Strong saw it lunge, he yelled out in a battle cry and charged, meeting the beast halfway, and aiming a hard headbut to its chest.

Oof, this one packs a punch! It's breath is almost lost, but It will prevail, as it usually does when hunting. However, It will try to be careful with this one, as It would not like to be wounded. It would make for a very embarrassing situation if It got hurt on it's hunting trip.

 

The beast swiped at Strong, it's claws gleaming in the light.

Strong tried to jump back as the beast swiped, but it still raked across his shoulder, blood now flowed from the wound. He yelled out, but stared the beast down enraged. This time when he charged, he aimed a mighty buck at it's side.

Blood..... sweet blood....

 

The beast was distracted by the red liquid on Strong's shoulder, and failed to notice the kick until it was too late.

As the beast staggered, Strong took this chance to jump onto the creatures back, ignoring the pain in his shoulder as he wrapped his forelegs around its neck and began to squeeze.

AAGH!! Insolent pony!! It will not stand for this!!!

 

The beast began to thrash about, trying its best to knock Strong off.

This creature was strong, he had to admit, but he wasn't about to let this thing win, he gripped even tighter, hoping to cut off the creatures air supply.

The beast continued to thrash, and began to hit it's neck against the ground.

 

 

GET OFF OF IT!! GET OFF OF IT AND DIE!!!!

Strong saw the window of opportunity, as the creature slammed it's neck on the ground, he angled his grip, and as the creature went down, he twisted the creatures neck with all his might.

GAH!!! This one is tough! But it will not succumb!!

 

 

As Strong twisted, the beast leaned with it, rolling onto its back, and at the same time, Strong.

"Oof!!" went Strong as the creature rolled on top of him, this thing was smart, he bad to admit. It was rather heavy too, knocking the breath out of him as he lost his grip.

The beast continued it's roll, landing back on it's feet.

 

It has you now, stupid pony!!

 

The beasts tail whipped around, pinning Strong as he lay, breathless.

Strong gasped for breath as he struggled under the creatures tail, trying in vain to hit it with his forelegs. <No... I... I can't... I promised her... I'd be there... always>

Yes, time to die, pony, time to d-----

 

*SHUNK*

 

The beast lurched and growled slightly, a sort of grimace on its face. It staggered slightly, turned it's head, and fell to the ground, causing a slight tremor.

 

A rock stuck out of the back of it's neck, blood slowly flowing from around it.

 

Above the beast, hovering, was Ali. Her eyes were wide with terror, and, besides her wings, was completely still.

Strong was surprised by what happened, he quickly scrambled away from the dead creature as he looked up at Ali, he limped over to her, his shoulder stinging and the wound on his head had reopened, but he didn't care.

Ali continued to hover in the air.

 

"I....I..."

 

She swallowed, looked at strong, and then rushed to embrace him, her arms squeezing his form.

 

"I'm sorry I couldn't get here sooner."

Strong was silent as he embraced her, "Its ok, it's ok... everything is alright..." he told her soothingly as he gently stroked her mane.

Ali began to sob silently, as Strong held her.

 

She tightened the hold, not saying a word.

Strong held her, gently rocking side to side as he stroked her mane. He bent down and kissed the top of her head, "Thank you" he told her.

After a while, Ali looked up into Strong's eyes, with tears receding in her own.

 

"Let's go, before another one of these things comes along." She said quietly.

"Sounds good" Strong said with a smile, getting up. They both headed off once again, now in search of a way to cross the river.

Strong sprinted as fast as he could from the beast, not looking back. He and Ali eventually burst through the tree line, coming into a clearing. There was a large river in their path however, Strong took a deep breath and turned around, taking a fighting stance as he waited for the beast to appear.

Ali looked up and down the river, in search of a place to wade across. Neither direction looked promising, so she began to silently measure the distance to the other side.

Strong looked down into the deep river, he was usually a string swimmer but with a slashed shoulder, he doubted he'd get far. "Any ideas?" he asked.
