visual art Project Ashbad -- My pixel art over time

Since I've been trying like crazy to improve my pixel art skills over time, I thought that about 3 years into that effort I would start a compilation of everything pixel-arty I've drawn from when I was 11, until now (aged 16). Right now I look back on my old stuff and laugh, since while it's good for a beginner, there are an incredible amount of flaws. Here are two comparisons between before and after, just a sample. I have about 50 different ones I'm making, likely not in a quick little MS paint thing like these. Most of the [NOW] comparisons are either at most 6 months old, or I make them on the spot to see how better I can do them in a shorter amount of time. For example, the [NOW] Isometric map on the right I kind of just mocked up from scratch in 15 minutes earlier this afternoon, and it puts the other one to shame.

 

 

I plan when I'm 20 to look back on these comparisons, laugh, and say how horrible my pixel are was when I was 16. Until then, I feel content

 

I'm thinking of sharing the full final result here, since the change over time (especially when you see what I made when I was 12 ) is pretty cool to see, or at least for me.

Yessir! I just quickly blotted down an isometric cube for reference, drew some grass blades and shaded them a bit, drew some rocky little blotches of pastel-brown and shaded in semi-elliptic form, drooped the grass down, copied and made a second set with the top having a dark green border, and then just plopped them all over the place to make a 5x5 little sample map.

Thanks all! I'm actually going back and improving upon that 15 minute isometric sketch up, to make the grass look more realistic and add transition tiles.

 

Can you do this for sat a tile set? Like a pony themed tile set?

 

Was considering it, I'm trying to draw a few isometric ponies to fit within a single tile, and only 3 subunits high

If you're using it for that, you'll need to script it out, since tiling with these requires a diagonal-majored, layered stacker, not the normal type that can be done row-majored in normal layering. I know RPG maker uses Ruby as it's scripting language, and I'm quite efficient with Ruby so maybe I can make a script that goes along with these that render a map

Ah, well thanks for the bro-ness compliment I've been working on the tiles even more, I have about 20 done, working on an animated, translucent tile set so I can mock up a large map using these.
