OOC thread: http://mlpforums.com/topic/127624-fallout-equestria-the-pilgrim-and-the-exile/

War . . . . War never changes . . . but neither does friendship.

When the magical land of Equestria was consumed in Hellfire and dark magic, Cloudsdale was the first to be hit with the megaspells. This opened the floodgate to what had been stirring within the pegasi community since long into the Great War, total isolationism from the surface. So the Grand Pegasus Enclave sealed up the sky to secure what remained of the pony population would endure, leaving the rest of Equestria below to its fate.

One brave pegasus though spoke out against the Enclave; Rainbow Dash, the Mare of the Ministry of Awesome and the Element of Loyalty. She would not abandon Equestria and for her action, was exiled below the clouds, but her example paved the way for others; the first of them her young protoge Scootaloo. These rebels were branded, "Dashites."

Isolation did have it's benefits though, as the Treeminders of the Harmony Oasis discovered. Protected deep within the Everfree Forest, the only monsters that found their way to them were those who no longer wished to be monsters. Such a sanctuary seemed almost a holy place and the Treeminders treated it as such, honing their bodies, minds, and souls to a higher calling.

What will happen, when the sons of both of these communities meet?

Vox trotted halfheartedly and half awake through the alien landscape of the wasteland. He had never, in his wildest dreams imagined it to look as revolting as it did. scanning the landscape with a lukewarm expression, he spots an ash tree, or what's left of it, and decides to take a load off, dropping the pitiful collection of belongings he scavenged out of an old market. As he lays under the leafless husk, he stares up into the acidic green skies, his mind bleak, completely devoid of thought.

The pegasus would not go long unmolested by the Wasteland. Two ghoul ponies came around the bend, hissing and growling, signaling their feral nature. They saw the lone pony and reacted only as their kind do, one growling hiss before both of them charge, intent on ripping the living creature apart.

Needless to say, this caught the Dashite off guard, he'd never seen such beasts before, disregarding all of his military conditioning, the defenseless pony scurried to the base of the tree, unsure of what to do. "This is it, this is what i deserve" he thought closing his eyes tightly shut.

Beneath his shut eyes, he didn't see his savior come galloping from the distance, pull out a scimitar and slice the two ghoul's heads off. He certainly heard their heads roll and bodies sag to the ground.

When he opened his eyes, he would see a cloaked figure with a hood over his head, sheathing his sword.

"Wha...."  he said in breathless exasperation, just thankful that he was granted a few more moments of life, but was unsure if this malevolent looking figure was here to do something even worse to the defenseless stallion. He stuttered in a cautious exhausted tone "Who are you....?". Trying to sound as neutral as possible.

The hooded figure turned to him and laughed.

"There is no need to fret, we've not even exchanged names yet. Ezekiel is that which I claim, might I know what is your name?" His voice was deep and rich with a strange accent in addition to the rhyming pattern.

The pegasus is perplexed at the odd fellow's poetic manner of speaking, and is at a lack of words. Vox clears his dry throat, desperate for some sort of beverage and gingerly mutters his name and rank "Senior Airman Vox, Pegasus Enclave.....formerly Pegasus Enclave"

Ezekiel had never heard of such a people, but then again, there's a lot about the Wasteland he didn't know.

"It's very good to meet you Air-man" Ezekiel sounded out the title, for it was indeed foreign to him. The stranger reaches up and pulls down his hood. Shaking his head, he reveals himself to be a dreadlocked Zebra, some beads hanging in his locks and with a friendly smile.

Vox was startled at this odd looking.....Pony? He wasn't sure what to make of this "Ezekiel" something else that didn't make sense to this isolated and propaganda fed ex-soldier. "That's uhh.....quite a mane you got there, and those beads, what're those supposed to mean?"

Ezekiel lit up.

"I'm glad you noticed so, getting it into this style is hard work you know?" He points to a few beads. "Each one is a level away from layman, in my training to become a full shaman." Ezekiel explains and simultaneously informs of his vocation.

Layman? shaman?, these terms were entirely new to Vox, as was Ezekiel's odd looking features. "What's a 'shaman'..?" Vox asked in a puzzled manner. "are you some kind of Earth Pony doctor?" "But more urgently, do you know where i can get something to drink...?" he asked, ashamed.

((OOC: Just saying, you do know what the term "layman" means right?))

"Oh of course!" Ezekiel reaches into his cloak and pulls out a water container. Not a canteen but a hollowed out gourde. He pops off the cork and gives it to the thirsty pony. "Drink." He simply pleaded.

Vox grabbed the odd looking container desperately and gulped down the water a bit too hastily, causing him to cough. "So who are you?" he said after clearing his throat. "Are you from around here? familiar to this place?" He still wasn't sure whether he was to trust this primitive looking being.

"This place is just as strange to me as it is to you, I am a wanderer as well, all of this is still new. However I can see you are in need of aid, we can go to the town from which I just came." Ezekiel offered the new pegasus.

What he said was true, Ezekiel had only been wondering for a few days.

The Pegasus thought for a moment, he did seem friendly enough, certainly better company than those flesh eating monsters that nearly ripped him to shreds. "I've got nothing else to do, nowhere else to go, i'm essentially purposeless, i've got nothing to lose", he thought to himself. "Sure, i uh, i suppose.." he said, still nervous.

Ezekiel shrugged.

"If, from me you wish to stray, I can point you in the direction and send you on your way. It seems to me you are in pretty bad shape. You can accept some help or by yourself, scrape." Ezekiel offered his hoof to the stranger. He smiled down on him.

  • 1 month later...

Trying to get his composure and cool back, Vox stood up. "Boy, i never got a proper eye full of this place until now, i never realized how bad it was..." the words lingered for a while. "But never mind that, there's a settlement around here you say? how do we get there? from which direction?"

Ezekiel pointed in the direction of whence he came.

"That way is the Junction of Dodge, they have supplies and there one could lodge. If we're going, we'd better start, we need to get there before dark."

Ezekiel started back to Dodge, picking up the cane he had dropped upon seeing the pony come under attack.

"Well, what're we waiting for!" he said, trying to mask uncertainty underneath excitement. "Let's head out". They headed in the direction of Dodge, not knowing what a town could look like in this Hell. "So what is Dodge Junction like, and where are you from?" He asked.

"It is as nice as Wasteland towns can be, but it does make me miss my home in the Everfree." Ezekiel said as he put his hood back up, walking with his staff, though seemingly not for support as he was youthful and in his prime.

The wind blew and dust battered the two bucks, the Wasteland echoing the gale mournfully.

"Everfree, what and where is that?" All of these names of wasteland locales alien too him. "What's with all those silly trinkets you have, and that staff, you clearly aren't crippled" The more Vox stared at the imposing mystery figure, the more questions he had to ask him.

"I can see you have many a query, I'm glad to have met a pony not quite so leery. We will have plenty of time to talk once we are safe, for the time being though we most focus and from this course not strafe." Ezekiel would normally be delighted to discuss his talismans and staff but two feral ghouls could mean more, the Wasteland had taught him that much in his brief time out.

Arriving in Dodge Junction, Vox couldn't say it looked as how he imagined it, considering he'd never been to ground level before. At this point he was in a daze, acting purely on immediate impulses, he didn't actually contemplate what he was going to do once he got to Dodge. "Hmm, what now?" he said aloud.

Ezekiel brought him to the inn.

"Back already? Those rad roaches too much for you?" The unicorn pony at the counter laughed as he was playing with a pre-war toy, a spring climbing down a makeshift shelf of books.

"I found this lost soul all alone, it wouldn't be right to leave him to roam."

"Annnnnnd?"

"And I'd like to rent the room again." The zebra sighed.

"That will be 40 caps."

"20."

"30."

"25."

"Deal!"

[barter: SUCESS]

The unicorn levitated the room key over to the Shaman.
