Ninja(Pinkie)Midget 180 May 28, 2015 Share May 28, 2015 (edited) I had similar feelings when I first got hooked on the show. I remembered the MLP that my sister used to watch which was really bad and sometimes a little creepy. I was a bit perplexed at my interest in the show so I tried noting down the reasons I like it. It's simple, with good moral values that apply to everyone, and no underlying agenda. The characters are interesting, and well developed. The writing for the show is really good, voice acting is awesome. Some great memorable songs. An interesting world with a mythology that borrows from Greek mythology (which was always interesting to me). The animation is top notch. The pop-culture tie-ins that make you laugh (references to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and The Big Lebowski come to mind). It occurred to me that these are all of the things that make a good animated feature like Frozen, which is basically a princess story. Most people wouldn't blink if you told them you liked Frozen. It was awesome! There's just a built in stigma with MLP because of it's origins as a show that originally targeted a young girl audience and in past versions were really only good for that target demographic. This generation of MLP has set a higher bar for kids entertainment. It was Disney who first realized that when kids watch tv/movies, their parents are usually right there too. No kids sporting Frozen backpacks and shirts have watched Arrested Development, but there it was in Frozen, a reference to that show that had my wife giggling in the theatre. I like the show for it's quality in all areas. Sure, the term 'brony' has a certain amount of stigma that comes with it, but it doesn't change the fact that I like the show...a lot. So, I wear my various pony shirts whenever I want and if someone wants to point out that I like a show for little girls, I'll just ask them if they liked Frozen....another show mainly for little girls. No one has had anything bad to say about my pony shirts (though I will get some quizzical expressions sometimes). In fact I'll usually get some young kid (boys and girls alike) pointing to my shirt and smiling or pulling on mom or dad's arm to show them the cool pony shirt. I've had several adults ask me where I get my MLP shirts (Amazon, if you're wondering). Yeah, I guess liking a show like MLP FiM is a little weird. It may even be a little crazy, but I've decided to steer into the crazy skid and enjoy the ride Edited May 28, 2015 by Ninja(Pinkie)Midget 2 http://www.ninjamidget.com
InactiveHooves 256 May 28, 2015 Share May 28, 2015 I'll be honest. I don't consider myself a brony. It is an identity that's cool if you wear it and like it. Beside that I don't really care about it. What matters is you like the ponies and the show! The nsfw content. Is umm... there. And people who are having their escapism doesn't like being told what to draw. In general websites like tumblr are like the Wild West. No rules, no boundaries. Even I don't browse it openly because it is like a minefield. On Social Justice I am umm---- on the other side but it's always essential to keep a friendly and welcoming environment. Sometimes SJ people / feminists are too aggressive. You know playing on the attack and stuff. Live and let live is the best policy. Pony would recommend it. 1 Just call me Nori.

I can understand their aggression, since it is stressful to always be pushed down There are plenty that are more friendly and post educational...posts tho they do have their moments like any human where things get to be too much for them and they have a bad day so the vent Personally as a white woman I did not understand racism and denied it's existence for a long time and got frustrated on tumblr when my gf posted an angry post about white people (she is black) After I got me fumes out, we discussed it Turns out people daily threaten and yell the N word at her, and throw glass bottles and other painful items at her So that day she just hit her limit and vented From that day one I put time into researching the matter and she helped me find calm educational blogs To be honest, I became super angry when I started noticing these things in everyday life when I was newly exposed to it But that's not what this forum is about, so if you want me to find some nice blogs I'll be more than happy to They do get irritated being asked the same questions over and over again, so put them in faqs And don't get me wrong! I am all for expressing your interests! make all the smut/gore you want! just be courteous and respectful of others by doing what you can to ensure it is properly labeled and hidden so only people who want to see it, see it, and not people who don't That is the only issue I have with some of it

Tagging it would be essential. The bigger people know how to do it. There are "edgy" people who enjoy getting on the nerves of the others. Amateurs and fools! :okiedokielokie: Well if you don't push your agenda in other's face then they have no reason to be rude to you. I don't like people who chase after others. I respect everybody's safe place. The "don't like it don't look it up" thing is universal for all sides. 3 Just call me Nori.

The best way to make sure we like the same things, for example mlp and still be ourselves. 2 Just call me Nori.
Firedusk 37 May 28, 2015 Share May 28, 2015 Now that we've effectively covered bad stuff, let's reveal the good parts. First: The music is craze amaze. Songs I've heard from aviators, forestrain, decibelle, and many others that take an incredible amount of time to list off, make eye opening songs that make you feel good about yourselves and some may even help you through some situations. Second: The people. Every person that is discussing this with you is so you understand that you're not alone. The people that take the show for what it's meant to be and are willing to help you through your discomforts or insecurities or what have you. The people that are willing to unify this world for the better by spreading love and tolerance. The people that will stand by you and are willing to help you at a moments notice. We are about something that's bigger then I'll ever be. It's about honesty kindness laughter generosity and loyalty. These are, have been, and always will be the traits that make up the magic of friendship. I define a brony as an individual that watch the show and believe in their heart that the messages that are represented through the show, are correct in they're entirety, and at which point, the defining characteristics are put into an everyday practice. There are many more reasons, none that I can come up with at this moment, but they are there. So how bout it. Let's come up with more good reasons to be apart of the bronies.

These are, have been, and always will be the traits that make up the magic of friendship stahp it I agree tho, the core messages of the canon show are wonderful! And so are some of the fan comics I keep up with more reasons, hmmm how about willing to accept me despite my different beliefs and views respectful when I request certain content to be hidden under a spoiler Understanding when something has upset/hurt me Not feeling like I am invisible or ignored, ever (for here at least) How the value of friendship is understood so everyone is willing to be friendly and respectful to anyone
