Prince Firemane 309 July 30, 2015 Share July 30, 2015 (edited) What if Celestia doesn't raise the sun at all? What if a long time ago she was like, "Hey everypony, I totally have magic powers. Look, I will raise the sun." uses her knowledge of astronomy to know the time of sun rise. "Ta da! Now worship me as your princess!" An interesting idea, but remember when Celestia and Luna were captured by the plunder vines in Princess Twilight Sparkle, the Sun and the Moon hovered stationary in the sky without their influence, splitting into half day and half night. Not to mention that in Twilight's Kingdom, Twilight herself lowered the Moon and raised the Sun, so they are definitely controlled by magic. Unlikeable Pony 2,698 July 31, 2015 Share July 31, 2015 I maintain that the rest of the mane six will become Alicorns by the end of the series. I know, bronies are gonna flip their shit because every little change ever since season 2 is horrible. While making the mane six Alicorns would probably not be a good idea, it would probably be much better received if the writers actually answered some questions about Alicorn lore for once instead of just dropping in random bits of new and useless information. While I would LIKE to see all of the mane six as alicorns, I pretty much view that as utterly impossible at this point; given how the show's been progressing, they seem to be setting the other 5 fairly squarely in a firm spot for "where they are" in the world. Back in Season 1 or 2 I could see this, but since things have continued on for so long without any real development for the other 5 in where they want to go in the world, I think them being made alicorns isn't planned, as they'd (the staff) would be trying to indicate progress towards such a change. I really don't think they'd be stupid enough to make any more of the characters alicorns. I have no doubt they realize the potential backlash, and the loss of business would likely be more than the gain. As far as I'm concerned, their internet fanbase brings a lot more business than the intended demographic. Doing something like that, unless it SERIOUSLY adds to the plot like twilight did, would anger people, and I'm sure they see that. I think you may be overestimating things here, I think it would have a neutral effect with bronies, as there are a good number of bronies who would be fine with the mane six becoming alicorns, and the target audience would probably be "okay" with it. Besides, the power of bronies has been dropping Proportionally at a steady rate compared to how many little girl fans the show has.
MattyM12 34 September 21, 2015 Share September 21, 2015 (edited) It depends on the OC itself, if you make a Alicorn OC fine more power to ya but the least you can do is (1) if he/she isn't genetically born as an Alicorn explain how he/she did become one, or (2) if he/she is genetically born an Alicorn give him/her some personality. An example is my OC Symmetry (the pony you can see on the profile) he is a hybrid between a Pegasus and a Unicorn, he has Pegasus wings but not a Unicorn horn yet can still use his Unicorn based abilities, now this make his childhood (or is it foalhood?) a living hell for him, peers bullying him, calling him a freak for his abilities, he had little to no friends making him shy, and in his adulthood he believes he's a monster and thinks these abilities are nothing more then a curse. To me being a character isn't based on how OP they are, it's how the writer, actor etcetera expresses them, like Superman or Captain America it ain't about whether or not they win a fight, but more of if it's the right thing to do, so yeah Edited September 21, 2015 by MattyM12
UnknownFry 169 September 22, 2015 Share September 22, 2015 I think they are overrated by the fandom through various head canons and some people expect too much out of them, but in show and in the lore they are more or less handled appropriate enough while having limits. On the other hand some people some tend to demean them just because they tend to get pushed off to the side while ignoring some of their more subtle roles. Frankly it would be great if the show did more with some of these alicorns to help do away with some of these potential misconceptions while expanding the lore. In short the answer to the initial question is both yes and no.
Unlikeable Pony 2,698 September 22, 2015 Share September 22, 2015 Its like how people like super saiyans or bigger digevolutions in digimon. They're big and flashy and represent something new, and they let new toys be sold.comparatively there's no reason they're that important, as for example you could always just have a character get that powerful in DBZ without being a super saiyan, but its flashier and that's all that counts. Windseeker 546 September 23, 2015 Share September 23, 2015 (edited) Alicorns seem to exhibit both overrated and underrated characteristics from a sociological standpoint. For example, you have the bronies who love them and make original characters from them, and then you have the bronies who hate the ever living hell out of said OCs. *cough*mudponysupremacists*cough* Excuse me!
