colt_following 169 May 3, 2015 Share May 3, 2015 I'm guessing this thread won't get crazy traction but I wanna put it out there anyway. It seems the MLP writing staff (show AND comics) has a strange attraction to the apparent humor of the word "flugelhorn". However the one time they showed a "flugelhorn", it was just a blue horn-like mix of shape. A flugelhorn looks like a sort of big trumpet and sounds like a cross between a trumpet and a french horn. This is just a descrepancy I take big note of because I guess they like the word because it sounds sorta silly, but for a guy like me who's seen and PLAYED flugelhorns and trumpet it's harder to stomach a butchery of musical terminology. :end rant here: Come join the Equestria Big Band project! Mr Underhill 219 May 3, 2015 Share May 3, 2015 It sounds even sillier when PP blasts out "Flugelhorn!" as she plays! Sure it's not musically accurate, but that's Equestria.. Signature by Jewel of Rarity
LittleMac 3,085 May 3, 2015 Share May 3, 2015 Wait, flugelhorns exist?! I thought it was just a funny word Flugelhorn Flugelhorn Flugelhorn It's stupid but it still makes me smile cx
Grumpy Enchantress 587 May 3, 2015 Share May 3, 2015 It's just a cartoon, dude. They drew it in a funny way to look funny.
TopQuark 409 May 3, 2015 Share May 3, 2015 Actually, if you look at the scene where "Pinkie wants a flugelhorn", they seem to mostly come in brass. Maybe the blue ones are more valuable? Signature by Me
sweetolebob18 728 May 7, 2015 Share May 7, 2015 The writers remind me of an old "Pogo" cartoon strip. Somebody (ICR who) was selling blindfolds as a reading aid on the grounds "That way, you don't have to pay it any more mind than the writer did." colt_following 169 May 8, 2015 Author Share May 8, 2015 ahhh, Pogo. I meant to read but never dug it too much (it was before my time!).... it seemed really influential Yup: flugelhorn trumpet ' Excuse the HUGE pictures, ehh. I'm nitpick in some areas, especially when musical instruments are brought in. Pinkie seems to be a musical multi-intrumental virtuoso!! Come join the Equestria Big Band project! Pinkie-Guy 564 May 15, 2015 Share May 15, 2015 At least a trombone on the show actually looks like a trombone.
colt_following 169 May 15, 2015 Author Share May 15, 2015 At least a trombone on the show actually looks like a trombone. Lol, yeah. Trombone is my first instrument, so that was nice to see! Someone on a brass forum brought up that the trombone is seen as just just a 'silly', sort of a gag instrument, though. I guess the visual aspect and glissy/slurry sound makes that true, and that's why they used it Come join the Equestria Big Band project! "A little glass of water, please..."
