The sun was shining bright above the small town of Umakawa. The streets were bustling with hard-working citizens, all of them minding their own business.

Recently, a new ryokan was opened in the town. Attracted by soft tatami and tasty meals, travelers and townsfolk gathered there. Everypony was sitting on the ground by their tables, when a stallion in an expensive-looking yukata burst in. His bald forehead was sweaty from the summer heat and he seemed to have been out under the sun for hours. Even so, he wasn't looking for refreshments, he was frantically searching for ponies who'd do a dangerous job for him. He offered huge amounts of money as payment, it was not surprising that a small group gathered around him.

 

Onaka's stomach grumbled, as she counted the bits she had left. It wasn't much, barely enough for a small bowl of rice. As she was about to order, a stallion burst into the ryokan. He started talking quickly, in a hoarse voice:

"Everypony! There is an urgent job I need a brave team to do. I of course pay you well, come here if you are interested, I can tell you the details."

Onaka, hearing 'pay you well' decided to inquire about the job. She knew she wasn't what you'd call a brave pony, but she needed the money badly. She collected all of her courage, and walked up to the stallion.

Blazedtime was sitting and eating his rice. Man the locals sure know how to make rice! This is great! Blaze then remembered why he was here "Oh right i need to find a job, and earn some money. Were do i find work i wonder..." Suddenly a stallion burst in. *He looked really really tired, but that wasn't the thing that attracted Blaze. It was the money part Looks like i found my self a job Said Blaze and got up to the man

Earlier that day in Umakawa, a wild pack of random diamond dogs are seen running through the streets and heading for the hills, yipping in pain and covering their partially burned butts. "Next time, maybe you'll think twice about disgracing somepony else's land." A pony in samurai armor proudly states before the crowd of towns ponies cheer for their brave protector. He humbly bows and departs.

 

It isn't long before the samurai finds the ryokan. As he takes off his horse shoes at the entrance, he is surprised when he isn't welcomed with the typical 'Irasshaimase'. However, before he can ask for service, a pony bursts in asking for help. Kind of leaves him speechless, but for Samurai Equine, it's just another average day.

(I'm going to speak in 1st person from Aerith POV)

 

I was eating my rice with my boyfriend Ace right next to me also eating the delicious Japonese rice when we saw a bunch of Diamond Dogs running out of the street. "Huh."

 

Then a stallion came running into the establishment, wanting help. Ace of course got right up and I followed him over.

Onaka noticed that there was a small group of ponies already gathered around the stallion. She didn't need to ask him any questions, for when he saw that there were no more ponies walking towards him, he started explaining what the job was about:

"I am Kane Hidzume, you probably heard my name before. As well as my daughter's, Midori Hizdume's. You probably do know that she is a beautiful and well-mannered young mare, the pride of my family. She was kidnapped yesterday evening. Me and my wife don't know where she is, but we fear she was taken into the mountains. I want you to find her, and bring her back to me. I will give you supplies with your travel, it is all prepared. Please, if you are brave enough to face the dangers, start looking for her before it's too late. If you're successful, I'll give you anything you wish for." He seemed desperate for help, even small drops of tears could be seen in the corner of his eyes.

Blaze listened while the stallion began to plead desperatly for help. Alright, now he didn't really care for the money as much. Blaze drew his blade, the same blade that he used in the guard. Ponies with sharp eyes could easily spot that he was a guard of some sort, because of his build, and blade. "I"ll help you out my friend, infact i'll start right no" Said Blaze with a determined look in his eye

Amber Rose sat in the corner  sipping his hot tea and observing the crowd, with a deep sigh he thought Which one, which one, so many choices, so much morality to get in the way... He sighed again having chosen his target out of necessity when he was interrupted by a desperate plea for help. 

Intrigued to say the least Amber slinked over to the crowd to listen Well perhaps some food will show its head, not to mention I got get some interesting research done. For the most part he remained silent but when he saw ponies getting excited and almost a bit rowdy he cleared his throat. 

"Ahem, if I may kind sir, it would seem you have many ponies who would wish to help but if this is going to be successful then we are going to need a search party and a leader for said search party." he bowed slightly to the distressed pony "Alright listen up, whose going on this escapade?"

"If this party needs a leader, then I volunteer. As a samurai, I have done battles all across these great lands of Japon. I have traveled by foot to many different regions and prefectures, learning to find my way even through unmarked terrain! I fear this challenge may not be for any pony lacking in confidence and experience." Samurai Equine explains.

 

He approaches Kane. "Before any of us take the journey, is there anything more you can tell us? Did you get a good look at the captors? Did they leave a ransome or any demands?"

"If this party needs a leader, then I volunteer. As a samurai, I have done battles all across these great lands of Japon. I have traveled by foot to many different regions and prefectures, learning to find my way even through unmarked terrain! I fear this challenge may not be for any pony lacking in confidence and experience." Samurai Equine explains.

 

He approaches Kane. "Before any of us take the journey, is there anything more you can tell us? Did you get a good look at the captors? Did they leave a ransome or any demands?"

He smiled "Well hold on now, a leader needs to more then a good leader. Perhaps a vote from those going?" he smiled politely and waited for a response I got to watch out for that one, strong, confident, has magic.... great, the last thing I need is competition. Now hold on old boy maybe it won't be so bad

Kane nodded at Samurai Equine's question.

"Yes, I can tell they are the men of Karai Kare, another pony you may know. We are rivals, you see. Other than causing me trouble, I don't know his motives. He didn't contact me with demands so far." He explained, looking rather downcast. "I'd be happier not knowing her is the one behind this." He added, shaking his head.

"Sir if it were to come down to it, what do we have to bargin with. I'm not against using force but, this is a life we are dealing with, I would like to know what we have to use to entice these ponies to let your daughter go. I would assume everything you own yes?... May we have something to take with us to show these criminals that you are serious, and perhaps we can begin to bargin with them."

Samurai Equine takes mental note of what Kane says, but Amber Rose's response gets under his skin. "Ransom or not, there's no use trying to please her captors. In a hostage situation, if you give in to the captors demands, they'll just continue asking for more. They'll never be satisfied. They won't give up the hostage as long as it gives them a bargaining advantage. However, if they think holding on to the hostage is pointless, they may kill her. The only plan we should be focusing on is a rescue plan. I think the best course of action right now is to go out to the mountains and do some recon. Scope out the area and gather any intel we can. If her kidnappers issue a ransom, the only thing they should get is false promises and anything that delays them."

"What do you think I was asking for Sir? We want to sound legitimate and willing to play their game, thus giving us the tactical advantage of surprise. But if we go with nothing to appease them then they will just see us as ponies going to kill them and will definitely threaten her life. We need just as much trickery as we need brute strength for this."

"Please, good stallions, do not argue! I do have something Kare would need, but if you do use it as payment for my daughter, you must get it back. It is an ancient statuette of a fisherman. Seems like something ordinary, but it is said to give it's owner great power, it mustn't get in the wrong hooves." Kane said "Anypony who is willing to join the search party, please follow me. At my home, I will give you maps, weapons and the statuette."

He then turned around, and walked out of the ryokan, glancing back now and again, to see how many followed him.

"And you gotta help us!" said Ace, pointing at the crowd of ponies.

Blaze not really caring about who will be the leader of this group followed the guy who needed help. He saw these two other ponies who didn't seem like the type to argue over things like that, decided to try and talk to them "Hello there! My name is Blazedtime, what about you two?" Asked Blaze

He sighed and followed the Stallion not quite sure what to make of his party yet. Well perhaps if all else fails... I will get some lunch out of the deal... I'm starving right now... He silently hated himself and his urges as he walked, wondering who woul d be the next poor unfortunate soul

Blaze not really caring about who will be the leader of this group followed the guy who needed help. He saw these two other ponies who didn't seem like the type to argue over things like that, decided to try and talk to them "Hello there! My name is Blazedtime, what about you two?" Asked Blaze

"Ace!" Ace said and he took a bow. He flew up and did some loop the loops before he stayed hovering in the air with his arms stuck out. "Nice to meet ya, Blaze!"

 

"Aerith," said Aerith in a not so over the top manner. "Hello there, Blaze. I take it you're part of this as well?"

Onaka trailed behind the small group in silence. She really didn't want to risk anything, but she was hungry, and she did search for jobs here before, not finding anything. She sighed, as she continued walking, until the rich stallion reached his home.

 

Kane opened the front door to her home, and invited the ponies inside. "Please, follow me." He said, as he led them across his countless corridors to the guest room.

He followed "If I may sir, how much power does this enemy of yours have?... And I hate to seem shallow but what is our reward? I know you said you would give anything but I do not wish to rob you blind, what would you think is a fair deal here?"  he feel the love oozing off this pony for his daughter. He couldn't help but lick his lips

"I don't need a reward," Ace told Kane with a beaming smile. "As long as we can reunite you and your daughter, that's-"
 

He stopped when Aerith nudged him and gave him a look of "I'll do all the talking here."

 

She smiled sweetly at Kane. "I agree with Amber. What reward can be offered to us?"

"The enemy, unfortunately, is strong. Kare has some amazing masters at his service, I don't think you can defeat them in a face-to-face combat, but you may be able to trick them. About the reward, I don't know what is important for whom, but I was thinking about a good deal of money, at least thousand gold coins for each pony taking part in the search. And of course, I will treat you all to a rich dinner here, at my home." He said, shuffling some papers on a desk. He was looking for the maps of the surrounding area. "Oh, and you may keep the weapons you take for the search, or ask for almost anything else as well." He added quickly, hoping the reward sounded reasonable to the ponies.

 

Hearing the word dinner, it was decided for Onaka. She needed food, and not only was the money a small amount, she could finally have a good meal, something other than rice.

"You are most reasonable sir." Its too bad your food does nothing for me... it always looks so good... "Sir... this may sound bizarre but did this enemy of yours have any interests in your daughter?... I actually may be able to use this to great advantage" he smiled

Samurai follows Kane to his home, trailing behind most of the party. He does notice Onaka, but he doesn't make a big deal about it.

 

Once there, Amber just keeps finding more ways to be creepy. It's enough to make Samurai shiver. "If we weren't united on a common quest, I'd have to teach him some manners..." Samurai thinks to himself. Still, he listens more about the statuette and everything. He smirks about the face-to-face comment. "I'll be the judge of that." For now, Samurai decides to show no interest in rewards. He doesn't speak against it either, he just chooses to be quiet about it.

"It would be terrible to even think Kare would, uh, have an interest in my daughter, but it is very much possible. I think I can see how that could be an advantage, but it would also be one more reason for you all to hurry up." Kane said, looking really worried. "Now I have a question. What weapon is each of you best with? I'll ask a servant to get it for you."
