ask me anything: Ask Candy Star //// My Music //// //// My DA: (OC requests available) ////
KatonRyu 1,036 March 13, 2015 Share March 13, 2015 Starting small is generally good advice, but everyone learns in a different way and some people are more naturally gifted than others. Some of the best fanfics I've read were long, multi-chaptered ones written by first-time writers. Naturally people read these fics, see that they were written by 'newbies' and decide to try their own hand at it. As long as they learn from failure I don't think it will harm them much. Personally, I think that 'author' and 'fanfic writer' in this thread can be used interchangeably. I also see no problems with people hoping to write their own books one day starting out with fanfiction because it allows you to practice characterization in an existing dynamic, which I think will prove useful when you begin work on your first novel. But to each their own, of course.

But then there were good ones. So yes, some can write pretty good while others learn slowly 1 //// My persona and OC: Candy Star //// Ask me anything: Ask Candy Star //// My Music //// //// My DA: (OC requests available) ////

I don't even attempt to read stories with atrocious grammar and I agree with you that people whose grammar is exceptionally bad shouldn't be writing long fics to start out with, but these also seem to be the people who won't listen to any form of criticism, even when it's meant to help them. However, if a fic only contains a few mistakes, or a single persistent one that keeps cropping up, I can look past that if the story is well thought out.

I know, i gave this guy one hell of a judgement and he just explodes at the mouth. Really sad to see some don't take their work seriously enough. It really hurts when they start insulting me for trying to help them. Because of that, people thought i would explode on them too; but i'm not known for doing that.
