gaming Can we agree that 'Riven' had the absolute best visuals of any game ever?

This was 1997? wow, that's just amazing. I've never really played any of the myst games (except for the first one where I just rage quitted because of how confusing it was), but I do remember watching my brothers play it.

'97?!?!?

This is better than some games I've seen TODAY!

Yup. Though, to be fair,  it's all pre-rendered graphics. Playing the game is like going through a slide show almost. What they managed to do, however, is implement full motion video seemlessly within those pre-rendered graphics.

My terminology may be way off there, so I hope I made sense. x3

You should definitely try giving them another go. The first 3 (which are the only ones that matter) are on steam I think.

They're noted for their extreme difficulty, but it's what makes them so good. Those 'AHA!' moments are priceless.

I may give them a try one day, but I've never really liked puzzle games very much.

Oh, I remember that game.

Depends on what you mean by "best visuals", but I agree they're very realistic (I wonder how they did that back in 199X).

Those games were pretty nice looking for the day, but I could never get into em.  It just didn't feel like enough of a game to me.  Just a slide show.  I had a friend who was obsessed with Riven, though.  It was his favorite game in the world.  He had a little rubber Rivenese dagger stamp that he would use to decorate everything he owned.

I could just sit back and look at those visuals for hours. They remind me of this one guy on the internet called Ryan Bliss who runs a site called Digital Blasphemy, which also started in 1997, coincidentally.
