@@ForthEorl,

"I can probably manage this lot from here. Oh, and thanks for the help, mate. I'll come find you later, tell you how we're doing. I'll let you get back to those other ponies I saw you with earlier."

Aspen smiled to himself.  This pony really does take charge, which is awesome.  He wished he could do that...

"Nice job!  Thanks for doing this, It'll really help get things organized around here."

Aspen started to walk back to the tent.  The sun was much higher now than it had been, and today was another cloudless day.  The sun was extremely hot, and it seemed some fillies had decided o go play in the ocean.  Aspen smiled as he saw a group splashing through the water, laughing and tackling each other.  He was almost at the tent when-

"Hello, again...Aspen, isn't it?"

Aspen turned.  He was surprised.  "Sylvia Lace?  I thought you were still organizing the construction."

She nodded.  "you can just call me Sylvia.  I need to ask you to do something very important.  As you know, we've sent a few exploration teams around, but they haven't gotten very far.  We've had some Pegasi teams fly around a bit, but they can't fly very far without landing, and they can't see anything under the thick canopy of trees.  Therefore, we are planning on sending a very large group of ponies out to explore and map this part of the island.  And, we've decided on you as one of the ponies to join it."

Aspen was astounded.  "Me?  Why?  I have no exploring experience, and I was born in the city!  I have spent close to no time outdoors, and I don't even like trees."

Sylvia waited for Aspen to finish.  "You done?"

"Pretty much."

"For your information, didn't choose you.  If it were up to me, you'd stay here and do laundry like the sissy you are.  Unfortunately, we need Ocean Moon, as she's the best explorer we have.  She said that she wouldn't lead it unless there's somepony she knows on the journey with her.  You."

Aspen made a mental note to give Ocean a stern talking-to when he sees her again.

"And I have no choice?" he asked.

Sylvia shook her head.

He sighed.  "Fine, whatever.  How many days 'till we leave?"

"Days?" said Sylvia, "try hours.  Send-off in three."

"Three hours!?" shouted Aspen.

"Yep."
Aspen massaged his temple, something he remembered seeing his father doing when he was annoyed.  It didn't help.

"What should I bring?" he asked.

"Whatever you need," came the reply, "but don't pack too much.  You'll be carrying a lot of food and water."

"Oh, so pretty much I'm the pack mule."

"Hey, that's racist towards mules." said Sylvia, narrowing her eyebrows.  "But, that's actually pretty spot on."

"Anyway, good luck." she trotted off.

"You'd better give me extra meals when we get back!" shouted Aspen after her.  She pretended to not hear.

He stepped inside the tent, looking for stuff to pack.

"What should I pack?" he thought.

Blitz sighed. Oh, how she wanted to go back to the tent and not move heavy loads from the edge of the water to the edge of the jungle, with her tired out horn which was tired from using all that fire magic during the cooking earlier. But, she needed to make an impact...

"Seems our appointment will have to wait," Blitz said gloomily to Peregrine as Aspen and Sharp trotted away. "We'll do it at noon, even if a pack of tigers show up." She smiled wryly. "But I still need to take our breakfasts to the tent. Hopefully all the work isn't done by then."

She began trotting to the tent, five bowls of food behind her-- one for Aspen, one for Peregrine, one for her, one for Glider, and, of course, one for Socks.

@,

Sharp and the others were struggling to move a very heavy crate, which had become wedged between two trees.

"Bleedin' crate. What on earth's in it? Alright, take a break while I go and find some more ponies to help us with this."

They sauntered off, leaving Sharp alone. He started to head in the direction of the beach, until something caught his eye. Movement, down by a lake.

Hm, a source of fresh water. Could come in handy.

He moved towards the lake. As he got closer, he could see a couple of ponies, standing around by the shore.

"Hello? I was wondering if you could come help us. That is, if you appreciate hard labour. I'm Ever Sharp, by the way."

@,

"Yes, well we're having a bit of trouble shifting the supplies we took off the boats further inland. I though we may be able to manage with just a few ponies, but it seems we can't."

Sharp turned, and pointed in the direction of the crate.

"The crate's over there. If you could wait while I go gather the others, then we can finally get it moving. Thanks for agreeing so quickly."

Blitz entered the tent. Socks looked up at her and meowed, walking over to her and rubbing his head against her leg, purring. Blitz smiled to herself, levitating the five bowls down.

"You silly cat," she said, fondly, looking around for Glider. She felt a spike of worry when she saw Glider was not in there. The back of her mind began pestering every other part of her to go look for her, but duty called... she would look for Glider if she wasn't back after the moving-things ended.

"Alright Socks, one of these bowls are for you. You're not allowed the rest of them, though." Not that Socks would be interested. He was sniffing at the bowls in some disgust. Oh well, it had been worth a shot. She didn't like Socks eating meat all the time-- it disgusted her.

She trotted out and moved to the beach. She could see some moving going on from here, and noticed the pony-- Sharp-- from earlier. She got to the shore, mentally prepping her horn for the amount of heavy lifting she was soon to do.

"Oh, well, I guess I'll just... try and spruce up the tent with Glider?" Peregrine trotted alongside Blitz as they approached the tent. "So Glider tells me you were a teacher back in Equestria. Have you ever considered having foals of your own?"

Peregrine however left little time for an answer when she entered the tent, seeing that Glider had left. "Oh! I left a note telling her I'd bring breakfast!" With a hasty eating of her breakfast, Peregrine looked out to the camp, looking over to Blitz. "Well, you do your thing, I'll find Glider."

Setting out, Peregrine asked about after Glider, and eventually found her at the outskirts of the camp with... "Hey!" Peregrine called as she trotted over. "Small world. Spellbind! What're you doing with Glider here?"

Sharp arrived back at the beach, and found the workers lazing around.

"All right ponies, break's over."

They grumbled a bit, but started to head back to where they had left off. Sharp saw that one of the ponies he had seen with Aspen earlier was heading towards him.

"Come to help out? Ever Sharp." He offered a hoof, "We were just about to get going."

"Come to help out? Ever Sharp." He offered a hoof, "We were just about to get going."

Blitz lifted her own hoof and shook his. "Star Blitz. Call me Blitz. I would love to help. I can use my magic to lift, though I don't have very powerful levitation." And she got worn out of using magic easily... oh, well.

She glanced at some of the other ponies around that were going to help. This pony also seemed to be quite the leader. She would have to make sure to keep the name Ever Sharp in her mind.

"Shall I address you as 'sir,' then?" She asked, a little amused. He had taken quite the leader position, after all.

"Don't worry about that. Every little helps, so they say. I hardly use my magic at all, really, and not for stuff like this."

Sharp observed the rather... unique pony in front of him. A jagged scar across her eye, and a necklace adorned with gemstones. She seemed like a very interesting pony.

"Shall I address you as 'sir,' then?"

Sharp felt rather embarrassed. He grinned at her.

"I haven't been called 'sir' in years. Just call me Sharp. Shall we walk and talk? It's only a five minute trek to the crate."

She noticed him examining her. She took the chance to examine him as well. He definitely seemed like he had been a military-like pony even before the boat, with the sideburns and the scar along his left flank, which she couldn't examine well from this angle, but looked tough all the same. He seemed all around a tough pony. He still seemed kind enough, however.

"I haven't been called 'sir' in years. Just call me Sharp. Shall we walk and talk? It's only a five minute trek to the crate."

So, he had been a military pony. Or at least a leader of some sort. "Alright, then, Sharp. Let's get to know each other a bit," she said, smiling. She glanced at the pegasus with a sword as her cutie mark. Probably also helping. This one also looked like a fighter. She thought she had seen this pegasus on the small boat following the main boats.

"Alright, then, Sharp. Let's get to know each other a bit,"

Sharp was uncomfortable speaking about his past, but this mare seemed friendly enough, so he decided to divulge a bit of information.

"Suppose I'll start. I was born in Canterlot. Never knew my mother, and my father was a piss-poor excuse for a merchant. But it was an easy enough life. Far easier than some ponies I met. At seventeen, my father died on me and I joined the army as a private. Six years after, I earned my commission. I left as a captain, when I was twenty-nine. I lived on the streets for a year. Then an old major I knew heard about this venture, and recommended me to it. Two and a half years later, here we are."

They had caught up with the others now.

"What about you? I'm not trying to intrude, but why did you come here?"

He seemed a little self-conscious about sharing the information... but he seemed awfully open to a stranger like her, Blitz mused. It seemed every pony that came on the boat were just... good ponies. She nodded, wondering why he had left his post as captain, but decided not to press. She would find out eventually.

"What about you? Why did you come here?"

They had caught up to the others, which was a good excuse not to divulge. She was beginning to worry he might ask about the scar-- and she didn't like lying to strangers. She always felt that a pony could tell when some-pony was lying to them.

"I was a teacher, actually," she said, smiling, "a professor of magic in Celestia's Academy in Canterlot. I came... well, I suppose I came for a change of scenery. I wanted a new life." A luckier life. A life where I have a chance. Not like last time, where every-pony else decided what I was good at.

"a professor of magic in Celestia's Academy in Canterlot. I came... well, I suppose I came for a change of scenery. I wanted a new life."

"As good a reason as any, without a doubt." he stopped, and pointed in front of them. "Ah! There's the crate. Now you can see why we can't move it."

The large crate, about two yards both high and wide, had been wedged between two trees, at a jaunted angle. One tree had large parts gouged out the trunk where previous attempts had failed to move the dead weight, and the weathered and hardened wood had scratched the weakened tree. There were several ropes tied around the crate.

"If you would excuse me for a moment?" He said to Blitz.

"Right then, everypony, here's what we're going to do. Unicorns who don't want to push will use their magic to hold back the damaged tree. Pegasi will take those ropes, and try to lift the crate as much as they can. Everypony else will push the crate. Understand?"

General nods of agreement and the odd 'yes' was the reply.

"Good. Let's get in position. When I shout 'heave' we all try, ok?"

He spoke quietly to Blitz.

"Here comes the fun part."

They all moved to their positions.

"HEAVE!"

(Completely forgot to add that part.)

@@Littlecandylulu903, @@Ochre_Dust,

"Oh! Hi, Peregrine." Glider said as the other pegasus approached them. "We were trying to figure out what these tracks were." She blinked as Peregrine seemed to recognize Spellbind.

"You two know each other?" She asked curiously. "From where?" Perhaps Spellbind had been one of Peregrine's clients, or something. She abruptly realized why Peregrine must have been looking for her.

"Oh, no! Is breakfast ready?" She asked worriedly. "I hope I didn't keep you guys waiting!"

She was impressed. He'd obviously thought about this. She nodded along with some of the other ponies, smiling. This pony had definitely been a captain, alright.

"Here comes the fun part."

She smirked at him. "Well, knowing a pony that thinks heavy lifting is fun is sure a first." She murmured, lowering her head, pointing her horn at the crate.

The amount of strain the crate was under was immense. Timbers creaked, Ropes screeched as they were drawn taut against the wood. The tree started to make worrying snapping noises, and large splinters started to ping off of it. But the crate started to lift. One inch. Two inches. Half a foot. With a juddering crash, the crate slipped from between the trees. The ponies pushing were catapulted forward, landing in the soft yet slightly crushed undergrowth. The crate came to rest a couple feet behind the two trees. But one tree was damaged beyond repair; it was nearly snapped in two.

"I said *pant* that it would be fun."

He laughed, and rose to his hooves. Then he helped another pony up.

"All right then, nobody told you lot to stop working. We've still got to move this over there. That's still thirty yards, at the very least."

Sharp noticed one of the panels had slipped loose. Peering inside, he felt life was not worth living anymore.

"Blitz, come look at this."

Fine bloody china, likely made in the great city of Neighjing. All that effort.

"I need to speak with whoever chose what to bring with us on those damned great ships."

Blitz had been using her magic. Holy buck, it was heavy! She was panting just attempting to move it. She stumbled as the crate fell back to the ground, snapping a tree, and all the lifters stumbled as well. She panted, resting for a moment.

Sharp noticed one of the panels had slipped loose. Peering inside, he felt life was not living anymore. "Blitz, come look at this."

Blitz noticed at the same time. She trotted over as he requested. She closed her eyes.

"Ridiculous," she muttered. "Who would bring china this nice on a boat? It was obviously going to break at some point..." she shook her head.

"Who would bring china this nice on a boat? It was obviously going to break at some point..."

Sharp chuckled. then burst out laughing.

"Oh, bloody hell! All that effort, and us dislodging it has broken it all!"

Sharp pulled a cracked plate from the crate.

"Useless!"

he reached further into the box. His voice echoed in the confined space.

"There's even teapots in here! And I bet we don't even have any tea!"

Realizing that everypony was probably looking at him like he had gone insane, he withdrew from the crate, and cleared his throat.

"We'll leave this one here, go for a lunch break. And no shortcuts next time, Shield."

An earth pony in the crowd shrank back, trying not to be seen.

@@ForthEorl,

Blitz smiled slightly. "It's alright. You know, we might be able to use this sort of thing for decoration in the future, now it's all broken." She was sniffing at some dishes interestedly. She honestly didn't feel the loss that badly. It had been hard, but at least they hadn't moved it all the way. Then she would have been pissed.

She looked at the sky. It was noon, judging by the sun. She felt rather guilty about Peregrine, but hopefully she was busy befriending Glider. Luckily, because cooks were only supposed to cook two meals, she could go back to the tent and eat, and apologize to Peregrine if she was there that they would have to do the treatment that evening, when most of the moving was done.

"I'll be back soon," she told Sharp. "Just going to eat my breakfast. Lunch, now. If you'd like, you can come-- I don't think my cat ate his bowl."

"I'll make sure this lot know absolutely what they're doing first. Can't have a repeat of what happened here, after all. I'll come find you later. It's been a pleasure to meet you, Star Blitz."

"The same," Blitz said, smiling. "I'll be back. Thank you for taking charge of this!" There was no way she could keep using her magic when she was this hungry, though.

It took her almost ten minutes to walk back to the tent. When she entered, she found Socks sleeping. He hadn't touched the food, as she had suspected.

"Wake up, lazy-bones," she said, sitting down and levitating the bowl up to her mouth. Her horn complained at it's overuse.

Socks stirred and made a whiny meow, rolling over on his back and staring up at her. She finished her breakfast quickly. Boy, she was hungry. She considered for a moment, then ate Socks', as well.

She didn't see Peregrine or Glider. She hoped Peregrine had found Glider. She levitated the pen that had been used earlier and wrote on the now-very scribbled on note in cramped handwriting, "Will be back soon, helping with moving."

She decided she might as well take the dishes back to the cooking station. Saying a fond farewell to her cat, who promptly went back to sleep, she left and went towards the station, which took another five minutes or so to drop them off in the makeshift sink-- a bucket, which was filled with water when some-pony was washing the dishes. She decided when she was done with the moving of heavy objects, she would go to the river that had been found (which she knew about through one of the cooks) and get some water, which they kept running out of.

She began taking the ten-minute walk to get back to the beach, feeling much better, and much less hungry.

All Aspen he decided to bring for his unwanted expedition was some paper and ink, as he needed plenty of space for food.  As he was walking towards Ocean Moon's tent, he saw Blitz.

"Hey!  Blitz!" Aspen trotted over to her.  "I have something really important to tell you.  So, for some reason, I've been chosen to go on some lookout mission, and I won't be back for a while, maybe a few weeks.  I was just letting you know, so you can tell the others.  I really appreciate you letting me stay in your tent for the past night."  he smiled, bowing his head slightly.

"When I get back, I'm sure I'll have stories to tell."
