How much are they worth, exactly?

We've seen some inconsistencies, with one apple being 4 bits, a basket of apes being 7, a cherry being 2, and anything "expensive" costing a whole bag.

So, what do you think? Is this system just random an unaccounted for by the animators, or is there some method to their madness?

I guess greed would be one thing to account for, but i'm not sure if it would be.

Maybe it just shows the Equestrian economy has little to no regulation, so prices are constantly influx and determined by the buyer and seller like in more traditional economies. We had the haggling between Fluttershy and the merchant in "Putting Your Hoof Down", which reminds me of some bazaars in the Middle East.
