Trine 665 May 29, 2015 Share May 29, 2015 (edited) I don't know if you people are familiar with this, but in anime mostly they tend to be lazy by animating the jaw moving when your face is infront, their mouth move but usually not their jaw. Its only when the character is shown to the side that they tend to animate it in anime. But MLP animate the jaw moving with the mouth aswell, and i guess its because they use a trick line to guideline it, with the thick cartoony line. Kinda nice ^^ Edited May 29, 2015 by Trine 3 http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/sorcerous-maximus-r8096
Prince Firemane 309 May 29, 2015 Share May 29, 2015 I think it's part of the flash animation, where each mouth movement is attached to a jaw movement. This is necessary in profile or quarter angle shots where the muzzle is defined and has to stretch to keep the mouth in place. I think the same programming that dictate that are applied to all angles. Anime was first made in an era where each frame of animation had to be drawn by hand and I believe that drawing a new chin placement was too time-consuming. In this age of computer animation, anime style has become so iconic that there are just some things that stay the same throughout the years.
Ziggy + Angel + Rain 11,304 May 29, 2015 Share May 29, 2015 That's an interesting thing to point out. In my days of slow mo-ing moments from MLP:FIM, I noticed a good many things. Frontal jaw movements were not one of those things. 2 "It uses the faculty of what you call imagination. But that does not mean making things up. Argumedies 1,748 May 29, 2015 Share May 29, 2015 (edited) Theres also a trick to the brain because if we look to a pony from a side angle it will show a very short muzzle and when the view switches to a front on view, our brains automatically adjust for its loss in the flash animation. So unless your intentionally looking for it, the flat add on of just a mouth movement goes unnoticed. Edited May 29, 2015 by Argumedies
